Name: Donovan Siroaki
Description: A man who keeps fit and lean but is not bulky or incredibly strong by any definition. Stands about 6'4" and weights about 160 pounds. The tall, tan and handsome type with short, mussed-up black hair, dark shades, brown open fingered gloves, a red open Hawaiian t-shirt and black creased slacks.
Age: 38
History: Having made his life on gambles and bets, Donovan played a very dangerous game in creating his cozy lifestyle. Each gamble could have either advanced his luxurious life or driven him to ruin, but his luck continued to bless him each and every time, driving up his power and influence in the world.
Eventually certain organizations started to catch wind of Donovan and his growing influence and sought to create relations with him so as to further their own growth. Being an untrusting man, Donovan denied wanting to have any relation with the underworld and it's dark dealings for fear that he would be betrayed by the syndicates once they ran out of use for him. Most groups accepted this and sought other business ventures, but his experience with the Yakuza did not go as well.
Upon denying them his assistance, he was shot and killed for fear that he would use his influence to drive them off the streets of Shibuya. But Donovan's life did not end there as he thought it would.
Awakening at the Scramble Crossing in Shibuya, Donovan soon came to realize that he had been dropped into a reality that existed on top of Shibuya known as the UG. Here people who had died had a chance to come back to life if they survived a game consisting of missions spanning 7 days against other humans who had grown to become Reapers; those who sought to destroy players during their missions for another chance at life.
The only cost was to give up what was most precious to the player, in Donovan's case, his luck that had been responsible for all of his success. To survive the game he was forced to make a pact with a boy named Zeke Omiohake and they managed to battle their way through each day with the use of their psyches; a power that spawned from the player’s imagination through a medium that means something significant to them.
Their story took an unusual turn when the 7th and last day came with their mission being “Save the World in the Shibuya River; Time Limit: NONE”. The hint led Donovan and Zeke to the Shibuya sewers. It was here they saw a strange portal that led them to the world of Crepusculum. For whatever reason their psyche, as well as the cost they paid in the game remain in the new world, and in order to win the game and their lives back, Donovan and Zeke must find the key to saving the world.
Personality: A man who never shows his hand, whether it be in a game or in real life. Presenting himself as a laid back, smooth talking joker, Donovan never really lets his true colors show; those being that of an untrusting misanthrope. Not trusting the inadequacies and illogical actions of humans, Donovan only trusts his luck to lead him through whatever life throws at him. Though this has led Donovan to be successful and lucrative in the business aspect of his life, it has meant that his existence has been one of solitude and loneliness. His time spent with Zeke has started to change his view of people, especially now that he is without his luck, but he still doesn't trust anyone besides Zeke.
Alignment: Bad, but teetering slowly towards good.
Equipment: His 7 lucky decks that rest in his belt. Each one a different deck of choice depending on what card game he's playing.
Magic: Upon entering the UG, a special link was formed between Donovan and his decks, allowing him to channel his imagination through them as a medium to manipulate the cards within as he sees fit. This includes the ability to change the tensile resistance of the cards allowing them to become as hard as steel or mailable as paper, having the cards become razor sharp, having them hold together as if connected by some unseen adhesive and a very minor level of telekinetic control over them. Having only had this power for a short period of time, Donovan has yet to realize the true potential of it and is still coming up with new tricks and maneuvers.
Combat: Having been given his power since entering the UG, Donovan has been learning to use his cards as an offensive medium. Relying on his ingenuity as a means of landing strikes, rather than strength or speed, he fights in a defensive manner and plays the opportunist, waiting for his opponent to slip up before he attempts an attack. When attacking he either combines his cards to form a creative method of offense, makes them razor sharp and takes quick swings at his opponent or makes them into razor sharp throwing weapons. When paired up with Zeke, Donovan plays a more defensive roll and relies on Zeke to deliver the punishing blows as he deflect any oncoming attacks.
NOTE: This is a character that is really part 1 of 2. Considering the nature of the characters and the source material they are based on, both Donovan Siroaki and Zeke Omoihake will ask to be accepted as a set. Secondly, for anyone who is unsure of any concepts described here, the parallel dimension of Shibuya and the Reaper Game is all based on “The World Ends With You” for the Nintendo DS. The characters made are totally original but based off the world laid out by SquareEnix’s creation.
