Oh, no. THis situation really couldn't get much worse. He stepped unobtrusively (he hoped) partially in between Lana and Andy, using it like he was tryng to get a little closer to Lana.
"T-they are, Andy," he said. "Lady Elexa should be here soon, though, so I think she probably sent Lana on ahead. R-right, Lana?" He looked up at her, his ears twitching, still half back to his head, his tail swishing nervously back and forth.
He didn't want this to break out into a fight.

Lana's lip curled as her eyes bore into Andy. She felt Kouichi come closer and her stomach did a flip but she fought to keep her 'tough girl' look about her.
"Yeah, exactly as he said," Lana spat, motioning to Kouichi, "I gotta make sure this place is secure so when her majesty arrives trash like you ain't causin' mayhem and putting her in danger, and for the record what the king and queen do is their own business and not yours!"
Honestly, she probably would have drawn a weapon right now if it wasn't for Kouichi being so damn close. So close she could almost put an arm around him...so damn close...

"It's okay, Lana," he said quietly, "he didn't mean anything by the question, I'm sure... it wouldn't really be a good idea to start a fight here at the ball." His nervousness increased, and he tugged a little on her hand. "Let's just... find someplace else to stand. Maybe wait for Lady Elexa and Lord Zelos to arrive, or, or... something..."
He blushed a little. "Maybe... I dunno, dance, or... or something... though I know you don't really dance so... Iguessthatwasabadidea..."
He looked away, then back up, a little flustered, his tail lashing back and forth more quickly, betraying his nervousness.

Stupid Kouichi and his stupid soft, angel-like voice trying to convince her to be the bigger man. Lana wasn't going to be the bigger man, she needed to clobber Andy Jammer!
"I know exactly what he means by that, and I am not--" Lana continued loudly, Kouichi having moved just enough that she felt safe enough to shoot her available hand to unsheath her sword to show she meant business. But Kouichi's warm and soft hand was pulling at her other one and Lana felt an odd, disturbing and dizzying drumming sensation deep in her chest.
It was a threat, it clouded her way of thinking. She bit her lip and tried to remind herself she was going to do battle with Andy and win finally. But then when she tried to rip herself away from Kouichi the thumping in her chest, now in her ears grew louder. Her eye twitched, and for a moment she lost her breath as the other greatest desire in her life surfaced and collided with the urge to destroy the orange-headed kid!
And as Lana typically did, her actions spoke and rang loud to anyone around them. She was lightning swift, hand thrown down to her side as she spun on her heel expertly, target in sight and she threw her arms out...
And took a deep breath as she looked down, her precious 'kitty cat' she'd just scooped up into an openly warm embrace. Her heart still beat wildly and the dizziness remained, but she felt a pure contentment holding Kouichi, running her fingers gently through his hair.
That was when her face flushed almost as red as her hair but dammit, she didn't care!
"Y-you said something about a...a d-dance...?" she stuttered.

Suddenly, he found himself cuddled against Lana, and he blushed deeply from his cheeks to the tips of his ears. Luckily, his ears were covered in dark fur so it was difficult to see the lush spread that far, but he let out a small squeak.
Okay, he was not expecting that. But.... but... o-okay.
He beamed, wrapped his arms around her for a brief moment, then let go.
....what was... purring.... oh.
He blushed deeper, stopped the embarrassing sound, then coughed.
"Y....yeah. I-I'm not very good at it... h-her Majesty's been... giving me.... lessons..." He looked up. "You... really want to? D-dance, I mean..."
Oh, damn, he was making an idiot of himself.

Somehow with the spilling over of emotions Lana for a moment tried to regain her fight, trying to act like dancing was for sissies and Kouichi was really just a big wuss but now as she tried to suppress the feelings it actually felt like a painful tightening in her whole body.
It hurt so much that Lana had to stretch her hands, fingers out wide at her sides and take a slow, full breath in, squinting her eyes hard as though she could somehow squeeze out the pain but it wasn't happening. She released her hands, falling limp to her sides as she let out what sounded like a relieved sigh, tilting her head downward and taking a moment to look at her boots and remind herself where she was. The pain, the tightening feeling was gone and as she brought her head back up to look at Kouichi her facial features were noticeably softer, her grey eyes wide and content, almost confused as she stared straight into Kouichi's blue eyes. She then realized it was the first time she ever really noticed his eye colour.
"I...yeah. I've never really done it before but it...can't be hard..." she answered, throat dry but still as soft as she could speak. Dancing was all footwork anyway, and Lana knew she was good enough with her feet in battle, how hard could dancing really be? Regardless, she was doing it, and her hand reached out to Kouichi.

