Warning: The following story may contain inside jokes, vampire bites, failed romance and pyrokinetic flowers. It may not be suitable for anyone lacking a sense of humor.
The next few days were normal. Well, as normal as Crepusculum High School got. Katrin had gone to a football game and learned that the school's mascot was some kind of cat-human hybrid called a 'Mageian'. There were several of them with different colored fur and weird names like 'Caramel', 'Kaku', 'Figment', 'Saffron' and 'Tavarius'. Their costumes sure looked real, though...
There were other weird things she noticed too- like a few classrooms disappearing for hours at a time, one kid even carried a sword around for a day, and one time during gym class Katrin could've sworn she'd seen Andy's arm bleeding, but when she saw him again two seconds later he was fine.
Still, she continued going to her classes, not really having any other choice.
The art class had moved on from self portraits to themed projects- the students were allowed to use any artistic method they wanted. Some people were doing sculpting, r painting, sewing, even abstract art. Faeylinn had switched into her art class- with Vaan following soon after- and she was using photography as her art form. Vaan spent most of the classes staring at Faeylinn when she wasn't looking- using watercolors to paint when she was.
Today they were supposed to be focusing on contrast and shadows, and Faey had somehow talked Miri into modeling for her- come to think of it, she was pretty shadowy, in a way... Vaan had come into class late, looking a lot paler than usualwhich is saying a lot. He began painting like normal, after getting an earful from Elexa about getting to school on time, but seemed to be staring at Faeylinn a lot more than he typically did which is also saying a lot.
Faey was busy trying to get Miri to pose in a certain way- claiming the 'focus would be more distinct in comparison to the background'- when she realized she'd left her camera at her seat. She went back to get it, passing Vaan as she did so. The next few seconds seemed to go in slow motion.
Katrin watched in horror as Vaan stood and grabbed Faey, pulling her closer and biting her neck. "OH MY GOD!!!" Katrin shouted. The rest of the class looked up momentarily, then returned to their work, shrugging it off. Elexa calmly went over to them and pulled Vaan away from Faeylinn.
"Now Vaan, you know better than that. Your biting habits are yours to choose on your own time, but it is entirely inappropriate for the classroom." Vaan looked horrified, "I am so sorry Faey! I didn't mean to- I missed breakfast and I lost control!"
Faeylinn, holding a hand over the still-bleeding bite on her neck, seemed a bit out of it. "I think I need to go to the nurse..."
"Katrin," Elexa said, "Please escort Faeylinn to the nurse's office." Katrin nodded dumbly, and followed Faey to the door. She was too busy staring at the little bit of blood at the corner of Vaan's mouth to pay attention to where she was going and walked right into the door frame. Miri grinned at her, "Walk much?"
They walked down the hall in silence for a moment before Katrin asked, "Uh, what the heck just happened?" "Oh, Vaan just missed breakfast again." Faey shrugged it off with a vague gesture of her hand.
Katrin couldn't see what this had to do with him biting her. "So..?"
Faey gave her a 'duh' look. "So he's a vampire."
Katrin stopped short, blinking. "Oh, you're joking, haha, very funny." Faey rolled her eyes. "Actually, no, I'm not for once. He really is a vampire." Katrin thought about this for a few seconds, then said, "Hunh." and continued walking.
"So... You two are together?" Faey looked wistful as she replied. "I wish. But there's no way a guy like him would be interested in... Well, in me." She shook her head sadly.
Katrin was confused, "But what about the love notes?" Faey stared at her blankly, "What love notes?"
The door to the nurse's office- they'd gotten there a lot quicker than Katrin had thought they would- and a woman dressed entirely in white waved them in. "Come in, Faeylinn. I was expecting you."
Faey smiled sheepishly at the elegant woman, "You expect everything Profeta- one of the perks to seeing the future, aye?" Profeta quickly cleaned and bandaged Faeylinn's neck, then sent them back to class. They returned just in time to get their things for the next class.
By History class Faeylinn seemed entirely recovered- the bandage was gone and there wasn't even a mark on her neck where she'd been bitten. The class was particularly rowdy today- students were giving presentations on the weapons of different cultures.
Tidus was explaining how the African and South American peoples sometimes used poisoned darts. "... So they would insert the dart on one end, aim, and then blow."
The class was silent for half a second, none daring to laugh knowing Hala Loque hated to have her class interrupted. But there was a snicker from the back of the class, and their ancient teacher spoke up, "That's what she said." The students gaped at her until sh snapped, "What?! I'm old, not dead!"
Halfway through Lana's math class- if it could even be called her class, Koichi taught more that she did- the speakers crackled to life. Principal Damnedblood's voice boomed throughout the school. "I look forward to seeing you all at the dance tonight!"
Katrin seemed to be the only one confused, but quickly found out that the school was holding a free welcome-back dance that night.
She met up with Faey and Miri in the hallway after class to discuss the dance and make plans. Katrin saw Kevin shove some orange and red flowers into Vaan's hand before shoving him in their direction.
"Um, hi Faeylinn." He seemed very nervous, but Faey didn't seem to notice as she beamed at him, "Hi Vaan!" "Um, I, uh, got you these flowers, ah, to make up for... Um, yea.." Faey blushed- ever so slightly- and took the flowers. "That's so sweet of you Vaan! You really didn't have to..."
[Drawing courtesy of Miri. Hopefully I'll be able to post a better one when I can get to a working scanner, not a cell phone camera]
The flowers burst into flames right in Faey's hand. "Ow!" Faey yelled, dropping the flowers and shaking her hand as Miri quickly stomped out the fire.
"I AM SO SORRY!" said Vaan, looking panicked, "I had no idea that would happen!" In between trying to convince her it wasn't on purpose he shot deathglares at Kevin, who was laughing his butt off at the whole thing.
"Oh, man, I am so sorry, this is definitely not how I meant to ask you to the dance." Faey blinked, surprised, "You were going to ask me to the dance?" Vaan nodded sheepishly.
"I'll go with you on one condition..."
"Anything!"
"Don't bring me any more flowers!"
Thank you, thank you. I hope you guys enjoyed it. And special thanks to Miri for drawing the picture!
And what will happen at the dance? Find out in part four, coming... Well, dunno when. Whenever I decide to type it up, but it's coming!
