PART 3
Carter was a man of late 40s, serving the Ketulunanox thrown for about 25 years, serving under Queen Gravs and now King Tyrmond. His dark brown has been thinning for a while and now he just has the hair on the sides of his head, showing off his age. However, no matter how old he looked, he still ran pretty good, as he bolted north in the city looking for the house of Sol Lunarson, the Brightmoon knight, and Keturia Cygni, the Steelmoon Knight. He ran to the large manor, and when he was about to knocked the door swung open, and stood a person cloaked in brown. The person’s face was covered, but some strains of white hair stood out. The person’s left hand revealed the Steelmoon crest. Carter took a step back as the sudden appearance surprised him, but he quickly bowed to the person.
“Madame Cygni, Lord Tyrmond needs your assistance.” Carter said with high respect.
“Yes… Lord Xiza will need our help. Especially if what I sense is truly what I sense.” Keturia said as she walked out. “Sol come along.”
“I don’t want too. It’s late,” A voice said in the building, “You handle it.”
“Wow, I never knew a hero to be this lazy.” She remarked calmly.
“Fine…” Sol said, a few seconds later, a man came out. Sol was dressed in a white open vest revealing his chest and stomach. Right over his belly button was the Brightmoon crest. He had am armor plating over his right arm that covered from his shoulder to his hand. Other than that, the only thing noteworthy was the gigantic war-hammer that he carried over his shoulder. He flicked his head back, to get his long blond hair out of his face, and sighed, “Alright, so who is dumb enough to attack us?”
“It’s not so much as who, as what.” Keturia said as she started to walk down the steps.
The two lunar knights ran to the south where Xiza was fighting, and left Carter in the dust. Carter would have gladly stayed there, if he wasn’t order to return. Carter was skilled in lunar healing arts, so he figured that is why he needed to return to help tend to any and all wounds. Carter then ran after Keturia and Sol.
“So, if it’s not a person, what is it? What is dumb enough to attack us?” Sol asked as he looked at Keturia.
Roy ran towards the center of town, running as fast as he could to the guard station. He burst right inside of the building and slammed his hands on the desk.
“Where is the captain of the guards?!” Roy asked in a rush.
The woman behind the desk was slightly shocked at the man’s yelling, “That would be Wolfwig Gamlxltoe.” She said calmly, as she stood up and walked towards the building. A few seconds later a man in a guard uniform walked out, “You asked to see me?”
“Yes, I need half your men to get the people out from around the East district and the other help King Tyrmond - we are being attacked.”
“Wait, you said east district?!” Wolfwig asked, his face paled for a moment. Even as he spoke there was a tint of concern in his voice. “R-Right away.”
Wolfwig pulled on a rope and the alarm was being rung, with a few minutes fifty or so guards stood at the ready. Wolfwig gave a small summary of what was happening “I’ll head the evacuation and I will take team Crescent to evacuated the people from the district, Team Gibbous you will follow Roy Avon to the center of East District to back up him and King Tyrmond. Also, protecting the citizens is a major priority.”
The men saluted as they separated into their own teams, Wolfwig then turned and asked Roy quietly, “Sir do you know who is attacking us?”
Roy shook his head, “I don’t know, it just had blue skin and fire around its head.”
“Wait… did it have bright eyes and teeth?”
“I think so… yes why?”
Wolfwig Gamlxltoe hesitated for a moment, “Well with the stories I tell my son, that describes a-”
“A Lunar Archdemon?” Sol asked as he looked at Keturia, “What the hell is that?”
“It is a powerful demon that was created back when we first became a kingdom, they are summoned from time to time for different reasons. The first was mad warlock fighting off Ingis soldiers, as he tried to defend the land from those savages, he summoned the archdemon - however he failed to controlled him and died. The archdemon is a powerful being, who attacks one’s soul, and can even rip the soul from the body. The last time I fought one of these was the fight that I lost my sight in.” Keturia said calmly, her hands went to her eyes for a moment...as if for a second she could see again.
“Didn’t see that coming, HAH!” Sol laughed at Keturia, she ignored that comment, “The archdemon has a tendency of attacking and stealing the strongest souls and ripping it out of them.”
“Then why am I going? I have a strong soul!” Sol protested.
“If we have many strong souls there then the king's soul should be protected, but we must hurry.” Keturia said, as she looked straight ahead, and dodged some barrels on her run.
“Hey, if you are blind, how can you dodge or fight?” Sol asked her as he jumped the barrels.
