Sonorc walked toward the town of Stagerila, trying to think of a way to convince Bart to join them. He just needed more time to think how to get Bart to side with them. So, by hiring him, it provided the time and to make sure Bart was close to him.
It was almost getting dark, when they reached to Stagerila. Sonorc looked at the town, then noticed that there was black smoke coming from the town. "What?!" Sonorc said as he looked, galloping over to the town, and then he saw the flag. Duo's damn flags, fluttering in the wind. "Crap, Kain, Duo's Army is here!" He said as he pulled out his dagger.

"They're ahead of schedule," Kain cursed, "Apparently they bashed Roccia's army faster than I calculated!"
Kain drew his blade, "There is no way we can fight the entire army, but we can hold them off to help the villagers escape!" The other Saints were to far off to summon, they would have to fight them off alone, "Bartholomew, will you please help us?"

Bart nodded, and took the sword off his back. He ran into 2 soldiers, and stab his sword into one of the soldiers. He they spun around and kicked the other soldier down. He shoved the person off of the sword, and then stabbed the person on the ground.
He held the sword over his head, and shouted, "Bankai, 003!" There was an explosion of smoke, then Bart was held an odd shaped 3 part weapon. He started to spin it, sending waves of fire at the soldiers.

Kain had already known about his abilities from the moment he made eye contact with him, so he didn't wait a moment when Bart used his Bankai. Kain rushed into the village, flames growing into an unsafe level as Duo's troops trampled over the small village.
"Enough!" Kain activated his quick-moving technique and killed all of the soldiers in sight. As more soldiers rushed into the village they quickly became aware of the Saints presence, turning their attention to Kain, Barts and Sonorc. "We just need to buy a little time!"

"Right." Sonorc shouted, as he did a chant, and made some ice barriers. They were weak with the heat and little water in the air, but he made some walls. "Kain, you better hurry!" He shouted to Kain, trying to keep the walls up.

"Right!" Kain yelled slashing past a couple more, everyone in the village were beginning to make their escape. It was time for them to do the same.
"Alright, begin to retreat!" Kain ordered, using his quick blade technique and taking out a dozen more.

Bart swung his weapon making wave after wave of fire towards the soldiers. "Damn weeds..." He said, as he took Kain's advice, and jumped away from the town.

Kain knew that they hadn't even damaged Duo's offense, or even bought time, that village would soon be stumped away... he feared that the villagers would not move fast enough.
It was out of his hands however, he still needed to complete his group and Kain was tired of tiptoeing around this man. Once they got a good distance away from the army Kain whipped around and grabbed Barts.
"Do you see now?" Kain asked with a tone of authority that all the other Saints would recognize as when Kain was dead serious, "This is no longer an option of fighting if you feel like it; we are fighting for our existence now."
It was pretty clear Bart was someone who responded to a figure with power, someone to challenge his dominance in the battlefield... Kain doubted there were much able to do so, which is why Kain was perfect for this.

Bart stared at the town, and then his sword turned back into his original shape. He slung it on it's back and considered what Kain said, and then he looked forward. "Alright, I will join you, but I still want to be paid."
Sonorc smiled, and said, "Since you join the group, I'll let our leader pay for it."

"If that's what it takes," Kain nodded, "Welcome to the Saints, Bartholomew." Kain still had great riches from being a Prince of Unda, having stored them in many places around the world, he could tap different revenues when needed.
Kain turned around and began to walk off, "We should get moving back to the group, we need to get some distance away from the army..." This was one more step in the right direction, Kain had nearly completed his goal on building a group strong enough to resist Duo, within a couple months he would be ready to take on Duo with all the force he needed...
