How did this happen?
What were the odds of this happening?
Lana couldn't even remember where and how she had met the woman, that was how surprising this was. The last thing she remembered, she was out in search of more of the heroes that Yeligar was collecting, and she beat down someone in her way...
And suddenly this lady appeared in front of her. "Lana?" she instantly spoke, "...Lana Princel?"
Lana's eyes had widened - how in the world did this woman know who she was?
As it turned out, the woman with greying brunette hair was Lana's Aunt Julia, who had lived in Unda for the longest time with her husband and two children. It was only expected that Julia invited her over for dinner.
This place made Lana feel awkward. It was bright, for starters, and the light burned her eyes.
The house was also quite small, and had something like a...'family' feel to it. It was decorated with chairs all over, these people liked to have friends and family visits, obviously.
She was greeted by her two cousins, the ten year-old boy she remembered had only just been born the last time she saw him, and the fourteen year-old girl who now had long, brunette hair like her mother and didn't pick her nose anymore.
It was creepy. It was like she was raising her life back from the dead, and she didn't like it.
"Your uncle should be home soon, Lana," Julia said as they all sat down at the table, "he'll be more than delighted to see you after all of these years. It was so worrying, having you disappear on us all like that."
"Yeah..." Lana responded quietly, and picked at the massive plate of food that was piled in front of her. "It uh...has been awhile..."
"You know, your Uncle Gerard and I were to be your caregivers if anything happened to your parents."
"....Really?"
"Yes. As I said, we were worried sick when we heard you went missing."
Lana never thought that she had "gone missing" - she was abandoned. She had had nothing to miss her.
The front door burst open and in walked the brown-headed man with a moustache much the same colour. He stopped when he saw the red-headed, grey-eyed woman sitting at the table.
"Julia! I'm home...and who is this?" he asked, eyeing Lana. Lana promptly broke eye-contact with him to alleviate the awkwardness she was feeling.
"Gerard, you'll never believe it...it's Lana!" Julia excitedly exclaimed - their daughter quickly nodded her head in agreement with her mother. Gerard's eyes widened and he walked over to give Lana another look-over.
"...Princel?" he asked and Lana immediately responded with, "Yes, sir." It took him another moment before his face burst into a giant grin and he gave Lana a tight hug before taking his place at the table.
"I can't believe this!" he said, "the last time I saw you, you had such long hair, you were so small...your eyes were much wider, but you lived in Santo-Luce. You're so pale now, you look like you've been living in a closet."
"I'm...well, I haven't been living in Santo-Luce for awhile," Lana answered solemnly, "I've rarely been back there. I move all over."
"It's so good to know you're safe. What have you been up to all of these years, though?" her uncle asked, digging in to his dinner. Lana shrugged.
"...um...army work, I guess you could say," she answered quietly and her aunt smiled greatly.
"That's fantastic! We need more skilled people in the army - Gerard is part of the Crepusculum army himself, he's a soldier," she said and Lana sighed, shaking her head.
"I don't think you quite understand, I'm not..."
Lana trailed off, but then the little boy spoke up excitedly. "Oooh! Can you snap someone's neck and throw them through walls?! Daddy threw a Sumata soldier through a wall the other day, he came in our house..."
Lana's eyes widened slightly, and then she put the fork down and refused to touch her food. This was only getting too uncomfortable, she didn't know how much more of it she could take.
"Lana, you haven't been touching anything. Are you okay?"
She didn't look up at them. She didn't like being here, surrounded by these...good-hearted people, people who thought she was just like them.
She stood up suddenly, and headed towards the door.
"I'm sorry, I can't stay. I don't deserve any of this. Your kindness, your words, your sentiments...anything you've been offering me," she said and her aunt Julia stood herself and followed her.
"Lana, what are you talking about? You're our family, and we..."
"I'm not part of the Crepusculum army!" Lana snapped and swung the door open, staring out at the streets before her. Julia approached her and put her hand on Lana's shoulder; Lana responded by shrugging it off.
Gripping the doorknob tightly, Lana said, "I'm...a Sumata Captain for Nerezza."
She didn't stay to find out how they responded. She heard a sharp gasp, and something fell over on the table...that was more than enough that she had to hear to know what they thought.
Lana left the only family of hers alive and ran back into the streets.
...She didn't know that her uncle would soon be searching for her.
