He could hear Tidus' heartbeat increase, see his muscles tense, and he put his hands up in a gesture of non-threat.
"Whoah, whoah, I'm not here to fight you guys! Just 'cause I'm a vampire doesn't mean I wanna kill you or anything. Honestly, I'm not even hungry. I'm just here to figure out what you're doing here, that's all. Heroes like yourselves - I'm assuming that's what you are, anyway - don't usually come out here. Really too dark for most of you light-dwellers."

He sighed. "Yeah, I know. But I'm telling the truth. I'm also curious about the Warrior over there, and why someone like him finally came back to Nerezza after so many hundreds of years. Milady wasn't even born yet when last a Black Moon Warrior lived here, in Nerezza... and that says a lot." He shrugged. "But whatever, you don't have to believe me."

"Oh, I am so fed up with that story!" He roared as he turned around and walked toward Vaan. "You know who was the last person that told me about the black moon? The elder that gave me this sword, right before his head was chopped off." He said as he pulled out his sword, as dark as night.
"I am a normal berserker!"

Vaan's eyes snapped to the sword, and he felt it, felt the power, felt the beauty, felt the strength of it. He couldn't help himself. He dropped off his seat and stepped toward it, his face a mask of awe.

Volkmar watched as the vampire walked closer, he stepped back. He put his sword away, "What was that about, Vaan?" He asked him, "If you say it has to do anything with the black moon, and I will hit you."

Volk did not swing at him, but he wanted to. After a half second thought, it was not worth it to punch him. He turned and walked away, saying "Bye, Vaan."

"Hey, wait!" He started to catch up with the man. "Look, I'm sorry. I did get a little over-excited. The truth is, I was sent to protect you guys. Well, not you guys in particular, but pretty much any Hero who crossed into Nerezza. There's a lot of stuff in here that's not very friendly to lightdwellers and look, the White Moon's setting!"
He pointed to the moon, low on the horizon.
"Pretty soon, neither of you will be able to see worth a darn, and when you can't see, you can't make it to safety."

"Of course. That's my job. I take care of Striders, I send messages, and I escort important people through Nerezza. My lot in life." He shrugged - despite the seemingly disparaging words, he sounded content with what he did. "Don't worry - there's a town not too far from here called Elison."

Tidus folded his arms and thought about it, he wasn't sure if he should trust him. What would Yuna do...? Yuna...what was she doing right now?
Phh, probably in the sack with someone else...hell maybe with a vampire.
