1004 years until present day...
Braena Woods was a most unusual forest, and like this country it all seemed dead... except at this point when it was filled with beautiful flowers, a direct contrast to the dark, dead looking woods it grew on.
These few moments of peace was something anyone could appreciate, for Guasto itself was in the middle of being occupied by Duo's forces. In mere moments this beautiful scene was suddenly uninterrupted when two soldiers approached the forest, dragging a man behind him.
"Alright, alright," the two men growled as they dragged him towards the forest.
"You... can't... do this... to me..." the man moaned, his breath reeked of alcohol and his long, messy hair was unclean and rather disgusting looking.
"Yeah?" one of the men laughed as they tossed him into a puddle of mud, "Lord Duo ordered it himself!"
The man rolled into the mud, caking his right side of his body in the wet, cool substance. Turning quickly the man spat out at them, "Yeah, well screw Duo! I'm Kain Angelo, his goddamn brother! I do-" he tried to get up but he simply slipped on the mud.
"Yeah, yeah, you can come back once you're sober..." one of the soldiers said as they walked away.
"....right..." Kain scoffed, leaning against one of the trees, "Not if I can help it..." He laughed to himself, sipping what was left in the bottle. It didn't even occur to him that someone else was in the forest, approaching swiftly.

A man was walking into the woods, hiding himself from one of the noble families that he might have stolen a precious heirloom from them, a ring with a rare kind of gem inside of it. "Hehe, no one can catch me, I am the best thief of all of Allorum!" He said, but then he tripped over a drunk in the woods.
"AUGH MY HIP! You damn whippersnapper, why would you trip an old man?"

Kain was between passing out and attempting to sip his now-mud-filled drink when someone ran right into him, causing whomever to run into Kain to trip. Kain stumbled to his feet, slipping out Mani-Katti he waved it around aimlessly, "W-whippersnapper!? Don't you know who I am!? I am Kain... Angelo..." He stumbled a bit more before toppling right onto Sonorc.

"Kain Zangelo? Who is that?" Sonorc asked as he tried to stand up, but he lean against a tree. "Damn... I think you broke it..." He pulled out a dagger, and started to unscrew the top, "So why is a drunk out here in the woods?"

"Eh...?" He questioned, glancing up at the man, "I'm no drunk... clearly I'm patrolling the forest under order by 'the great lord Duo'!" he grumbled while getting up, balancing himself against a tree, "And what are YOU doing out here...?"

"Can't an old man take a walk in the forest before going to the other side?" He asked him as he finally opened the dagger's hilt. He poured the sand on his hip, and then he squeezed the hilt until blade and his hip started glowed. After a second or 2 the glowing stopped and Sonorc stood up. "Well I got to go. Bye!" He said as he started to walk away from Kain.

"H-hold it!" Kain yelled, reaching out and grabbing the man, "You're not going anywhere just yet... perhaps I should just bring you to Duo and let him see if you're telling the truth. What are you really doing out here?" Kain couldn't focus very well, but he was attempting to make eye contact with the old man so he could find out just who he was.

"What are you talking about?" Kain said, trying his best not to fall down from the push, "We are saving the world, bringing order to it... we're the saviors, not tyrants..." Kain shook his head defiantly.

"By the gods, boy have you been in these woods the entire times?" He asked him, "Do you think he is cleaning the lands? Only one that is sheltered, can say that is truth, follow me if you want to see Duo for what he really is." He said as he started to walk in another way.
"I know you won't like what you see."

"..." Kain didn't want to believe what this man was saying, but it didn't seem like he was lying to him ether, "Alright... I'll see what you wish to show me." He stumbled a bit before getting himself under control and he began to follow the man.

Sonorc stood outside of the woods, as there was a pile of bodies and people dug massive holes to put their bodies in, treating them as garbage. "I might be a Ghiaccio Thief, but I can tell that this isn't not right, and only a tyrant could perform this." He told Kain.

