Hey there guys,
So like I said, lots of stuff I'm catching up on for the site, and this here's the second one. I've been wanting to play with a meta-rating for players to rate their character's combat skill and aptitude and I've finally got a beta put together for us to try. I'll be putting this up for everyone to look over and comment on, so if you have any questions, comments to add, or changes you think we can make to improve it please feel free to post below and let us know. Ideally I'd love for this to be something that all players can use on their profiles and have a little fun with.
Each character’s combat prowess is evaluated in 6 stats.
-Intelligence (Represents combat tactics, ability to adapt to strategies and to understand and read an opponent’s attacks and powers)
-Strength (Represents physical might, force of physical attacks and ability to block forceful attacks)
-Speed (Represents movement speed, quickness of attacks, reflexes in dodging attacks, and overall maneuverability in a combat situation)
-Stamina (Represents ability to endure damage, quality of armor, and ability to carry on in a prolonged fight without suffering exhaustion)
-Magic (Represents variety of spells, strength of magical techniques, and ability to use magic frequently without exhaustion)
-Fighting Technique (Represents combat finesse, martial training, efficiency in strikes, and aptitude at using or dealing with technical maneuvers such as counters, parries, feints, etc.
Rankings (A-E, with S allowed for Arc Villians/Arc Mentors/Transformations/Extraplanar Beings)
For a relative view on the ratings:
-E represents a normal civilian, basically like you and me
-D represents an average trained soldier or an apprentice mage
-C represents a recognized and powerful member of an army, likely a general or a mage who has learnt enough of their art to stand on their own
-B represents someone with superhuman talent in an aspect. These stats reflect mortal heroes and champions of the world to be revered or feared by the common man.
-A represents someone who's achieved a paragon power unheard of. A character who flaunts an A level stat is likely to have stories and legends passed down about their incredible power or skill.
-S represents someone who has tapped into something beyond what man can ever hope to achieve. These represent the powers and attributes of Gods and Demons, or primal powers that stand on their level.
Basic Character Maximum:
-1 As
-3 Bs
-1 C
-1 D
(Note: This represents a character that has reached the zenith of their fighting ability. Unless arc powers, arc weapons or final forms are found for the character, they are incapable of getting stronger, though their variety of powers may shift/grow/change. It's also important to realize that this is the max that a human being/base being can reach period, as opposed to the max that all characters can reach. As such it's entirely possible for a character to reach their max potential and still be weaker than this, as dictated by time dedicated to training, age, permanent injuries, natural ability, etc.)
Arc Villians/Arc Mentors/Extraplanar Beings Maximums
-1 S
-2 As
-2 Bs
-1 C
(Once again, these are simply maximums. Such characters are perfectly capable of being less than this and growing, either with time or with an arc's progression, or simply never reaching this max at all.)
Rules for Transformations:
-A transformation or altered form may come in one of three levels.
1st type: This is a simple altered state that the character can use with relative ease and without much if any repercussions. This is measured by having the character increase a single stat by one grade. Once this transformation has expired it cannot be used again for the remainder of the fight.
2nd type: This is a strenuous or complex transformation that the character uses, granting a high level of power in exchange for weakening or exhausting a character after it’s duration has expired. This is measured by having the character increase any two stats by one grade, or a single stat by two. After the transformation has expired the character is either exhausted, measured as a decrease in strength, speed and stamina by one grade temporarily, or must take an equivalent penalty of some sort approved by two site admins.
3rd type: This is a dangerous and/or reckless release of untapped power, granting access to incredible amounts of power in exchange for a devastating toll taken on the character after it’s duration expires. This is represented by three points allotted to the character to increase their stats as they see fit. After the transformation has expired the character is either completely incapacitated and knocked unconscious for the rest of the day, does permanent damage to their body or magical ability(indicated by a permanent decrease in a stat by one grade), or an equivalent penalty approved by two site admins.
Transformations may be applied to any character, however their effects and repercussions are to be decided and listed as soon as they are created, indicated by a separate listing of your stats on your profile.
Weapons/Armour:
Any weapons and armor of exceptional quality or power are to be considered when creating your character and as such will not rise a character above their maximum capacity unless it does so by initiating a transformation. If a character does discover armor, weapons or other special items that do grant a power increase it must be cleared by two site admins, and are only to be allowed if the power is either extremely limited(see Special Attacks/Skills) or carries a fair repercussion for using.
Special Attacks/Spells:
While characters are rated for their overall aptitude in each stat, some may possess exceptional attacks or skills that are considered higher tier than their average power. To fairly consider the impact of these attacks/spells in a combat situation these rules will help factor them in.
-A technique usable only once per day may be treated as if it came from a character with two stats one grades higher. This technique should either require a condition to use or a downside for using to prevent characters for overusing it.
-A technique usable only once per battle may be treated as if it came from a character with their stat one grade higher. Likewise this should either be a conditional attack, require an extended preparation to do, or a downside to prevent characters from overusing it.
-A technique that is usable with any more frequency is considered standard enough that it’s incorporated into their base stats and as such is not enhanced.
-This is not to be abused by players listing excessive amounts of single use techniques to artificially increase their power, nor is this to be combined with a transformation. These are specifically to highlight a character’s unique ultimate or finishing attack, if they have one.
FINAL NOTE: THESE ARE NOT AN ABSOLUTE INDICATION OF WHO SHOULD WIN FIGHTS. AT BEST THESE INDICATE A CHARACTER AT 100% FIGHTING A COMPLETELY FAIR ONE-ON-ONE FIGHT AGAINST AN OPPONENT THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. ANY NUMBER OF VARIABLES MAY ALLOW A WEAKER CHARACTER TO DEFEAT A STRONGER CHARACTER, AND THESE SHOULD NEVER BE USED TO BULLY PLAYERS INTO LOSING SOLELY BECAUSE THEIR STATS AREN’T AS HIGH.
So yeah, let me know what you guys think. Comments, questions, etc. please feel free to post. If you like start putting them on your profile, as most likely we'll get the best sense of how well this works the more people put their characters up using this.
