Round 1: Natalya vs. Andy
Beneath the warm and sultry sun, the citizens of Lux Lucis made there way about the city market, their time passed by with idle chit chat concerning the freshness of produce and the talk of talent new and old that littered the busiest of streets with eye catching theatre and acts. While patron sampled wares and shows as if the day was just another relaxing afternoon, the market was a battle royal as both shop keeps and performers dared to outwit, outmatch and outsell their competitors. Bards flexed their fingers and tongues with tales, each more exciting then the last. Puppeteers and satirists entertained children and adults with their slapstick and witty report, and conjurers dazzled the eyes of all who turned to witness their strange magic, much to the chagrin of the city guard.
Yet as the sun had passed its highest point the crowd was thinning far faster than normal, and hushed words between the city folk told of a show to outshine all others as a spectacular blast of light had appeared in the city square to signify a spectacular show.
Indeed, the square while usually filled with a few who took to dallying by the fountain and those who partook in the fine dining that overlooked the main street were instead replaced with crowds drawn to the light. For in the center two figures circled each other, weapons drawn and both with a very serious look upon their face.
“I recognize your look. That scraggily orange hair, and that unwieldy cleaver. Are you Andy Jammer?” One of the combatants, a young woman called to the man standing opposite her. Her stature was imposing to say the least, aided only more by the heavy armor that covered her head to toe. Only a pair of green eyes marked with a tinge of disdain and tufts of blond hair stuck out from the open visor to her helm.
The man opposite her was indeed the very hero from Earth, but given the sudden circumstances he’d had thrust upon him he was reluctant to give this armor-clad stranger any info without getting a little of his own. “What if I am? Who wants to know?” His body stood taut in it’s fighting stance, unwavering lest the woman struck first.
“I am Lady Natalya Banders, Justicar of Eventide, citizen of Nerezza. Now, are you who I think you are?” The woman raised her arm out towards Andy, her single-handed war hammer pointed accusingly at the young warrior.
“Sure, I’m Andy.” The crowd gasped suddenly, as if a celebrity had just revealed himself to them all. Many of them shouted out their cheers of admiration, while a few young girls called out their undying love for him, much to his embarrassment. “Uh, thanks everyone. Glad to know I’ve got so many fans in…Santo Luce?” He asked questioningly, grasping at straws as to where the light had brought them anyways.
“Silence!” A protest from Natalya shut down all the onlookers and redirected Andy’s attention to her. “For your crimes of attempted regicide, civil disobedience and wanton destruction during your time on this world, I hereby place you under arrest to await judgment and punishment by Lady Elexa B’Shera.”
“What?” Andy’s jawed dropped, and the crowd reciprocated his feelings with outcries and boos abound. Punishment by Queen Elexa? The thought brought the vampire’s sadistic face to his mind, and he could almost see her lips crawl up into an evil smile as he imagined what would happen were such a thing to play out. His skin crawled in repulsion at the idea. “No way in hell girl. I ain’t going back to your crazy queen, and you sure aren’t going to make me!” Sensing things weren’t going to resolve themselves Andy brandished his blade out at the Justicar.
“Resisting arrest? I’m adding that to your charges Andy Jammer. You can deal with them once I’ve dragged your unconscious body back to Nerezza!” Tightening the leather grip on her hammer around her wrist she ran towards Andy, cutting a horizontal path towards his ribs only to be blocked by the might of his cleaver sword. Bashing aside the comparatively small weapon aside Andy retaliated with a barrage of wide slashes, each one offsetting Natalya as she struggled to keep up with the frenetic and powerful pace of Andy’s counterattack. Finally catching an opening as he knocked her hammer off to her side he followed up with a speedy one-handed hilt butt. The Justicar jerked forward with the force of his strike only to catch a powerful uppercut in the jaw.
“Shouryuken!” Andy called out his attack with gusto, and the crowd roared once more with cheers and applause, all still caught in the illusion that the battle before them was nothing more than a performance. Natalya’s muffled grunt of pain was extinguished by the crowd’s cheering, and as Andy landed softly on his feet she crashed down hard against the pavement below. “Now, why don’t you go and leave me alone? I’d really rather not have to hurt a woman.”
Ugh, get up you. Her head was swimming as she tried to recover from Andy’s punch. The uproar of the crowd made her head throb and whether it was from the noise or the dent in her helm from his punch she found the armor stifling. Shuffling to a knee she discarded the helm to the ground, revealing the bruise she’d taken from the hero’s signature strike. I guess it was pretty stupid of me to think I had a chance against that strength of his. Looks like I’m going to have to match his strength, and his recklessness. Overseer of the Law, grant me the strength to see your will done. Closing her eyes in prayer the youthful amazon let her hammer fall loose on her wrist as she unbuckled the clasps on her gauntlets.