“I can spread out my aura and I can sense everything within my range, even stuff behind me.” Keturia said, “We are close.”
The Archdemon was slammed into the ground from the air, Xiza was coming down for the final blow, roaring from his Ketuberserk form. The demon opened up his mouth and it seem it was trying to talk, but in an inhuman language. Xiza stabbed him as he landed his blade right in his gut. As Sol and Keturia arrived on the scene, Keturia saw what happened next. She saw the Archdemon started to drain something from Xiza, into itself. After a little bit, the archdemon then laid down, and died. After that Carter finally caught up with Sol and Keutria, and he got his magic ready, “Do you need healing, milord?”
“Aww man! The Great Sol didn’t get to fight.” Sol said in sadness, lowering his hammer.
“I wouldn’t put your weapon down, Sol…” She said as she pulled out her dagger and held it in a ready position. Her dagger showed a lot of usage from the years and it bear the crest of the Steelmoon for the guard. Xiza stood over the body, and he stood there breathing, then Sol shouted at him,
“Okay we get it, you are almost as great as I am, sheesh.” Xiza then turned around his head still downward.
“Sol, pick up your hammer, now!” She shouted at him.
Xiza then raised his head, and shouted as it looked up at the moon, the roar alone created shockwaves breaking the nearby buildings to rubble. Sol rose up his hammer right in time, as Xiza bolted right towards him and he swung his sword at him. The strike made Sol fly backward into some rubble, Xiza turned towards Keturia and swung his sword down at her, but she blocked it with her dagger. She held it up, then sidestepped to make Xiza’s sword fall to the ground. She then swung her dagger at Xiza, but she struck his armor and made her stumbled backward. Xiza was about to cut her into two, but then Sol shouted, “Lunar Ray!” He fired a laser from the tip of the hammer and it smacked right into Xiza, sending him into a pile of rubble.
“Hey Keturia, what’s going on with the moon?” Sol asked as he pointed up.
“I don't know, I cannot see remember?” Keturia growled at him. “Describe it!”
“Sheesh,” Sol scoffed, “Well, it...it looks an eclipse...on one part of the moon.”
Keturia paused for a moment before she spoke, “Ketu and Luna, the twin goddesses are trying to make sure he doesn’t kill us, nor do we kill him. He is absorbing all of his energy from the moon, so if it goes into a Lunar eclipse, then he can’t fight any more, and pass out.” she said as she looked at the rubble, “Carter, you need to move.”
“Alright, Madame Ketu-” Carter started to say, but was cut off from the massive amount of pain from his stomach from Xiza’s sword. Carter tried to say something, but he couldn't make a sound as he fell to the ground.
Dead.
Xiza stood there, his sword covered in an aura as he charged it up, and he swung it down towards sending a massive arc towards Keturia. Keturia stood there, holding her dagger at the ready to blow the blast. Sol ran right in front of Keturia and his hammer was shinning and when he hit, the arc was sent backwards straight at Xiza, he dodged... but the blast went far north.
“Sol, you troglodyte!” Keturia shouted at Sol, “We need to prevent damage to the city at all cost!”
Sol just shrugged and looked at her, “We just need to take him down, and you were just letting that arc coming towards you, so I just used my Devolver deflect the attack back to him. Look, they are just evacuating the entire city.” Sol said as he gave chase Xiza.
Keturia just sighed and followed Sol.
Outside of the city, most of the people from the eastern district were walking towards the neighboring town of Celesileo. Many people were walking there as fast as they could, and one of the men walking out of the city, was the Lunar knight, Vash. He walked a half a mile outside of the city, when he heard a woman screaming. Vash looked, and there was a blond hair woman trying to walk back, but a guard stopped her from returning back.
“Ma’am, you need to keep walking.” The guard told her, “We aren’t allowing anyone to go back.”
“But you don’t understand! My son is still in the city!” She screamed, “I have to get him!”
“Ma’am, Get back in line!” The guard raised his voice to her.
“Whoa, whoa. No need to get mad here.” Vash said as he walked over to them, “Now, I know it is your duty, but can’t you make an exception for this one time?”
“I’m sorry, but Captain Gamlxltoe’s ord-“
“That’s my husband! I’m Fina Gamlxltoe!” Fina said as she pleaded with the guard, “He will let me go back into town to look for our son!”
“… I’ll send a message. What does he look like?” The guard sighed.
“Well he is about this tall.” Fina said as she put her hand to her waist, “He has silver hair, and he has a Lunar Crest.”