Play Two Steps from Hell: HurtKain couldn't believe what he saw, miles and miles of bodies just thrown on top of each other. Soldiers dragged dead bodies and just tossed them in. "What... what is this?" Kain asked, taking a deep breath of air. Sonorc didn't have a chance to answer Kain for aloud ear piecing scream echoed throughout the area. Two soldiers dragged two bodies over to the pit, a man and a woman, followed behind them was a crying little girl, probably seven or nine years of age. She was screaming at the soldiers, tears running down her face as she begged for them to let her now dead parents go. They did just that, turning their attention to the girl one of them raised their lance, and in mere seconds it had pierced the young body. "NO!" Kain yelled as the blade struck the girl. Kain fell back at bit, attempting not to fall over from sheer shock, "I-i-it can't be... how could this be happening... how..."

"I told you that ya wouldn't like what I would show you." Sonorc said, as he cringed as the girl was killed, "Duo is just a man of carnage. Killing for the sake of killing, just horrible."

Kain stumbled out of hiding as the guards left the girl's body, Kain collapsed right next to it.
"Why...?" He asked, looking at the young girls motionless face. Kain had been lying to himself all along, he got hints of what was really going on but he always ignored them instead he just drank away his concerns. Picking up the girls body he suddenly stood up. Looking back at Sonorc, "Thank you for this... but now I must go. Someone has a lot to answer for."
Kain turned around and began to walk back to the village, he wanted answers from Duo and if he didn't give Kain those answers he would force them out.
He made his way into the village. Soldiers patrolled the entire village, kicking down doors, burning any house they pleased. How did Kain ignore all of this for so long?
He approached a bar which was being used as the HQ for their highest ranking officers, pushing open the door he entered. Everyone turned to see who entered, their faces shocked and disgusted at what they saw.
Kain, soaked in mud and blood carried the dead little girl into the bar, his face angered and disgusted.
"Look at this!" He yelled, grabbing whomever hadn't looked at him already, "Look at what we've done!"
A couple of the officers laughed a bit, others turned away in disgust or shame. Kain walked over to one of the men who laughed and practically shoved the girl into his face.
"LOOK!" the man who had laughed quickly became silent as Kain went from person to person, "Look at her, she's a little girl! AND WE KILLED HER!"
At this point no one spoke, it was Kain going from person to person, demanding that they look at the little girl in her eyes. Suddenly a powerful, dark voice called from over to the side, the shadows covering the figure.
"We're looking, Kain!" The voice called, "But what is it that you want us to look at?"
The man sat up from his chair and slowing began to walk towards Kain.
"Duo..." Kain growled.
"So tell me, Kain, you ask us to look..." he questioned as he approached Kain, "but all I see is a poor little casualty of war."
"She's not just a casualty!" Kain barked back, "She's a human! SHE'S A HUMAN!"
"And?" He laughed while glancing from officer to officer. They laughed along with him, despite the intense environment, "Brother, get rid of that body and get some rest. You clearly need it."
He motioned for two guards to once again take Kain away.
"NO!" Kain yelled, whipping out Mani-Katti, "For a long time my vision has been blurred and distorted... but right now my vision is clear, AND I CAN SEE THE MONSTER YOU TRULY ARE!"
The two guards attempted to grab Kain, they didn't even get to grab him for they fell down to the ground, two gashes across their chest.
Everyone sprang to life, reaching for their swords to fight Kain. Rushing past Duo almost a dozen or so men dueled him at once.
"Kain... you foolish boy." Duo said as he began to walk away, seemly expecting his brother to fall in combat to those men.
Kain fought every soldier there while holding the dead body of the girl, strike after strike Kain easily cut down everyone of those men.
"DUO!" Kain's voice stopped Duo in his place, he turned to look at his brother, standing above the dead bodies which were his officers.
"Impressive, brother, impressive..." He clapped, "But you're forgetting who you're up against..."
Suddenly the entire room was filled with an immense pressure, in fact, the entire village began to bend to his will, the clouds in the sky began to twist and shape.
"It's a shame that you have to die here... Kain," Duo smiled, raised his hand, and fired one single bolt of darkness right to Kain.
