Kurai disappeared in a puff of smoke, as a shadow suddenly started to gather around Shin's feet. Kurai was bearing down upon him with a different attack in hand, it was white and blue and crackled with energy.
"Raikiri; Lightning Cutter!"
The squeaking and chirping of the attack got progressively louder as it got closer to Shin, the flashing lightning bouncing off of it making it hard to loo directly at. Raikiri was basically a condensed version of Chidori, but if Kurai was being honest? This was barely even a Chidori, burns if it made contact, plus the blow-away effect of the rasengan it was built upon, little else.

My mind quickly analyzed his stance, faster than anything I could really call 'thought', an instinct honed by all the years I'd been practicing. It was a straight attack; if I dodged again, I could counter before he could change positions.
I did so, again striking for his unprotected flank with a reinforced palm.

Kurai had thought that he wouldn't need to use the Sharingan during the fight, but it seems that Shin's reactions were a lot quicker than he'd initially thought. Admittedly, he'd sold the kid short, his reflexes were sharp and his taijutsu was superb. Rolling with the blow to his side, he flipped away from Shin and across the deck. Landing firmly on his feet, he rubbed his side before reaching up to his headband.
"I've got to admit..." He said with a small nod. "You're fast, and your hand to hand skills are powerful. So, I think it is time that you got a little taster of what I can really do!" He lifted his hand and headband, exposing his red Sharingan. His power level suddenly increasing and every little motion in Shin's body suddenly becoming more apparent. Taking a defensive stance, he raised his hands towards Shin and motioned for him to attack.

The minute someone with more experience invites you to attack first, they're about to knock you on your ass. The trick is to prove to them that you can get knocked on your ass in an intelligent way, and then be grateful about the lesson you just received. Just charging in is stupid, and suicidal.
I closed slowly, trying to watch for any tells as I circled my new teacher. He didn't really seem to have any - but most experienced warriors don't.
Suddenly, I changed speeds, going from slow descent to a lightning-quick strike, aiming to catch him off-guard or by surprise.

Kurai on the other hand, could see every little tell that Shin revealed, although he had expected as such. He could see the momentum in his strike shift, and acted accordingly. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion as Shin's attack came towards him he brought his forward left hand around in an arc towards his left side, knocking Shin's attack aside. Stepping forwards on his right foot so that his right hand side faced Shin, he slipped his right foot forward, aiming to knock his weight out from under him and send him falling towards Kurai. As he brought his foot forwards, he also brought his right elbow out, aiming to catch Shin's chest as he fell forwards.

It was an elegant, efficient, and insanely fast counterstrike...
And, true to my prediction, I got knocked on my ass.
"Ow," I mumbled to myself, coming quickly back to my feet again. I waited for either a critique, or another attack, or both, staying in a defensive stance this time. I was feeling much calmer than I had been even a few minutes before, feeling the pleasant, burning heat of my own fire growing in me, tingling in every line of my body.
It was incredible. It was exhilarating. As always, it was also terrifying - but I couldn't concentrate on that now. If I let my concentration slip, Kurai would have no mercy.

Kurai instantly pushed his offensive, seeing that he now seemed to have the advantage.
Charging towards Shin, he brought his left hand upwards in a backwards arc, his palm and fingers pointed downwards, almost like some sort of spider. Using the back of his hand, he aimed to break through his defence and spread his arms out wide. Whilst his left hand came up, his right hand clenched into a fist and pulled back, arcing around in the same direction as his left hand, he thrust it forwards, through Shin's now, hopefully, broken defence, aiming to punch him in the gut.

Unfortunately, it worked. All the air went out of me in a rush, as I fought to stay on my feet, doubled over from the blow.
If I wanted to come out of this with even a small amount of my dignity, I'd need to go on the offensive; I'd need to show him what I was really capable of. I felt cold at the idea, but I'd regained enough control to do it without any serious consequences.
I needed to get some distance...

Kurai was granting him no such opportunity. As Shin stumbled away he continued to push the offensive, bringing his hands together, he looked up at his sparring partner.
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Two more Kurai burst into life, one either side of the original, before all three charged, aiming to surround Shin.

Unless I did something soon, I was done; and I wasn't ready to be done.
The fire slipped out of the noose I held it in, refusing to be held back any longer, and it streamed from my fingers, forming a ring around me, raising high into a wall to prevent Kurai and his clones from coming nearer. I struggled against a brief panic, surrounded, trapped, no way out, but this fire was mine and it would do what I asked of it. It opened in the back, allowing me to slip out of the shield before it broke in three, one piece each heading for one of the three copies of my teacher. I only had to hope that the real Kurai would be able to defend against it.

The eyes of all three clones widened at the oncoming wall of fire, and started making hasty hand signs. One of the clones was caught in the flames and disappeared in a puff of smoke whereas the other two managed to make all the seals in time.
"Water style; Water Encampment Wall!"
Suddenly, water from the sides of the ship roared up and onto the deck, forming a protective circle around both versions of Kurai, cancelling out the effects of the fire. Suddenly, from inside the walls of water, the squeaking, chirping sound of electricity.
"Raiden; Lightning Transmission!"
A bolt of white lightning soared through one of the water shields, before bursting into the other where it hovered like a rope, connecting the two. Then, with little warning, Kurai and his clone both bomb burst from their respective encampments, the lightning bolt connecting the two by the hands. The pair ran, aiming to move to either side of Shin, trapping him in the energy bolt between them.
