"Vaan?" Faey had been pacing in the castle for about half an hour before finally working up the courage to do what had to be done. She would have to leave Allorum soon, and... She wasn't sure if she'd ever be coming back. "Vaan? Um... We need to talk." Of course, the oldest line in the book, Faey. Way to sound like an insensitive whiny person.

He turned to her, catching the worry in her eyes and the nervous tempo of her heartbeat.
"Are... are you okay?"

Faey's breath caught and she couldn't look him in the eyes. "I... Vaan..." She took a deep breath and focused her gaze on the floor in front of her dirty bare feet for a moment before looking back up at him. "Vaan, I'm going back to Earth."

He went to her, unable to do anything to help her, only able to watch her downcast expression.
"You're... you're going to go home, right? Isn't that... isn't that a good ting?"

He was startled, jumped a little.

And then he understood, and he felt like falling to the ground right there. He shook his head.

Faey shook a little bit, trying not to cry. "Vaan... I'm so sorry... I wish I could stay but... I don't belong here. We both know that."

He nodded, numbly.
"And... I can't follow you to Earth."
He had to turn around. he didn't want her to see the tears building in his eyes.
"At least... you came to say goodbye..."

He turned away from her. "Oh, Vaan..." She couldn't stop herself now and she walked up to him and hugged him. "I am so sorry... I wish I could stay... I really wish I could..."

"I don't know. Maybe we never should have tried a relationship. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. But... I guess it's the way things have to be, whether we like it or not." Head bowed, she pulled away. "I wish it could be different Vaan...."

Faey hugged him back, pressing her face into his shoulder. "I can't ask you to leave everything behind and follow me to a world that would persecute you at best. You wouldn't like it there... I couldn't do that to you, Vaan.."

His tears wet her shoulder. "I know. I... I wish things had been different, Faey. But... maybe this is for th best. I mean... we're dependent on you humans for our lives and our children, but... there's so many bad things that could happen in such a relationship."
