Los Angeles, California - Earth
In the streets, cries came up from the seedy alleys where the addicts gathered and hung, the places where those without a death wish or a desperate need stayed far away from.
The enforcers had a new tool.
The rich had a new toy.
The addict had a new drug.
Mana. The implant which allowed one to freely control it, drawing it frm the aether and controlling it at will, had been created by Damas Commodities, the company creating the future, today.
But here, in these back streets, a sinister truth was growing.
These addicts weren't like the others. They played with dancing lights and fir and metal and water, and they were more than simply addicted. Their minds had been affected, their bodies, weakened, just like any other drug. But their drug was Mana.
And ven the rich playboys were starting to fall victim.
They were pliant. Too pliant.
She wasn't desperate, and she didn't have a death wish; she was simply searching for answers. She stood from where she'd been speaking with one and shook her head.
No.... there was simply something wrong with Mana.

Dark Soul City, Nerezza - Allorum
For just a moment, she saw it on the horizon. A faint light, within the Dark Border. A natural light, a pure light. Then it was gone, and night set in as it should.
But there was something wrong. Because natural light, aside from the faintly glowing walls of her castle and the cave it had been quarried from, and the small creatures that ran the night, light didn't belong in the country of darkness.
This was.... troubling.
She shook her head and paced back into her room, drawing the balcony curtains behind her.
She would discuss this with Zelos tomorrow, when the moon was high in the sky. Troubling news deserved to be discussed during the day.
---
Ignis - Allorum
The blonde Lunar crouched on the ground, his eyes closed, listening to the voice of his brother as he was given troubling news.
The Moons were getting weaker. Mana itself was getting weaker.
The well he'd destroyed in his own homeland prevented the quick, pulsing leaks which tore the surface of Roccia and Vuoto, but he could still feel it himself, a slow, ever so slow drain as life was bled from the world.
The Heroes. He had to call the Heroes - and inform his mortal brothers.
They had to stop whatever had created those wells.
---
Los Angeles, California - Earth
A man, imposing, charismatic, looks across those gathered around him, sitting in a high-backed corporate chair like a throne.
"Progress is going well, I take it?"
"Of course, sir," says the man to his right.
The Man smiles.
"Then let it... begin..."