“Hey. Hey, what are you doing?” Andy took a step back, unsure of what her strange actions entailed. Who takes off armor for a fight? Does this mean she gives up? He felt almost ready to ease up when flecks of blue ethereal energy began to flow out from her forehead and forearms. The crowd too seemed to quiet down, at last draw into something unseen. Even a few remarked on how impressive the illusions were on the girl. Slowly the translucent energy took shape, forming an intricate circlet upon her head that appeared to be woven from branches, capped with antlers and adorned with engravings of birds and mammals. Likewise her bare arms became enshrouded with a semisolid shell of spikes and coarse plates that capped at her knuckles. “What in the world are those lady? I thought I made it clear you ain’t going to have a chance against me!”
“These are tools of justice you vagrant, and I’d rather show you what they’re capable of.” Natalya declared valiantly. Rising up and snapping the hammer back into her hand she once more took the offensive. She charged Andy as before, swinging her hammer towards his ribs, expecting to meet his blade once more. Yet this time she felt his weapon reel back from the force, and looking up at Andy she caught a hint of surprise on his face. Taking her chance she pushed her advantage, putting both hands upon the weapon as she followed through with reckless abandon. While the crowd seemed stunned by the sudden showing of magic most failed to see the subtle difference between now and their last exchange. Indeed as Hero and Justicar clashed their weapons both took only a single step or shift of weight before each blow was made, yet Natalya no longer winced from Andy’s attacks. “Must be hard using a sword when you don’t intend on killing with it.” She taunted, drawing attention to his blade as she beat back the back of his sword and lunged forward with an overhead blow to his shoulder.
“Like I said, I don’t like hurting girls, even if they are as big a pain in the ass as you!” Andy skillfully parried her, casting her hammer to the side and seemed assured of a hit as he spun around to catch her in the side. Yet when he twisted to see her she was indeed in front, only far too close. His sword cut too far out as the Justicar had moved in right beside him. Bracing her shoulder she swung her arms around Andy and clutched her hands tightly around his waist. Grunting with every ounce of strength she pulled his hips towards her as she rammed her pauldrons into his chest. Andy managed only a yelp as his entire body bucked backwards and to the ground. Taking to her training Natalya slipped her legs around Andy and dug her thighs into his sides, a satisfied smirk across her face. Catching her hammer back in her hand she swung down on the startled boy, this time catching his off hand as he brought it up last second to block her taking out his sword hand. “AAAAUuuu!” Andy cried out as he felt his wrist crack under the force of her Incarnum-enhanced blow. Drawing her weapon up once more Andy shifted just in time to stop her from landing another debilitating blow.
“Stay still you! I don’t want to be bringing you to Lady Elexa dead alright? Surrender already and I won’t hit you again.” She demanded, as she grew frustrated at Andy’s tenacity with each successful dodge or parry of the mighty swing of her hammer.
“Surrender this!” At the apex of her swing Andy released his sword and brought both palms together right in front of her chest. Taking only an instant to pool the ki needed he called forth his power as an orb of azure might. “Hadoken!” The ki-ball pounded Natalya square in the torso, easily sending her flying backwards past the crowd and directly into the fountain. The stone décor surrounding the fountain cracked as her body smashed up against it, sending water pouring down her back and blood filling her mouth from the internal damage. Sucking in air she spat out the thick copper-tasting crimson fluid out, and looked up at the people that had gathered around her with irritation and pain plainly written on her face. For the first time, the crowd seemed to realize that they might have stumbled onto something very real. Both combatants struggled to their feet, and both stared daggers at the other. The crowd of women, men and children alike either ducked or scrambled out of the way of the two. Some had already begun to flee the scene, while others seemed only more transfixed now that they realized they were witness to the true Hero of Earth do battle. Others still, namely young girls, had immediately attached themselves to the powerful female Justicar, and began to chant for her to “kick that boy’s butt” as it were.
He’s going to be impossible to fight weapon to weapon, there’s no way I’m going to beat him unless I get him on the ground. Natalya unclasped her pauldrons and tossed them aside towards the crowd behind her. She rolled her shoulders, enjoying the freedom as she summoned forth the Incarnum magic once more. This time it slowly flowed out beyond her covered shoulders to form a wispy cloak that draped over her shoulders and tied together to a decorative clasp of her God’s symbol in front. “Once more you’ve caused damage to historic art Andy Jammer. You’ll have to answer for this too!” She pointed towards the cracked damaged done to the fountain by her body.
