Maelie roared angrily and blocked each of Vincent's attacks with her own powerful strokes. "So be it!" she screamed as she quickly twirled around and swung her energy-charged blade upwards at Vincent with incredible speed.
Lilith frowned at her sister getting involved in this. While they had their swordfight, she backed away as the trees in the area loomed threateningly over Vincent, an army of roots exploding from the ground just as the long branches from overhead lunged at him to aid Maelie.

It was almost as though it had happened in the speed of light - Vincent sidestepped to try to avoid Maelie's swing but her blade sliced from his cheek over his eye and up the left side of his forehead. He yelled out in pain and as if having one side of his face covered in blood wasn't enough, he felt the branches of those annoying trees taking stabs at him, too.
"ARRGGHHH!!" Vincent angrily screamed, seeing just how ugly this was going to get. They weren't fighting to defend anything, they were fighting just to kill him - as he probably should have expected no less from the Sumata, anyway.
Getting ugly himself, Vincent backed up and swung his sword around, charging the blade with fire magic. He stabbed it into the ground in front of Maelie, and a massive wave of fire erupted from the ground, stretching high up like a wall, exploded all around him - frying the roots and other plantlife around him.
Any and all other plants that came to Lilith or Maelie's rescue were also met with the same fate as their tree friends - a good handful of fire, and lots of it. Vincent slashed down at the grass in the area and as it burned away itself, it caught onto the other greenery in the area. Slowly but surely, the fire became unstoppable as it spread mercilessly in the forest, stretching out past the Mother Tree area, even.

Maelie let out another rage-filled scream as Vincent's attack blew into her and she herself was burned. She looked around at the dying plantlife and she lunged straight at Vincent in a mad frenzy, slashing away at whatever she could on him.
Lilith let out a scream when she saw the fires start and she froze. Her eyes widened and her lips trembled and she couldn't even hear what was going on between Maelie or Vincent. The only thing she could hear were screams, painful screams coming from her 'lovelies' as they died a fiery death. Each of them pleaded for her to help them, and she had nothing she could do for them.
She covered her head with her hands and bent over, closing her eyes. She could only hear screaming, could only smell smoke, and could only see the flames devouring her life...
"Maelie...Maelie!"
Lilith opened her eyes and screamed. It was only a little over ten years ago that she saw this scene, so similar to now. Lilith was still watching her from afar as Maelie then battled a dark-haired man with a flaming blade of his own, and she watched now as the bleeding, blond man now attacked Maelie with incredible power.
It was the same thing that night, the forest was burning, people were dying, and those people took their parents away from them. Not through the battle itself, but through the illness they suffered after inhaling poison that was released in the forest that night.
She breathed heavily and found herself unable to do much more.

Vincent blocked another attack of Maelie's before he twirled his sword around and sliced at her side.
It was hard, he couldn't see anything out of his one eye, the place was engulfed in flames and smoke, and Maelie was moving just as fast as he was.
Through the clouded scene, though, he managed to lunge again at Maelie, throwing a powerful stab at her.

Maelie didn't see it coming - how could she had seen it coming? Pitch black, smoke everywhere, and at the last second a sword stabbing her in the chest. She let out a choked cry and dropped her own sword, her hand rising to feel the wound and all of her warm blood spilling down her front and all over the ground. Her eyes were wide, she looked like she was going to be sick.

Vincent was able to pause for a moment. Either everything was moving really slowly right now, or that Lilith witch wasn't attacking him anymore. He had no longer been attacked by any trees or shrubs (or whatever she felt like throwing at him), and to top it off...the other girl was dying on his sword.
He quickly pulled his sword out of her body and looked around, breathing a bit heavily himself. He saw Lilith still by the Mother Tree but not well enough to know what she was doing. The place around them was ablaze, he couldn't see, he was poisoned....no, it was time to ditch. And quick.
Through the fire and the flames thick smoke, Vincent ran out of the forest.

((lame jokes ftw! XD))
Maelie fell straight to the ground when Vincent released his sword, and she remained still as her body paled and turned cold.
Lilith's eyes widened as she watched Maelie fall and Vincent run away. She took a few steps forward, shakily bringing her hands to her cheeks.
"Maelie! Maelie!!!" she screamed, but was unable to hear her own cries over those of the trees ringing in her ears. She ran towards her sister and dropped by her body, feeling and listening for any sign of life. She found none, and Lilith's eyes stung with tears as she let out the most agonizing scream and hugged her sister's body close.
Lilith made no motion to escape, and eventually help came for them. No one saw where Vincent went, however, and at the moment Lilith didn't care. Her only remaining family member was dead, and just as she watched her parents, she watched Maelie die, too. She didn't even have a lot of her plants at the moment, a lot of them died in the fires, too.
There was one person she had left, though, and that person was the only thing she wanted at the moment. When anyone asked, she merely told them she was going out on a trip and she'd be back.
And she headed for Vuoto.
