A hollow wind blew across the desolate streets, the only sound carried on the whispering winds was that of the snarls and hisses of the beasts that had taken refuge within the towns foreboding walls. As the creatures prowled the tattered pathways that were once alive with the presence of human existence, their ears flickered, tails perked and heads swiveled to point at something, as it something had called to them by some divine means.
Around what was the city's former Town Square, several animals had gather to witness the beginning of a strange anomaly, as a portion of space residing several feet off the ground began to twist, bend and flex; like something trying to find its way out of a ballon. Finally the strange contortion of air began to crack and fissure, each stretch causing the fragmentations to grow in size until it finally shattered, revealing a svelte man who had suddenly emerged from seemingly nowhere.
Brushing himself off, the tall figure, took a moment to blow his silver hair off the one side of his face, his eyes glancing around to take in the sights of where he had arrived, that is until he came into visual contact with the steadily growing mass of creatures that were congregating behind him. His breathing froze for a second as his gaze met with one of the snarling quadrupeds; it's fang-baring face grimacing while also showing a kind of inexplicable confusion. Finding himself in a bit of mental aberrance, Romulus could only grimace himself for a second, though his was free of any disorientation, as he knew exactly what the situation was.
Taking the brief pause instilled by his arrival, Romulus quickly turned away from the horde that had amassed and began to run as fast as he legs would carry his light frame. "Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, can't I ever get a break!?" was all that ran through his mind as he looked back to notice the predators had begun to give chase. As he continued to run, he partially focused on the Alternator equipped to his left arm, running through some relatively simple equations he prepared just in case.
Turning around, he held out an outstretched palm toward the mass that had followed behind him. Concentrating on the ground below, the intricate mechanism on his left arm began to flicker with a mystic glow as the space waved with a slight bit off distortion before reverting to a seemingly normal state. As the wave of creature charged en masse, they suddenly took to the sky individually, each one lifted by a positioned anti-gravity well. "Take that you brazen, cranially deficient creatures," he mocked as he watched the creature take to the air...only to retain their forward momentum and ark over to Romulus' other side, effectively blocking him in.
As the forces began to pace towards him, his anxiety caused him to drop his gravity well, allowing the others to approach from his flank. A gut wrenching feeling began to set in as the encircling carnivores moved in, the dripping saliva of their wet chops visible to the man's naked eyes. Taking a quick glance to the sky, he bit his lip and prayed to the gods he had refuted so long ago in hopes that a miracle might save him.

Leeith had been watching the strange man since the moment the air had began to warp. It became obvious as he ran from the beasts that he was somehow controlling space with the device attached to his left arm. She watched, vaguely amused as he attempted to defend himself, shaking with silent laughter at his ridulous insult. As the creatures surrounded him she considered leaving him to die, but changed her mind. Not only was it painfully obvious that he couldn't defend himself at all, but he'd given her some entertainment. She owed him that. She stood, flexing her muscles in preparation as she unsheathed her scimitars. She launched herself from the rooftop she'd been perched upon, landing easily on the spine of one of the creatures, killing it easily and bringing both scimiatrs down on the necks of the beasts on either side of her. Three already dead, and many more to go. This would be a fun little excercise. She smiled to herself and kept moving, easily killing each creature in turn with the flash of her blades. Finally, each animal lay dead or dying on the street and she wiped off her scimitars on the skin of one, sheathing them before turning to the man.

The man's eyes glazed over as he watched the whirling dervish before him, each deft cut and agile strike landing with a deadly level of percision. As the twirling glint of blades slowly wound down, the form of a women met Romulus eyes, and he could do little but clap lightly as he assessed the situation; his eyes only now beginning to regain their glow of sensibility.
"Such dextrous hands, such keen eyes and a raw understanding of anatomy, interesting...interesting indeed," he mumbled as his right hand rose to his chin; his eyes perusing the surrounding carnage. Kneeling down, he begins to peel back the severed bits of flesh, looking intently at the skeletal structure and muscle groups of several of the deceased beasts around him. As he continues to mumble to himself while continuing his "studies", his eyes once again meet with the female warrior and he gazes for a second or two before smacking himself lightly in the head.
"Where are my manners; always diving head first into books...umm, figuratively speaking. Anyway, thank you brave warrior for you assistance in this most, err, unfortunate manner, but to whom, may i ask, should i thank for your brave efforts, or rather, umm, what is you name, milady?"