“A lunar crest, huh? Which one?” Vash asked out of curiosity.
“It’s the dark moon crest.” Fina said, “It has a crescent moon on top of another one, but it is in the shape of a backward S.”
”Sayara’s Lunar Knight!?” Vash thought as he spluttered, “You mean there is a new Darkmoon Knight?!”
“Yes, I-“ Fina started to say, then there was an explosion from the city.
“VOLKMAR!” She screamed as she tried to run to the city, Vash however quickly grabbed her – preventing her from running in or getting hit. She struggled for a moment before panic and anxiety overtook her and she passed out in Vash's arms.
“Sir, can you carry her to town?” The guard asked as Vash picked up Fina, not waiting for the young man to answer he ran back to town.
“Yeah...” Vash answered, pretending that his opinion mattered. He looked at Fina as he carried her back to town, whispering to her even though she couldn’t her him. “Don’t worry… Sayara never picks a weak person to be her knight.”
Sol stood still as Xiza came dashing towards him. Xiza swung his sword down right through him, but Sol’s body exploded into dust. The fight had moved from the East to the South, and was now near the center of Lunatopia.
“He keeps going after my imposters, but I just can’t keep up. He is almost here, Keturia!” Sol shouted to Keturia. Xiza ran over to the real Sol with feral speed and when he raised his sword to him, Keturia jumped out and cut throught Xiza’s armor to his arm, drawing blood. Suddenly three golden blades hovered Xiza.
“Sorry, it takes a while for it to charge.” Keturia said as she kept dodging Xiza’s move, and still cutting Xiza. With every cut she made three more blades would appear above Xiza, until about ninety or so swords were above Xiza, Keturia jumped backward, and she stabbed the ground, while shouting, “Blade Downfall!” The swords then came down all at once, stabbing Xiza in many different ways. “Sol, now!”
Sol came running on a rooftop nearby, his hammer shining magnificent rays of light, making his hammer looking like a cylinder sun with the crescent moon imprints hovering around it. He jumped off of the building top and he swung his hammer down at Xiza as he shouted, “LUNAR JUSTICE!”
When the hammer hit, the cylinder shot upward, making a massive tower of light. Sol ran from the blast, carrying Keturia, since he was faster. “Geez, I guess I have to be your hero too.” Sol joked as he landed, Keturia scoffing and getting back on her own feet.
Once the explosion died down Sol and Keturia walked back inside the blast radius, looking for the king. “I’d be surprise if we find anything left of him.” Sol said as he looked at the damage. They finally walked to a depression made by both Keturia and Sol’s attacks.
“There’s nothing here...” Keturia said, “Let’s tell the guards.”
“Yeah... and look, only a quarter of the moon is covered.” Sol pointed upward.
“I have not seen the true moon in over thirty seven years.” Keturia said, not lifting her head upward. “I can see her energy sometimes, but that is it.”
There was silence in between the two of them until Keturia spoke, “Sol...describe the moon to me again please?”
Sol was about to make another wisecrack until he saw something, something that unmistakenly looks like tears coming from her bandaged eyes. He sighed and looked back upward, “Besides the part that is darkened...it looks like a giant jewel, it almost even looks like it's glittering. But then again, that's our moon...the only jewel that can sparkle in the darkness.”
The air echoed their sentiment as Keturia whispered, “It sounds beautiful...”
“Yeah, she is a bea-“ Sol’s praises to the moon were cut short when Xiza’s hand landed right on Sol’s gut.
“GRAVICANNON!” He shouted in his feral voice. Sol’s eyes widen as the blast took out a large chunk of him. Xiza let the body fall to the ground, Keturia let out a yell of rage and shock and rushed for him, knife ready and poised to kill...
However, when the blade touched Xiza, it was blasted back from his aura, sending the blade upward. Xiza just swung his sword right at Keturia’s neck. She fell to the ground, landing alongside Sol as her blade fell right next to her. The silence that hung over the air was a mournful and cruel one, Xiza merely rolled his head back and roared in the air as a celebration for his kills.
Wolfwig was helping with people get out of the city with the one way he knew how to: by punching chunks of large rubble off of some people. He stood near one of the Towers to the moon, the one his son was... the knight of Sayara. He then heard a familiar voice behind him, a voice that would normally bring joy, but in this Hellious, it could not. He looked over to the boy who was shouting ‘Pops’.
Wolfwig turned around and saw his son, still in the city, “VOLK!” he shouted in fear, not wanting his young son to die here. Wolfwig got on one knee as he got closer to his son one hand on his son's shoulder, “Volk! I need you to do me a favor. Take this and run away from here!”
