Lana felt something jump in her stomach again; she'd managed to finally associate it with Kouichi being close, being his kind self in a way that seemed to make her feel...welcomed, and happy. As nice as it had turned out to be, it was still inconvenient at times...meh, or perhaps she was just too self-conscious. Whatever.
All the same, she shook her head at Kouichi as she responded, "You don't get it. I was trained poorly, harshly by this man until I decided enough was enough. There was an accident in which I thought I killed him, but I didn't. Not only did I not have the position of captain rightfully, but when he came back and finally was killed...it wasn't by my hands as it should have been."
And without even realizing it, she'd taken her hand and rested it on Kouichi's.
"Being able to protect what I want to protect is one thing, but if I can't even defeat an enemy of mine on my own...I don't feel like I'm quite worthy of that position."

He shook his head. "I understand, but... I wish you'd stop putting yourself down. I'm sure that in a one-on-one, hand-to-hand fight, you could kick the ass of most of the heroes... maybe not Andy, but, then, he's got other crap going on."
He sighed. "I know... I know I'm not helping much..."

"Not entirely, you're more of a help than you'd think. I..." hmm, where was Lana going with this, anyhow?
"It's...it's nice to have the company...especially of someone like you. You're not a biased jackass, though sometimes I worry that your kindness is going to get you in a ton of s***!" she kind of...'half-glared' at him, then? Lana had given him quite a stern look even though she wasn't actually angry at Kouichi. She probably would have also argued that she could take Andy, and teach his stupid ass a lesson, but it probably wasn't the best time to do it.
...yes, Lana has a bit of an ego, stfu.

He laughed softly. "That's the Lana I know." He almost finished the statement off with the common ending, 'and love' but somehow...
Somehow that felt too close to true for comfort right now.
What's going on with me? he wondered, smiling at himself. He'd just met her one day, and felt... sympathy for her, and then they started traveling together... and then came that... event at the dance, and now he was wondering about how he truly felt about this strange and amazing woman.

Lana smirked at him as he laughed. What, was she just that funny? She must have been, he had that weird smile on his face, the one that seemed to force her to smile herself.
She tried to fight it, trying to keep her image up but she ended up scrunching her face into something hilariously ugly before she found herself having to turn away.
"I uh...so..." she decided she was going to try to be brave about this after avoiding it all night, and somehow uh...'explain' herself, "what happened...after our dance...that was..."
She trailed off, as though she were trying to figure out what in the hell she had to say.

He looked away, blushing slightly.
"Y-yeah...?"
His ears twitched nervously, and he wished more than ever that he were human, because humans didn't have involuntary movements betraying their every emotion when they wanted to hide how they felt.

And...Lana suddenly found herself unable to speak.
....Dammit, Lana, get it out! Whatever you have to say, anyway. But what exactly was that? She liked it? Did he like it? It was horribly frustrating. And yet she was hellbent on trying to figure it out--anything to make this less...less awkward.
"It's just...w-well," and there she went, stumbling with her words again. This wasn't the confident-sounding woman that she usually was. She took a deep breath and tried to play this out as cool as she could.
"Well...you've been kind of quiet since then. You're quiet enough as it is, but you've been even moreso since--something wrong, or what?"
Bravo, Lana. Way to be a jerk, as usual.

His blush deepened. It was his mistake, his misjudgement, but at the same time, it had been an electrifying feeling. He was so scared to say anything, but he had to.
"W-well... see, I..." What could he say about it that wouldn't sound amazingly awkward. "I... I've been thinking about it a lot... that's really what I do, think." Great, he sounded like a moron. "And... see, I've been thinking that maybe... I'm not so sorry it happened?"
He crossed his fingers and hoped she didn't take offense.

Lana's face fell and she lost the pushy look she had going on only a moment ago, replaced quickly by confusion.
"O-oh? Is that so? Well, maybe you shouldn't think too much and--" and what? Really. Quit your lying, didn't you just hear what you wanted to hear? Wasn't this enough?
She bit her lip and scrunched her face up again.
"--and I...am not sorry either. I meant to..."
She didn't need to finish that one, she said far more than enough right there.

He looked up, his eyes meeting hers.
"R-really...?"
He was shocked, and he felt a little dizzy, like something was messing with his mind. He couldn't stop shaking, despite the fact that the hotel room wasn't cold. He willed his body to be still, but it wasn't cooperating.

Lana stared at him for a long, long moment. Something about this was so scary, like she was in a battle, but no one died in this one.
...And she never usually became scared during a battle. Wtf.
Well, she'd stepped into it...might as well fess up. She was telling the truth afterall...a truth that she'd been holding onto, trying to hide, and the stupid thing was that she could actually hear her heart pounding loudly inside of her. It was kind of...creepy.
"...Yeah...call it stupid or creepy if you want, but..." she took a big breath and finished with, "...it was kind of nice in a way..."
There. She let it out. And...somehow she felt better. The pounding stopped, and she seemed to feel more...relaxed?

Kouichi was more accustomed to fear and recognized it's signs in himself, but this was a different fear, a strange fear. Her words caused him to feel like his heart missed a beat.
"Well, so.... so did I..."
He was redder than he'd ever been, and the nervous twitching continued. He felt better after saying it, but at the same time... something hung between them that was almost tangible, a feeling in the air that had nothing to do with any physical or magical force but more to do with the silence and the sound of their breath and his heart thudding along as though it tapped out the beat to some kind of song that only it knew the words and music for.

There was nothing Lana could say at the moment - what words could she possibly have now? She wasn't good with words to begin with, she was more of an action person than anything.
In this instance action was what she responded with, taking Kouichi and pulling him into a warm embrace. Here in her arms was the person who opened his heart to her, sympathized with her struggles, and genuinely appreciated and seemingly wanted her company, despite all of her obvious flaws. It was his kindness no matter how she treated him that stuck out to her, and ultimately what made him become the most precious thing she had, other than her parents she lost so many years ago.
And it was the thought of her parents in particular that made her tighten her hug on him.
'He belongs to me...I don't care what anyone says, he belongs to me and there isn't a damn soul in the world who's going to take him away from me...'
She shook, repeating these words over and over in her head.

He was slightly surprised by the action, but he hugged her back. Something in him hummed with a posessive pleasure.
I've finally found someone who I can protect. And now that I've found my purpose here in these worlds, there's no one who can stop me.

Now that she held him, she really didn't want to let go. It felt like there was a giant weight just taken off of her shoulders, something incredibly heavy that had latched on to her so long ago she couldn't even remember and only now did it finally let go. It felt weird, though it felt nice.
This feeling was relaxing. For the first time in awhile she let a genuinely content smile grace her lips and she closed her eyes, sighing heavily. What was this? She'd avoid using the word 'love' because it was, to her, way too large of a word. But she liked this, and very much.
"So..." she finally mumbled again, that strange softness in her being able to be felt and heard clearly, "what happens now?"
