“Hey there listeners, it's your new daytime radio host Kevin Uruhane. And I am sitting in this 1100 degree booth wishing I didn't have that taco if you know what I mean. Hahah! Yeah, anyway, do I have a doozy story for all you listeners. I hope you enjoy your air conditioning, because after this story of mine if you didn't you will now...”
(Opening theme: In too deep- Sum 41)
It was another average day at the Sumata Radio...an average HOT day, the temperature was near 100 degrees and the radio station had the unfortunate luck of having their air conditioning busted that day. Profeta called out for an repairman, but all the phones were busy...so they had to rely on their on deck repairman.
“So this guy is named Tempest?” Kevin asked, fanning his head with his baseball cap.
“Huh? No, that's the name of his company.” Tidus said, “Tempest Thunder.”
“Okay...so what IS his name?” Kevin asked.
“...I just told you, Tempest Thunder.”
Kevin paused, “But...I was asking for his name, not for the...nevermind.”
Tidus shrugged and resumed fanning himself, Volkmar seemed to be teetering the edge of a rage fit, Andy seemed unaffected by the heat, Elexa had unbuttoned every button on her shirt except for one in the middle, which that single button could very well change the rating of this short from T to M. Grim seemed to be stewing around murderous thoughts, Profeta was doing paperwork despite the heat, Gensayce and Kara seemed the most affected by the heat for they were downing water like a stranded man in a desert. The two interns, Harumi and Jasmine had portable fans they were using to keep cool.
“I...have...to...kill...someone...” Grim was muttering, looking at Kevin in an insane way.
“Oh can it,” Andy scoffed.
“Oh you wanna bring it you traffic cone, tattoo badass wannabe?!” Grim roared, standing up.
“Any time Popsicle.” Andy said, unafraid.
“Oh come on,” Kevin shook his head at Andy, “That is the weakest insult I ever-”
He stopped when he looked at Grim, where tears were streaming down his face.
“He...always hits it where it hurts,” Grim said, wiping the tears from his eyes.
What the...really?! Kevin thought, looking at Andy as he slipped on some more headphones and listened to music.
Soon the doors opened and a young man with white and yellow streaked hair walk in carrying a box of tools, Profeta stood up and shook his hand. Kevin guessed this was the studio's repairman.
“Glad you could come out,” Profeta said.
“I was glad you guys even called me...after what happened with me trying to jump start your brother's 10,000 dollar car...” the young man, which Kevin decided to call him Tempest until someone told him his actual name, chuckled nervously. “Anyway, I'll get started on the conditioning.”
He walked off into the next room and vanished, the clattering of tools could be heard followed by the sounds of banging and clanking. However, the sounds kinda...continued. It was as if Tempest was hitting a hammer continuously against something. The sounds persisted for awhile until suddenly there was this sound that went a little like-
BRZAP!
Then all the lights in the studio went out, Kevin's eyes widened before his vision was covered in darkness. There was some brief yelps from the girls but it was mostly quiet. The people of the station were kind of hoping the lights would pop on soon...
They didn't.
“Oh that can't be good.” Tidus said, voicing Kevin's thoughts.
Kevin got up from his seat and began to feel his way through the dark, feeling along the edges of the couch, tripping a little on the leg of the couch so his grip moved off to the side to something that was soft and cushy.
And no, it wasn't the couch. For the yelps of Profeta alerted to Kevin that he could soon be on probation if the lights flipped on, so he made haste and made his way to the room where the electrician left. As soon as he got in the emergency lights clicked on and there he saw a rather discomforting sight: the electrician holding a large set of wires and a box that looked like it was connected to something pretty damn important.
“Okay...clearly I shouldn't have pulled this out of the wall.” Tempest said.
“No...really?” Kevin said, his voice barely containing sarcasm. “So what are you gonna do now, we have no broadcasts now and we need to get them back up now.”
“Have no fear,” Tempest assured him, turning back to the box where he pulled the thing out of. “I have a backup plan.”
He grabbed two wires that were previously connected to the box he had ripped out earlier, looked at them and then attempted to connect the two wires together. What happened is something that Kevin won't be forgetting very soon, first the room became a bright painful white, then a dark shadow was flung backwards into the room where everyone was, and last was a pair of loud screaming and a familiar sound of what Kevin dubbed as 'Brzap'.
Moments after the paramedics picked up the 'shellshocked' electrician an emergency crew managed to fix the problem and get the power back up and running, they couldn't fix the heat though so they would have to deal with it. Kevin was standing by the police officers on scene giving his eye witness along with Profeta.
“...and then we phoned you guys, that's pretty much what happened officer Maelstrom.” Kevin said to the officer with the eyepatch.
“Alright then...okay, thank you for your time.” he said, finishing writing on a notepad.
“Yeah no problem,” Kevin said.
“You boys got here fast,” Profeta noted, “Not a lot of stuff going on?”
“Oh no we're busy with a lot of stuff, big emergency stuff going on.” Officer Maelstrom said, suddenly his fellow partner: a man with short blond hair and a strong jaw ran up to him.
“Partner big problem.....we're out of coffee, we need to go to Starbucks pronto!” he yelled as the now embarrassed Officer Maelstrom.
“...Yes Officer Louqe, we'll get to that.” Officer Maelstrom sighed aggravatingly.
“Loque?” Kevin repeated, “As in...like Jasmine Loque?”
“That's her father yes,” Profeta said, “he and Officer Maelstrom come here rather frequently.”
“I imagine so...” Kevin spoke, looking at the rather jittery looking blond man.
“Well we won't keep you boys,” Profeta said, walking with Officer Maelstrom. “I'll let you go on you coffee run, oh yes by the way, I may stop by the station later...”
“Oh really? Why?” Officer Maelstrom asked.
“During the blackout I think someone tried to grope me,” she said, earning a shocked look from Officer Maelstrom. “And when I find the person who did it you better believe I'll be pressing charges, hell I'll sue his ass even.”
Kevin felt his stomach constrict as Profeta walked off talking of her plans to utterly destroy her groper, he decided to walk away and think of a really good excuse to as how he could not be the one who accidentally touched his boss's chest. Besides, he had a radio show to host.
“...and that's what happened folks, we may got the power back on but we still got the damn heat. Well enough of me jabbering away, next up we got some new songs from the upcoming rock group The Saints and some rumors of them going toe to toe with their rival group the Kishu...”