He gulped a little, but he felt...
happy. Butterflies and floaty, but happy.
"I'm... nottoogoodatiteither," he admitted, "but we can try... I mean, we did that... that contest... so we should be... okay..."
He laughed nervously. "O-okay. Right."
He put his hand around her waist, as he'd been taught too, took her hand. Started with simple steps, the way he'd been taught. This wasn't so bad. Not so bad at all... right... he just had to concentrate... on her, and leading her, and moving.
And on her.
He smiled a little. There was a teeny part of him that'd been hoping this would happen. Suddenly, he didn't feel so awkward in his fancy silk shirt and his expensive leather boots. His ears eased up, no longer flattened back, and while it was a little awkward dancing with a woman who was taller than him by... a lot... it was actually... kind of fun...
He smiled a little bigger.

"If you keep drinking like that, you will put yourself in an early grave." Yeligar said, as he walked up to him. He wore a nice uniform like clothing as it was customary for retired warlords to wear to these events. He took a sip of his nectar, and patted the back of his friend, "How have you been?"

Out to the floor, hand on waist, hand in hand...okay, so far going good.
Wait a minute. She was being led as opposed to her leading, seriously?! The brief realization almost made for an awkward experience for Lana; she glanced around quickly to see who all was watching, if anyone, and then looked down at Kouichi who was hilariously short compared to her and her boots didn't help the height difference, either. But he was here and he was dressed snazzy and she focused more on the warmth of his hand and the soft, almost mesmerizing purring coming from him.
Really, what kind of a guy purred like an actual cat? Not that it mattered to her, she took it as a sign of contentment and shocked herself to realize that someone was actually happy to be around her, to be doing these sappy things with her. These were all actions from silly dreams she had long given up on years ago as a child.
Something warmed up in Lana, and her heartbeats softened into something of a happy rhythm. She could let go of leadership for now, follow the footsteps of another, and enjoy this moment right now that she now mentally admitted to herself that she selfishly never wanted to end. The rest of the world could disappear for all she cared, nothing was going to ruin this right now.
"This...isn't bad. Her Majesty is a good teacher, you're...good at this..." she wasn't sure if Kouichi really was good or not, but the fact that they hadn't tripped over anything or each other yet was good enough for Lana to say they were excellent.

"Not drinking like anything, I'm fine," Vincent grumbled as Yeligar gave him a pat on the back. He easily threw back his first glass and already motioned to get a second order, rolling his shoulders back and sighing.
"Avoiding the girlfriend thing right now, she's out in the entrance hall gabbing to some of the other women. We have to get married," Vincent muttered to Yeligar grimly, only too happy to receive his next drink quickly.

He blushed, deeply, especially since he realized.... dammit, he was purring again.
Stop that! he ordered himself.
"She's... really, she is a good teacher... I'm not really all that great, but I'm a lot better than I was..." He laughed nervously. "I'm sorry... I guess I sort of... forced you into this..."

"Ah, Your Majesty~"
I'd found my quarry man at last, looked like. I smiled. "I've been hoping to meet up with ou this fine day," I said, sweeping a bow.
I stood out like a sore thumb, but the disagreeable young guy with wings who was glring at me stuck out almost worse.
"I've been hoping to arrange a meeting with you. Why don't I buy you a drink and we can discuss things like civilized men?"

"Well...I think we're doing just fine!" Lana spoke louder, though not as roughly as she normally did. At least now her own comfort and happiness was a noticeable thing, which was probably really awkward for people who knew Lana to see. Lana didn't smile unless she was hurting someone. She smiled now and brought her arm around Kouichi to pull him in closer, enjoying the warmth he gave. Also his ears were fun to scratch.
"I...like that thing you're doing. The purring thing. It's neat," she softly chuckled.

Alexander blinked at Vash. The guy was familiar. Very familiar...but from where?
It didn't matter. Alexander had too many people to remember and as far as he was concerned, people should spend more time remembering him rather than he remember them. All he had to remember was Zeke and even still nowadays sometimes Zeke was a little pouty not that Alexander was any better.
"Ah, you're talking to me, sir?" Alexander wouldn't turn down free drinks, that was for sure.

He blushed, deeply.
"I... it keeps.... happening... I guess it's a cat thing... I don't mean to," he sputtered, efore cocking his head to the side. "...you... you like it? It's just... so... weird..."
That scratching-his-ears thing felt pretty nice though. It made him want to purr some more.
I'm not actually a cat! he told himself, but his lower brain had other ideas. He leaned in closer to her, tilting his head so she could reach his ears easier.
"You're smiling," he said, smiling back. "Y'know, you should do it more often. It looks nice on you."
Scratching his ears evidently made him drunk, because that was a dumb thing to say.