He grabbed at the monument and pulled out a magnificent sword but he didn't pull it out all the way, he gently nudged his son over to the sword. “Grab it.”
Volkmar looked at his father in confusion (and worry) and grabbed the sword, tiny fingers enclosed around the blade and with a mighty tug he pulled the sword out with ease. “Run, run to the caves up north, and I will meet you there. Do not leave those caves!”
Volkmar hesitated for a moment, but his father's stern gaze compelled him to listen. Soon the boy was running north, dragging the sword alongside him. As Wolfwig watched his only son run farther and farther away a guard came behind him, “Sir, Sol and Keturia have died, and we have found out that King Xiza has been the one attacking the city!”
“What!? Why?” before the guard could answer Wolfwig stopped him, “Nevermind, it doesn’t matter. We need to take him down now, before he destroys the rest of the city!” He got up and ran to where Xiza stood.
The clanking of metal could be heard behind Xiza, as the Elite guard of Lunatopia wore a light metal of boots, as they lined up. The back row held spears as the front row had either a crossbow or a gun with one hand alongside a large shield. Wolfwig Gamlxltoe stood behind the fourteen men with his personal gun pointing at him.
“King Xiza Tyrmond, stop at once!” Wolfwig ordered, no response from the king. Wolfwig then yelled, “Just give up!”
Xiza looked over, and swung an arc to the guards. Wolfwig dodged the attacks, but half of his men were not as lucky, as the blast killed them. The other men stood up dazed from the hit they stood before the being that wiped out half their men in a single blast.
“Stay strong men!” Wolfwig encouraged, “We can beat him once we form a plan-”
“To Hellious with the plans!” one knight shouted, the others forming suit, “Charge!”
“No wait DON'T!” Wolfwig shouted in vain as his men charged at Xiza, hoping to gang up on him all at once.
Their king looked at the charging men...and leaped to the center of them, when he landed he swung his blade out – chopping down the fully armed men. Most of them were able to dodge a few moves, but in the end, they were cut into half. Once the knights were aware of what happened it was too late, Wolfwig could only watch in horror as the king decimated all his men. Swords broke through their finest armor, shields and helmets were bashed in from brute strength, and snaps were heard when they were foolishly within their king's reach. Now the only man left was Wolfwig, the last knight left alive. He stared at his fallen men and the king, bent over like an animal...destructive and hungry for more. He tightened his gun in his hand and said a silent prayer.
“Fina...Volkmar.” his family drifted into his mind for a fraction of a second, but he shoved it aside. He raised his gun at the out of the control king and fired, the magic bullets didn’t hit Xiza as he kept charging so Wolfwig decided to change his fighting style. When Xiza got close Wolfwig threw the gun at Xiza’s face, taking chance of Xiza's momentary stagger he launched his fist right at Xiza’s body as it was covered in his red aura. The blow hit but wasn’t much effect to Xiza, as the king swung his blade right at Wolfwig’s waist, luckily Wolfwig bent backward and dodged the sword. He raised his feet up and then squarely kicked Xiza in his face, making Xiza stagger backward. Xiza rubbed his chin and then roared at Wolfwig, making his aura bigger. The fight lasted a little longer, but then Xiza backhanded Wolfwig, making him fly into a wall. A large rock pinned Wolfwig legs to the ground he tried to push the rock off of his legs but Xiza came to him and stood above him, his sword now flowing with more of Xiza’s aura. He raised his blade and about to deliver the final blow to Wolfwig, but then a massive fireball smacked Xiza in the face, making him stagger. Roy then came in and hit Xiza away from Wolfwig.
“Let me knock out Xizzy, then I will help you.” Roy said as he looked at Wolfwig, “I’ll come back!” Roy ran over where Xiza stood. Roy didn’t stand in front of him as an enemy, but as a friend.
“Xiza, stop this! This isn’t you!” He shouted with his arms out to the side, “You would never do this! Stop, you wanted to change Ketulunanox for the better! Make us intertwine with Allorumians! THAT WAS YOUR PLAN!” Xiza stood there, and just roared at him.
“… I see. Xiza… I am the only one who can stop you.” Roy said as he got into an attack position. “Come at me!”
Xiza roared then came running at him and swung his sword at him, Roy easily deflected the strike and smacked him in the back of Xiza’s head with the staff of fire. “So predictable, just like our training days.”
