Faey looked at herself in teh mirror and gasped. "Oh... I had no idea..." That I could look like that. She couldn't even finish the sentence aloud. "Thank you Elexa. Now I think... I think I can face Vaan and at least know I don't look like a mess." she smiled weakly, nervous beyond belief.
Shiluya led the way to the main hall, firing questions the whole way, "How have you been, what have you been doing, what happened while I was away, are you still waiting for Faeylinn?" Shiluya paused after the last question, wanting to hear the answer to the question Faey had asked more than a few times on Earth, not realizing Shiluya had been listening in.

At the mention of Faey's name, a look came into Vaan's eyes. It was a look of sadness, of loneliness, of happy memories buried in a sad parting.
"Faey... I.... I miss her more than anything in the world.... if only.... if only she could come back to me....!" He blinked back tears. "But... that's not going to happen. 'Sides, she's probably found some great Earth guy and fallen head over heels. I bet she doesn't even think of me anymore...."
He shook his head. "I still think about her, though. Every day..."

Shiluya rubbed her head against his arm comfortingly, wanting to tell him that Faey was just upstairs getting ready to see him, but Lady Elexa said not to tell him.
Faey took a deep breath to steady herself. "Okay, I'm ready... I think... Oh god, I'm not sure if I can do this..." She'd never felt so nervous before, and her hands were trembling.

Elexa patted Faeys' shoulder comfortingly. "Don't worry, Faey. You can do this... I know you can." She gave her what she hoped was a reassuring smile.

Faey took a few calming breaths and stood, walking to the steps that led down to the main hall.
Shiluya circled around Vaan's head a few times quickly. "LOOK LOOK LOOK!" She flew over to the staircase to draw his attention to where Faey was now descending the stairs.
She was smiling at Vaan, crying despite her best efforts not to. The dress, a deep emerald green with a full skirt reminiscent of disney princesses, matched her eyes and accented her pale skin beautifully. She paused for just a moment when she saw his face, and whispered his name, "Vaan..."
Seeing him... It was almost as though she'd never left Allorum. She tried to continue waking down the steps at an even pace, but when she got closer to the bottom she couldn't wait any more. she ran down the last few steps and straight to him, throwing her arms around him. "Oh Vaan..."

It was like watching something running in slow motion, the moment he laid eyes on her and then her walk down the stairs. He was dazzled, almost afraid to believe, amazed by how much she'd changed and yet how much the same she was.he felt tears spring to his eyes, tears he'd been holding back for a year, and as she began to run, he called out her name.
Then she was in his arms and he picked her up and spun her around, catching her, smiling, crying, holding her close, still amazed at how beautiful she looked and also the fact that she was here, with him, once again, and Shiluya flew in circles around their heads, and he held her tightly as he could, as if he was worried that she might disappear again at any moment...

"I missed you so much..." She held on to him tightly, pressing her face into his shoulder for a moment, then pulling away to look him in the face. He looked just the way he had a year ago, and though so much had changed since then, she still felt as strongly towards him as she had.

He smiled at her, sadly, happily, bittersweetly. He was confused, but one thing was clear... she was back, and he still loved her.

"Of course I missed you," she replied, hugging him tightly, "I thought of you every day I was gone."
Then another thought popped into her mind and she pulled away slightly. "Vaan, I... You didn't.. Find someone else, did you?..." she was terrified to hear the answer.
"No, he said he didn't, and that he thought of you every day you were gone!" Shiluya replied for him happily, circling still.
Faey smiled and hugged him again, "Thank god..."

"How could I ever find someone as beautiful, as amazing, as wonderful as you?" He held her, shook his head. "Not possible on Allorum. I was worried you'd found someone on Earth that was better than me..."

"Not possible on Earth," she echoed his words, "Or on Allorum either, for that matter. Whenever a guy showed interest, they just didn't match up. I could never bring myself to care about another guy the way I care about you, Vaan." Then she registered something no one had said to her in honesty before- that she was beautiful. He really thinks I'm beautiful?..

He nodded. "I.... turned down some offers, Faey. I couldn't take them... not when I had you to think about." He smiled, and for the first time in a year, he meant it. "Let's stay like this. Forever. You... and me."

Forever. She blinked, surprised. Stay with Vaan, forever... The thought of it made her unbelivably happy, and yet... So much had changed in the year they'd been apart. Faey's taken on responsibilities, grown more mature. She couldn't just abandon her job- not when so few people were willing to do it, to help the ailing for close to no pay.
"Vaan, I..." her voice caught. "Forever is a long time." She said after a moment, not sure of what to do, or even of exactly what he was asking.

And something in his eyes broke.
"I know... I know it's not possible in reality... but for the moment... I just... I want to ebe able to believe in forever.... we're all about illusions, Faey. Please... grant me this one..."

Faeylinn saw the hurt in his eyes. She wanted more than anything to tell him that she would stay with him forever, and that nothing else mattered, but that wasn't true. She had obligations, if only to go back to the clnic and tell them she couldn't work for them any more, to go tell her family goodbye.
"I can't say that Vaan..." She whispered, "I can't make an illusion. I want to stay with you, but forever... Forever is a promise I'm not ready to make. We have right now, and that's more than I'd even dared to hope I'd get. Things have changed... I've changed... And I can't just walk away from everything like I would have before. Please let this be enough, at least for now..."