Leeith raised an at the man's mutterings. He was obviously a scholar of som sort, he knew what be was doing as he examined the bests she'd slain. And yet when he addressed her he seemed to be fumbling with each word before it left his mouth. Yet again, she found the stranger vaguely amusing, and decided to gift him with the knowledge of her name. "I am called Leeith." Her voice was soft, barely audible and strangely feminine despite her ruthlessness in battle.

As he watched the woman with his always inquisitive gaze, he found her rather coy and almost contemptuous in her dealings with him; her eyes hinting that she was looking down at him, even as he stared straight ahead. Taking a moment to scratch his head, he looked her over, making no effort to conceal his questioning glances, and eventually closed his eyes and once again brought his hand up to his chin. Holding this position for a second, his eyes finally whipped open as he snapped his fingers.
"I do thank you for you altruistic endeavors, but, and i do hope i do not offend, umm, why is it that finds you in such a desolate place? And please if we can skip past the, err... asinine back and forth brought on by this question, i shall explain my being here afterwards."

She rocked back on her heels a bit, debating whether to say anything or simply leave. She owed him no explanation, nor he she. So why was he asking, simple curiousity?n Her thoughts traveled back to a time when she had been very young, and curious also, and no one answered her questions. "I was on my way to Ariadelvento from Roccia, taking a rather... Circuitous route. I saw your attempt to flee the beasts, which amused me to some degree, and decided to return the favor of your entertainment and save your life."

Now the woman was starting to get on Romulus' nerves; her meek presentation belying her rather cutting tone and personality. In response to her facetious words, Romulus' eyes narrowed, his hair flopping over his right eye as he dipped his head slightly.
"Well it appears that the concept of my mortality has amused you, o' sadistic one. Since entertainment was all you sought, then i suppose my recompense to you has been repaid. Now if you excuse me, i have more important matters to attend to then the perversions of some plebeian vagabond. Now leave!"
As he utters the final part of his message, the ground under Leeits shifts, and within an instant, finds her thirty meters further down the dilapidated roads then she would remember, the visage of Romulus now in the distance, still glancing at her.
Stupid, ignorant woman. God i hate having to deal with the uneducated, but i suppose it's too much to hope that vestigial specimens such as her are capable of rudimentary logic or emotion. Ugh, unpleasant circumstances, always out to make things tough for Romulus. But that's behind me, time to get out of this tarnished city and gain some ground in my ventures. Oh, but i will no doubt have made the woman mad, i suppose i should set up a counter measure should she seek revenge, as they all do.
Taking a brisk moment to contemplate, he holds out his left arm as the attached mechanism begins to whirl and hum with its routine noises. Increasing the atmospheric pressure on a selection of air, Romulus condenses the molocules as tight as one could without altering the air beyond its density. When finished, a invisible wall stands between him and Leeith, one that's resistance would mimic that of a stone structure of similar build. With his barrier in place, and a smirk in his face, Romulus turns away and begins to find his way out of the city.

To say Leeith had been surprised when the strange man had somehow moved her down the road was an understatment. For a brief second she'd experienced the panic and fear of not being in control. Thankfully she quickly regained control of her emotions, before the man had seen her lapse, she hoped. Where his technology had been strange and amusing beforehand, now it presented a threat to her, as did he. She unsheathed her scimitars and dashed towards the man... Only to smash into an invisible wall with the grace of an egg yolk splattering on the floor. She stood in shock for a moment before changing her plan and reaching out to touch the wall with two fingers, running along one side untill she found the edge. No wall could go on forever, nor did this one. When she found the edge she leapt to a nearby rooftop, using the air to push her up and land silently and continues running towards the man, staying out of his sight when she could to avoid him using the strange machinery on her again.