“Excuse me? That’s your body’s outline in the fountain. That means you broke it! You’re as crazy as your Queen you know that?” Andy grumbled in protest, wincing as he inspected his wrist briefly. It was already puffing up, and it didn’t take more than a small bit of movement for him to be sure it was either broke or dislocated. That freaking smarts. Not going to be doing any more Hadokens against her. Just my luck, if only Jasmine were here… “Either way, you haven’t even got a good hit on me, what makes you think you have any chance?” The majority of those that still looked on clamored to see Andy victorious, while the rest were either the few girls whom cheered Natalya on, or those within the reach of her hammer that stayed silent for fear of pissing her off.
“How about that I don’t need a ‘good hit’ to bring you in?” Natalya was good to keep talking for now, as her Therapeutic Mantle was already beginning to slowly repair the damage done to her face and internal organs. “Now, come quietly. Last chance, or I’ll make your court appointed punishment ten times worse when this is all over.”
“That’s it, no more nice guy ‘kay? I’m not going to get pushed around just because you’re a girl. As far as I’m concerned, you’re a guy now. Uh, okay maybe you’re a little pretty for a guy, but you’re freakishly tall enough to be a dude!” Andy snarled, psyching himself up before he took the initiative, gripping his sword in one hand while he dashed forward with a sudden burst of speed.
“That’s it!” Natalya snapped. Bracing herself against the speedy strike she pulled the pair of manacles that hung from her pack. “I’m not freakishly tall okay? I’m perfectly proportioned for my build.” She could only take the defensive against him, content to block his sword one handed now that she didn’t have to deal with his two handed swings.
“What’s the matter? Too afraid to attack against now that I’m this fast?” Andy bolted all around her, managing to get in a quick cut here and there as she was unable to keep up with him completely.
“Beat her now Andy. She’s healing too fast!” A random groupie shouted out, and seeking a closer look he looked at her face to see that indeed the bruise on her jaw was indeed almost gone. Shit, since when? It’s that magic for sure. Fine, gotta hit her with a big one and I’ve got just the one to do it. Rushing to her front Andy swung in a vertical lunge upwards only to pull back at the last moment for a feint. Crouching low he pulled his sword close in behind him. “Shinku…” The inner power began to rage inside him, building like a tempest before being forced down to his legs.
Oh no! Sensing something big was coming from the boy’s past instances of calling out attacks the Justicar dispelled her mantle and circlet, leaving the finite Incarnum within her to flow solely to the gauntlets.
“…Tatsumaki Senpukyaku!” Andy roared as he felt an explosion of power thrust him into the air towards the Incarnate, his whole body twisting as his legs kicked up a powerful wind that seemed to suck her towards him. She braced herself, attempting to dig in to the cement pavement to no avail. Pulled into range she held her hands close as her hammer took shot after shot of Andy’s ki-infused kicks before the handle could take no more and shattered in her grasp. In that moment her mind raced, and sensing the impending doom before her time seemed to crawl.
If only I could get away, but his power is like a tornado…which means I’m safest in the eye of the storm! Her body tilted to face Andy directly, and with a precisely timed shot she dove under his kick only to rise in between his legs and grapple her arms around his thighs. “RRRRRrraaaaaaaagh!” Once more pushing every bit of force she could muster downwards she took herself into his center where she was safe from the force of his powerful kicks and right where she wanted him; on the ground. His back and head smashed against the pavement, and this time leaving nothing to chance she took his brief moment of being dazed to sweep over to his sword arm and lock him in a Figure Four hold. Before he could react she thrust down with her body weight, and in that moment Andy’s pain was doubled as his shoulder cracked with a sickening pop. He cried out, but with one arm rendered useless and the other hand’s wrist badly hurt there was little he could do to stop her aside from throwing out an impulsive elbow at her head. Rolling with the shot she took it in the shoulder and then swept her arm around his and secured the manacles to his wrist. The cold metal wrapped tightly around his inflamed wrist, just causing everything to hurt worse as the manacles’ might squeezed his fractured bone. A lesser man would have blacked out from shock, but Andy’s will gave him enough force to roll his elbow so that his palm was facing her. “Shi-inku Hado-“ It was as far as he got before a swift elbow to the face knocked out Andy Jammer’s concentration as well as his last hold on his consciousness.
“Lights out Jammer. Now let’s get you out of here.” Rising to face the legion of despondent onlookers, Natalya flashed them an authoritative look of “Shoo or you’re next” before suddenly feeling the same sensation she had felt before she was taken here. In a slow engulfing of light, her and Andy faded away from sight.
