Alice frowned further, and pounded the floor for a bit, before Kouji took her into his arms, and she cried..and cried.
She was simply overcome with every emotion except happiness, explaining further in sobbing cries,
"S...She said that in..in order for a dead person to be revived..t..that a dark art would have to be performed...t..that in order for ME to live...s..she had to die!" She clutched onto Kouji's shoulder, shaking her head.
"Tha..that last move of h..hers...it was a ritual..n..not a harmful..." She then breathed in deeply, and shook her head, sniffling, trying to regain herself: Be strong, just like her mother.
"..She told me..to say thank you..."..She frowned down..."I..I don't want to...but..thank you.."

And there it was.
It was clear to Zeke why he felt no sense of victory or accomplishment from slaying Serena. He had been tricked into the equivalent of murder. As he watched the girl he had just orphaned sob at Kouji's side he hung his head in shameful and bitter resentment, both for himself and the Queen of Chabyls.
"I don't blame you for hating me. I imagine you want me dead for what I did to your mother, and honestly I can't think of a single reason why you shouldn't." Zeke could only lift his head to stare onwards, unable to look into the girl's eyes. He knew it would weaken him. He knew it would weaken his resolve.
"When this is all over... when we defeat Trucido and you're ready, you come find me and we'll finish this. That's a promise." Zeke's brush slid into its shouldered holster and with that he took off to the final battlefield.

Kouji looked up at Zeke's back.
"Zeke.... I'm sorry."
Then he gave Alice one more hug.

Alice was calmed by the man's words and Kouji's hug, and she only softly smiled: That didn't stop the tears, but it was better than nothing.
"W...well I guess...you need to get out..Mom told me.." She flipped through the book, and trailed a line with her finger, sending a portal out to their forward position, closing the book afterwards.
"...I forgive you. Only because my mother did: She died for Me. She needed you to finish it for my sake. This...This is all my fault."
Her eyes shifted lightly from blue to demonic red, then back to blue.
"I..uhm.." She looked at Kouji and patted the top of his head once.
"Thank you. I just wish I could do something more for you both, but Mom only taught me how to open that portal..."

Kouji nodded.
"It's alright. You've done all you can. I have to go, Alice. There's something I need to do; an evil that I need to stop. Is there anyone left who can take care of you?"

Alice looked up at Kouji, and looked down, holding her compendium to herself, turning away from Kouji without a word.
She slowly extended a hand, waving him off softly, telling him without words to go, she figured any sight of her tears or the like would make him worry for her, as she sat down, and clutched the book to her chest.
Alice just softly played with the cloud with one finger, nervously even: She had been dead for years in technicality: Her mother was the only one who knew of her at the moment: She had only been just summoned.

"That's a no, I take it."
He thought for a moment.
"I don't want to put you in danger, but I don't know where I can take you where you'll be safe."
This was a fine mess.
"Besides, even if I took you back to your castle, the people there wouldn't take so kindly to a Hero more than likely."
He sighed.
"I wonder if they'd take you in Nerezza? Man, this is a mess." He ran his hands through his hair. "Don't worry, though. It's not your fault, Alice, not at all."

Alice folded her arms over her book closer, out of fear of the near rambling.
"....I..I can ...do something I'm sure.."...
She frowned down, and looked to Kouji with a turn around.
"..I don't exist to any of your people...Everyone thought my mother was a single woman...I..I've been dead for so long apparently.." Alice shivered at the thought of dying again.
"..I don't know what to do.."...She felt tears well up again, she would have normally said, 'Mom can take care of it..'

Kouji took her in his arms, starting to realize taht he was the only one there for this girl.
"Alice... I promise, I'll find a way to keep you safe and healthy. I promise. It may mean I have to leave you wwith someone else for a while... but I"ll be there."
He knew what he was promising, but he couldn't do anything else. His conscience wouldn't let him.

Alice frowned up at Kouji, with a bit of a hesitation; it was him and Zeke who had fought her mother, but she knew he meant well.
..She just needed some more ...confidence in herself.
Alice shook her head for a moment, put the book between her arms, and smiled up at Kouji, for the first time it seemed.
"...Thank you..." She started to walk, uneasily to be honest, only because she was trying to avoid the sight of the giant axe, still piercing the center of the cloud, as she nodded to Kouji.
"I've got the relic apparently so..I'll come with you for now at least until you are where you need to be.."

He nodded. "Let's go, then." He stood, taking her hand in his.

Alice almost shirked away, but maintained her composure, and smiled very lightly.
She figured this would be the best, she had to listen to her mother afterall.
"O..okay.." She gripped his hand lightly, and walked with them, toward Zeke, and toward the portal.
It was going to be a strange life to say the least, but Alice knew that she had a chance at living life. She would take it, lest her mother's death be in vain.

"It'll be alright," he told her as they stepped through.
"Just believe in me."

Alice felt the magic of the portal for the first time, and smiled lightly.
She would have to cling to those words for the rest of her life, or she would be all alone.
..Again..

Zeke stormed forward into the portal. He thought he had heard Kouji and Alice say something, but to him it was just empty noise. He was too busy looking forward to see behind him.
To defeat Trucido, and have a hand in doing something he knew could play out no other way than an act of good. It was what all the fighting and turmoil had been for. He knew that in the end it didn't really matter if Alice did or didn't hate him for killing her mother. He understood it didn't matter if the people of Ignis thought he was a champion of good or a villainous monster. In the end it didn't even really matter if Alex or Don looked at him with approval after all this was all over. Right now the path he followed was his own, and he had to see it through to the end.
