"That's the Alex I know - putting prejudice before friendship, jealousy before loyalty, hatred before all! You abandoned a cause you'd sworn to protect!"
She took an attack stance, ready for the attack she knew was coming.

"Alex!" Alexander couldn't remember the last time he'd called Alex by his actual name before, either, "I know I'm not setting a good example, but we need to try to keep a bit calmer than this."
He narrowed his eyes at Miri. "If you'd ask the kingdom of darkness, they'd tell you they were the enemies to the Santo-Luce kingdom - my kingdom indeed, miss. But if you were to ask me, my country has no enemies, only people who don't know how to deal with their problems properly. My father ran that country through never picking a fight with the others as he said it never did any good to start a war. As much as that man and I never got along I can't help but follow that man's ruling strategies as they seem to be the only ones that actually make any sense in this crazy, messed up world."
He gripped his staff tighter and stared at Miri coldly.
"Last chance at this. We're not fighting you, but you can't hold us responsible for what we do to defend ourselves against you."

Alex, however, was in a very scary headspace. His rage was fueling a power he had no idea existed, his power was fueling the rage, and his king's words meant very little to him as all of his rage focused on one target and became energy. He flew at her, literally, sword out, and he shoved his anger through the blade, a lance of lightning both black and white shoved out of Brightshine's tip at Miri.

Miri dodged the clumsy, rage-filled strike, surprise in her eyes.
"So, you remember Mara's power, I see..."
Her tone was surprised, thoughtful, and sad as she considered the rage-filled image in front of her.

Alex himself was shocked and that rage died away, but his actions had started the fight and now, they'd have to finish it. Her words struck into his heart - who was Mara?
"I don't remember a thing - the power just happened. But it doesn't matter. I have sworn an oath to fight the Darkness, and so I shall."

Alexander watched almost helplessly as his captain deliberately disobeyed him and took the first strike at Miri. And he wanted to yell at him. He wanted to scream at him, for the first time tell him that dammit, his job was to obey what Alexander ordered him to do and for the first time he didn't listen to him.
But he couldn't. His superiors in the Sumata would probably look down on him, telling him he had too soft of a heart...because all he could worry about was the safety of both Alex and Miri, even if Miri pushed all of the last of Alexander's buttons.
'Man...what would dad do...'
Keep everyone safe. The less casualties in a war, the better. It sounded stupid back then, but right now it was the most sensical thing that Alexander could think of. He didn't want Alex to die, and though she annoyed him, he didn't feel Miri deserved to die, either.
His magic was weak on Earth, but he stood still and leaned on his staff, concentrating all of his available power to bring out only one form - 'Foxy', his fox-shaped animal, strong as she ever was. But he could only muster one of her.
"Foxy...look after them," Alexander, weakened and voice aching with sadness, spoke to her. She whimpered at the sight of her master looking so defeated, and then stood tall and faced Miri and Alex. She then ran close to the fray and stood, alert, waiting for a moment when her skills were needed to deter a killing blow or to actually save a life itself.

"So. Be. It."
Miri ignored the creature, launching an attack at Alex, slicing forward at the man who had been her friend and had dealt her so many blows.

The fox tilted its head to the side sadly, whimpering as Miri attacked Alex. She stepped forward, trying to stay out of the way of Miri's blade--as 'Foxy' had learned, if she became too badly injured or 'killed' then she would disappear and the master would have to summon her again, something that she felt she could not afford in her master's current condition--and leaped in between the two of them.
She let out an oddly, high-pitched squeal, almost in attempt to settle the two of them down. She wasn't a stupid creature, she got the idea it was almost like putting out a forest fire in the drought season.

Miri looked down at the fox.
"What are you, little one? Wherever you came from, go home... this si our fight, and you shouldn't interfere - you'll only get hurt."
She blocked a blade strike from Alex.
"Why not use your full power? I know you can!"

"When will you get it through your thick skull that I have no clue what you're talking about?"
He recognized his liege's fox-spirit, and he sighed.
"Foxy, go back to King Alex and protect him. This isn't his fight, or yours."

Foxy squealed out at Miri and Alex again, shaking her head and dodging a couple of the attacks yet. She ran to Miri's side and stared up at her with wide eyes. As much as she'd like to listen to either of them, her orders from her master were to be carried out.
She stayed close to Miri--it would look bad for her to hang close with Alex, she figured.
