I touched down on the Phanto Plains, stumbling into the landing, hit by the overwhelming feeling of wrongness once again. I managed to keep the surge from supercharging 'Guo, but only barely. As I let go of him, I rolled, sheltering Rin - still asleep - with my body.
"Not," I said, coming to my feet, "my best landing, I'll admit. Sorry, 'Guo; I'm not at my best right now."

Upon touching down, 'Guo had been forced into a few rolls before being face down in the ground. He gave a small groan before speaking. "That..." He started, his voice muffled by the earth. That was really..." He picked himself up from the dirt with a grunt, before beaming at Vash.
"THAT WAS SO COOL!" He leaped up with a fist pump. "You were all like 'WOOOOSH!' and I was all like 'WOAH!' and Rin was all like... Well... Quiet... BUT THEN YOU WERE LIKE 'WOOOOOOOSH!' And I was just like 'WOAH.' And now we're here and... Wow..." He sat down in the dirt with a big grin on his face.

I found myself smiling back, ruffling the top of his hair like I might a little kid's. This was the other reason I'd brought 'Guo - too often, the value of a comforting friend goes unappreciated.
"Sorry I dropped you," I said apologetically. "I... there's something important that I need to do here. THat's why we took off." I looked out across the Phanto Plains. "Do you remember that mana well that sprung up in Vuoto?"

"Hmm..." He mused as he brought a hand up to his chin and tapped it lightly in thought... Mana well... Mana well... What was one of those again..? Did he mean that big glowy thing? He assumed as such.
"Yeah! I remember that!" He said, scratching the back of his neck. "Why, is one of those about to poppity-op up here as well?!" He made a comical 'O' shaped face "We've got to hurry them!" He suddenly picked himself up, brushed himself off and secured White Moon Dragon to his back before pointing forwards.

I reached out a hand and restrained him.
"Ah-ah-ah, 'Guo, we need to take this slow." I looked uncomfortable. "First of all, because I'm the only one who can tell where they're going. Second of all, because that flight took quite a lot out of me, and whatever they're doing... is affecting my Lunar very strongly." Not technically a lie, considering that Lunar could be referring to the being or the energy - and both were true. "I'm more connected to him than... nearly any Knight," truth again, "and that's affecting me. Did you notice on the flight? My energy is fluctuating rapidly. If I don't take my time, take the time to control it, I'll end up like Shin - and you really, really do not want to see that."

"O-oh..." 'Guo stated, clearly deflated that his gung-ho attitude was for once not appreciated. He scratched his chin in thought before pointing to the sky, an idea seemingly springing to mind.
"You know where they're going right?! So... We get there before them... And lay an ambush!" He looked indescribably proud of his incredibly basic situational analysis...

"I've got an idea," I admitted. "We can do that. They're heading for a spot with an incredibly high concentration of man; that, based on their position and movement..."
I closed my eyes, spread my awareness across the land.
"...got it." I opened them again. "If we take this path," I pointed in a direction, toward a road, "then we'll be able to cut them off when the road swings around. Ready to go?"

"I'm always ready to go!" He said, giving Vash a huge thumbs up.
"Awwww man... I'm so excited... I've never had a proper fight before! Except with Mr Horo... But that doesn't count... Still, it was a fight... But not a proper one, like this one's going to be! Aww man, SO MUCH EXCITEMENT."

Truth be told, I barely heard 'Guo's excitement, still concentrating on the route the three of us would have to take. I was worried about Rin, but she was tough. I didn't want to risk lending her any energy, in the state I was in - I didn't want to overpower her. "'Guo," I said to him, "will you take Rin? The two of you can follow me; I'll scout the road ahead."

"Huh?" 'Guo said before turning to Vash who was holding the unconscious Rin. He could feel his ears burning slightly as he nodded towards his teacher. "U-um... Yeah! Sure!" He chuckled slightly as he took a step forwards and removed the burden of the comatose Knight from Vash's hands.

I could feel myself being moved. 'Guo was carrying me now. It happened once before, I remembered how he felt. I stirred around in the shift, feeling something.. metal, tied around my neck by a soft cloth. My weapons had vanished. What was I holding? My eyes flutter open, looking around. All I saw was 'Guo's chest. "Oh. Hey, 'Guo..." I was upset. It suddenly hit me that... I lost. I bury my face into his chest to... hide. My shame.

'Guo froze briefly for a moment, eyes widened in shock. Why on Allorum was he so startled by her waking up? He lightly shook his own head for a moment to brush away the feeling before continuing on-wards behind Vash.
"Wakey-wakey sleepy head..." He said with a smile. "You've been out of it for a while! You missed the flight over to Guasto..."

"Gu-guasto? Ugh." Rin sighs. They'd already left. "Fine... WAIT! I flew!? Come on, guys! I wanted to see the world from up high! You're so mean!" I put on a pouting face that was half-joking and half-serious. I look around. It hurt to move anything, but I wanted to look. "Where's... Daisuke? And Shin? And Blindfold?"

"You're the one that slept through it! Not me!" He said, putting on a pout of his own as he explained. "They're in Ignis... Vash went funny and explained that some people are doing bad stuff here in Guasto, it's messing with his Lunar so he's come here to check it out. I came along to regulate his mana, and you're here because... Um... I don't know... I think it's because what's-his-face may be here. Anyways, Mr Horo took Dai and Shin over to Ignis to finalize their training!"

"...oh." I mutter, my gaze turning empty as I look into 'Guo's chest. Dai was already gone... I just got him back. But, well... at least he was going to get stronger. I cuddle my face into his chest, the metal-plated whatever digging into my chest a little bit. I was hoping to have Dai hold me after. But... 'Guo's my friend. This was good, too...