Xiza turned around and preformed the same move again, however when Roy swung at the back of Xiza’s head, Xiza caught the staff, and tossed Roy about ten feet away from him. As Roy's mind returned to Allorum, Xiza was running over to him and swung the sword at Roy. Roy quickly raised his staff up, and blocked the blow. This sent Roy even farther, but he was eventually stopped by a sturdy building. He got up and thought to himself, Xiza was always the strongest, but I am quicker than he is. If I stop being defensive, and land more blows on him, I can activate my Lunar powers…
Roy saw Xiza coming towards him so Roy stood up, and prepared to attack. As soon as Xiza was close enough, Roy swung the staff at his face. After he landed that blow, he pulled the staff back and thrust it into Xiza’s chest and then he repeated the motion of stabbing the blunt staff into Xiza’s chest area. With each stabbing motion, the fire on Roy’s staff slowly covered it. It would burn a part of Xiza’s white armor, but it had no effect on Roy. Everytime Xiza would swing at Roy, he would duck and land more blows. The pair of Lunar Knights stood in the center of town, continuing their fight, as the moon was over ninety percent over, making a thin crescent moon. Roy’s entire staff was covered in fire forcing the Lunar knight of Fire to go into his berserk mode. His hair stood up on end, and his aura became massive in comparison with Xiza. Outside of the city a person could see their rivaling aura flaring over the city.
“XIZA, STOP NOW!” Roy said, pleading one last time to his friend, “WE CAN RUN FROM THIS! HIDE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE, WE CAN FORGET ALL OF THIS! DON’T MAKE ME KILL YOU!”
Xiza once more roared for his answer, sending along with a massive arc of energy toward him.
“I see…” Roy said as he spun his staff, making two fire dragons send to the arc. One of them collided with the arc, then the other one flew to Xiza. Xiza raised his sword to block the dragon, but it pushed him backwards, however Xiza swung his blade right though it making it disappears. As soon as he did that, Roy was above him, the end of his staff were massive balls of fire. He swung the first one down on Xiza, engulfing him in fire. Roy then spun around swinging the other ball of fire at Xiza. “Double Nova!” He shouted, the ball of fire expanded and then started to collapse.
Roy remembered the first time he used this move. It was a massive rockwyrm in Roccia. Roy was almost eaten, and then he felt a connection to Valerian, unlike anything else before: this felt like Valerian was a part of his soul. Roy’s staff became encase in fire, and he struck the rockwyrm with the first fire ball, then after the second the rockwyrm fire became a sphere and expanded large. To finish it it began to compact its size and concentrate it's energy after a while it became the size of a marble, and then it puffed out. It turns out that the extreme heat makes turns the object inside into ash, Roy did not have any other choices a tear rolled down his face as he realized what was to be his friend's grim fate.
“XIZA, YOU IDIOT, WHY DIDN’T YOU QUIT!?” He shouted, “WE COULD HAVE STARTED OVER!”
The ball of fire was about the size of man, then the color when from an orangish-white, to a blue. The fire seem to have been splitting from the ball shape as the blue aura took over. Then the ball blew apart and Xiza stood there, his aura larger than ever. Roy stood there, knowing that nothing on this planet could stop Xiza. Roy raises his staff up, as the moon was almost eclipsed. However it was for naught, as Xiza’s sword cut right through it, and created a massive gash on Roy. As he stood there, his entire life didn’t flash in front of him as most people expect to... but instead, it was one memorable night after he met Xiza when they were kids. Roy ran into his home, and told his parents that he made a new friend in school, when they asked who it was he told them it was Xiza Tyrmond. When they said that he shouldn’t be because he was a dangerous person, Roy responded ‘I don’t care if he is a god, he is my friend!’
Roy stood there and thought, Xiza… I’m sorry for not saving you, my friend.
Roy fell to his knees and slowly he fell on his stomach. Xiza gave a final roar before the moon was totally eclipsed, shutting off Xiza from his power supply, and forcing Xiza to fall straight to the ground, in the ruins of Lunatopia.
Wolfwig tried to push the rock off of his legs, but it wouldn’t budge. Wolfwig laid back and looked at the dark sky. “Sayara… If you can hear me, please grant me my dying wish. Please watch over my son and your knight... Volkmar. Protect him and let him become strong man, and let him grow old.” He asked to the cosmos. He closed his eyes for he couldn’t hold them up anymore.
If the moon could have ever shed tears, the people present that horrible time would almost feel the tears of the moon drown them in the darkness that is to come...
