Zeke took Alex's introduction as his cue. He stepped forward to face the massive crowd before him. It reminded him of the first time he stood before the Crepusculum soldiers in his time in Ignis and Ketalunanox. He had stuttered and stammered as he fidgeted before them, saved only by Don and his choice words. Back then he had never dreamed he'd be able to even look them in the eyes again, much less give a decent speech.
Yet the masses of Lux Lucis did not faze him as he rose an arm dramatically in the air, his fist clenched tightly in the air. He smiled and watched silently as Alex continued with his speech, until the random citizen spoke up in protest of war. "Excuse me sir, but are you saying you will not protect yourself should soldiers march into your city? Are you going to lie down peacefully as your home is overrun by evil?" Zeke stepped up to Alex, his annoyance with the protest begging him to say something.
"If you want to enjoy peace, you have to earn it! Just because you don't start wars doesn't mean they won't come to your doorstep. When that happens, will you not go to war to protect yourselves?" An awkward silence came over those in the crowd that could hear him. "Me and my friends will do our best to ensure these things don't happen, and if need be I'll fight back the enemy from your borders and your homes with my own two hands. I'll do that because if you want peace, sometimes you have to fight for it!" Zeke struck a fighting pose before he finally looked to Alex. He couldn't tell if his outburst had left the king pissed or relieved, but all the same his face flushed red and he silently moved back behind Alex again to let him continue his speech.
At the end, Zeke nodded to Alex, seeing only a few people leave with a grimace on their face. "Yeah, it could've gone a lot worse." He said, all the while wondering if his words had any impact at all. Man, and to think I'd thought I'd gotten a hang of this stuff. Maybe it just works better with guys already looking to fight.
