Duo tilted his head to the side as Alexander spoke. He knew where this was going and it was hardly working how the way he had wished it, "Do not force me to add another body to the pile of dead leaders. I am giving you a chance to a better future, don't you dare throw it back at me."
Duo stood up from his seat, his patience was drawing to a close, "I am giving you one last chance. Take this partnership or face war, it's up to you." He held his hand out for Alexander to take it.

This moved along so quickly that Alexander was almost surprised that the guy just gave up during the 'debate' they were having. Did that mean Alexander won by annoying him?! or that Duo really wasn't ever looking for more than the opportunity to use a rebuttal system against him until he agreed with him?
Alexander rose to face Duo again, a little uneasy with the idea that if he were to tell Duo no, he's still not doing this that it was going to turn into something nasty. But again, wasn't that what he was already preparing for? He hadn't factored in the man trying to negotiate with him in this at all in the process.
He didn't take Duo's hand. He placed both hands on his hips and said with the same firm push in his voice he'd heard his father use years before, "So you dare to threaten me instead? Then you'll leave my kingdom, I make no deals."

There was a silence for a good half a minute before Duo reached out and grabbed Alexander's hand, pressing the palm of his hand against Duo's palm.
"There is a small village on the border of Crepusculum and Santo-Luce, inhabitants of about 67. By tomorrow at noon, 66 of them will die. One young woman will live and she'll tell all of Santo-Luce what I will tell you..."
He brought his hand away, it was replaced with 66 rose petals. Duo began to walk away from Alexander, but not before giving the King one last bow.
And that's when the sky suddenly twisted from being bright blue to dark and grey, thunder clashing joined with rapid rain fall, yet Duo words were echoed easily through the storm to Alexander's ear: "All of Santo-Luce is now at war."

Alexander kept his watch carefully on Duo as he walked away, even with the presence of something now sitting in his hand his eyes stayed locked on the man as the storm came raging in from out of nowhere. The thunder roared and the young king's heart rumbled rapidly along with it as Duo's words carried themselves only too well, Alexander almost not fully believing he was actually hearing what he was. It was like some mangled dream, as though he could open his eyes and tell himself "I didn't actually just do that"...but he did.
His eyes travelled to his open palm, rose petals spilling out. He knew not the number of petals he held, though enough to understand the one symbol of many that the rose held as death, all too apparent as it appeared in his hand.
Would he find a way to send someone to help? Of course he would. Though despite those actions he was about to take he swallowed hard as he forced himself to accept what was his second first loss to Duo.
'I just sentenced those people to death...'
No war was ever won without a sacrifice, and those decisions were hard to make especially if one had no idea the consequences that would come from making what, truly, was the right decision rather than the easy one.
The easy way was giving up.
People are going to die.
Alexander let the rest of the rose petals in his hand fall to the soaked ground and he bit his lip as he took in as slow and deep as a breath he could to keep himself from shaking. He finally spoke aloud, trying to summarize his thoughts in the way he truly felt knowing this was inevitable, he wouldn't let himself back down, and horrible things were going to happen either because he acted or didn't in a certain way.
"Well this is a bitch, isn't it?"