Upon hearing the crude thud that was Leeith running into his barrier, he turned back to face her and snickered as she recovered and began to search for a way around it. But his jocular attitude didn't hold for long, as the woman fleeing from his sight once again made him the prey in this unpleasant situation. Catching a glimpse of her as she dashed on the roofs of the half demolished homes, Romulus quickly held his hand out, his mind reacting in a panic as he mentally fumbled through his formulas and calculations.
As the machine on his hand reacts to his thoughts, the building he spots Leeith on begins to shake in a rhythmic fashion, as the Alternator causes a steady amplitude matching the buildings mechanical resonance, causing it to literally shake itself apart. But noticing the quick flash of steel moving across another rooftop once again puts Romulus into a panic, as he realizes he's not yet fast enough with his calculations to match the woman's speed.
Quickly warping himself several meters away, he wracks his already nerve wracked mind to try and come up with a counter measure.
Damn it! I need to think of something simple, something that involves a simple change, the altering of but one simple coefficient or overt trait that can get her off the roof.
Pondering frantically as beads of sweat begin to run down his forehead, he swallows hard as he once again holds his hand out. "God, i hope this works," he mutters in a nervous tone as the Alternator begin to hum.
As Leeith leaps to another roof, Romulus alters the structures coefficient of friction, causing the building to become slick like ice, offering no traction through natural means.

Leeith had been preparing to leap to the other side of the street when the rooftop beneath her became slippery. Her feet slid out from under her and she landed on the back, knocking the breath from her. Her momentum kept her going forward, untill she reached the edge of the roof and fell from it, still trying to process what had happened. She barely got her wits about her in time to manipulate the air to cushion her fall, though she still landed on her back. After half a second to catch her breath and rolled quickly, getting to her feet. She had underestimated this hero- a mistake she wouldn't make twice. He depends on that machine, she observed So I must not give him the chance to use it, and destroy it if I get the chance. She advanced again, this time slowly, her scimitars held in front of her defensively.

Much to his surprise, Romulus' maneuver was a success, and in more ways than one. Not only did he get her rid of her high ground advantage, but he also seemed to have made her wary, putting her on the defensive. But her advancing was a new problem that needed to be attended to, but Romulus' slight advantage had instilled a new kind of confidence that allowed his mind to no longer be hindered by panic, though proverbial butterflies still fluttered about in his stomach.
Slowly backing away, Romulus looks at the environment, trying to discover some element that he can use to his advantage. He knows well enough that he needs to maintain his distance, but he also needs to remain creative, or else he tactics would become predictable and easily countered. Glancing around, nothing sparked his creative nature, that is until he eyes glanced at the blades that Leeith held in either hand.
Holding his hand out, his being connects with the structure of one scimitar at a time, instantly granting him complete knowledge of the item. The first Scimitar was subject to a formulaic alteration to its integral formula of magnetism, equalizing the two side of the equation to cause a strong magnetic vector field to be emitted from the blade. The other Scimitar is granted the same change as the former, but also receives an alteration to its dipole, changing it's polarity, and subsequently, the attraction of it's magnetic field, causing the two blades to be drawn to each other.
Hoping that the alteration will make her weapons unwieldily, Romulus begins to work through his formula for a massive spatial tear, one that will allow him to teleport away from his confrontation with the violent woman.

Leeith's eyes widened again as her blades came together with a sharp 'Clang', forcing her to release them or get her fingers caught between. Quickly she caught them before they hit the ground, and tried to pry them apart. When she looked up again, returning some of her attention to the man, he was gone. Dammit, she thought as she finally seperated them, the effect seeming to wear off. She looked around, trying to see if he was anywhere nearby, but there was no sign of him. After a few moments, she departed the Forsaken City, headed for Crepusculum.
