(I'm sorry this wasn't up sooner ^^; I still feel like I'm pretty rusty at writing stories, but hopefully it's not too bad.)
In an arena in Chablys, in a large clearing specifically built for showing off heavy machinery- a young attractive woman with long flowing golden brown hair stepped into the arena with a metallic looking pack strapped on her back, as well as a large tan colored satchel around her shoulder.
Her name was Serafina and she had been told that this tournament was being held to support a good cause. From what she understood- Other nations were interested in the technology her sister had invented for being able to combine magic with technology, and this tournament would be a good way of demonstrating such technology, and getting other nations to fund the research for advancing it. Serafina was not one to back out on public relations, so she accepted the challenge. If it allowed for more funding to this technology, she thought- then why not? Besides, she hadn't had much of an opportunity to use her weapons recently.
Her sister had created custom made androids for her that used said Magic Technology and they were controlled by a necklace she wore. Since it looked just like another piece of jewelry, someone looking at her for the first time would never be able to guess how she was controlling said androids. That's how she preferred to keep things. All she cared about was showing what this technology was capable of, not how she was able to control it.
One of the potential funders announced that she'd be using her machinery against one of Allorum's "skilled" fighters soon to be a Lunar Knight.
Serafina wasn't sure what to expect when she entered said arena, but she certainly wasn't expecting the opponent that entered the ring. She found herself looking straight ahead at a young boy with blonde hair who looked as though he was in his mid teens. In fact he probably was. The boy carried a sword that seemed rather large for someone of his stature, which he held in a backwards stance. It was announced that his name was Eli.
THIS was the skilled fighter they spoke of? Serafina was beginning to wonder if perhaps the onlookers had underestimated just how powerful her machinery actually was.
Serafina dropped her large metallic pack on the ground. She wasn't sure what to think. Why had they chosen a mere child to try and best her in the weapons department? Was this some kind of joke? She knew looks could be deceiving but she was still a bit disappointed with her opponent. This was supposed to be a hardcore battle of a skilled fighter against her weapons and she felt she wouldn't be able to show off their full potential.
The metallic pack began to unfold itself, and grew taller and taller as everything clicked into place. It revealed a robot that stood a little over six feet tall, with a bulky build, and a little smile on it's face. To someone who had never seen such a thing- it was unsettling if not a little creepy. There were a few gasps from the spectators. Serafina couldn't tell if the gasps were ones of amazement or horror. Her sister had dubbed this particular robot "Mr. Smiles" due to the permanent expression on his face.
"Meet Mr. Smiles." She announced. "He is sturdy and built to withstand quite a bit of damage."
Eli's eyes widened, as he hadn't quite seen something like this before. It was unlike any creature he'd ever seen...or rather unlike any machine he'd ever laid eyes upon.
"Looks like a hunk of junk to me!" He glared, pointing his sword in her direction. "Besides, You're nothing but an old lady!" With that, he lunged forward- his sword pointed in her direction. With Eli's sword just moments away from impacting Serafina: The giant robot stepped in front of her, his unsettling grin gazing back at Eli.
Serafina tsked. "Well now that's not very polite."
Eli grunted and slashed his sword again and again at the giant robot that stood before him. Each time the blow was blocked, until the metallic hand grabbed the blade of the sword and pushed it away, causing Eli to tumble over backwards. Although his arms were covered in scratches, Mr. Smiles was virtually unaffected otherwise. Eli pulled himself to his feet, grabbed his sword, and struck again. Each time however; Mr. Smiles blocked the attack; the smile not once disappearing from his face. Seeing the machine's smug grin angered Eli, which caused him to attack with more fury than before.
"Making your machine do your dirty work for you, huh Grandma?" he snarled.
"I believe that was the entire purpose." She said. "To test how well they stand up against one of Allorum's 'skilled' fighters."
Eli took a step back as if rethinking his strategy and then backed away.
"What is he up to..." She wondered. Then she saw it. He took a running stance and lunged at Mr. Smiles with more fury than before. Almost as if he'd been empowered somehow. Mr. Smiles rose his hand to block the attack, but it shattered upon Eli's impact. It was now Serafina who was surprised. Perhaps she'd underestimated her opponent.
She reached into her Satchel and tossed what looked like a few balls and a cylinder into the air. Almost immediately the balls sprouted wings and little claws and flew towards Eli surrounding him in a whirlwind of robotic bug sprites. Eli tried to wave them away with one hand, but the solid metallic surfaces on the sprites bruised his hand. "Ow!" He raised his sword and began swinging at the bug sprites, but to his surprise: they exploded upon impact, causing him to tumble backwards again. He groggily pulled himself to his feet and swung violently at the swarm of Bug sprites. Each time one of them exploded, the close impact was so great, that he found himself being cut by the shrapnel and losing his composure.
Eli's breathing was heavy and he held his wounded areas in pain. "I guess you're not as bad as I expected, Grandma." Now being called old once, or even twice: Serafina could let slide. A third time though? This wasn't acceptable. "I'll show you just what an Old Lady can do." She frowned.
The cylinder she'd tossed up at the same time as her bug sprites had transformed into a chubby floating robot her sister had also dubbed with a name. This one's name was "Mr. Chubbs." The robot floated over to Mr. Smiles and Serafina commanded him to stay there, as she had a feeling Eli would try to shatter the rest of Mr. Smiles if given the chance. However; she had confidence in her androids.
Once the last bugsprite had been demolished by Eli's sword, he was looking pretty rough. He had bruises, and was bleeding from various parts of his body where the bug sprites had exploded. For tiny little things: they certainly had quite a kick to them.
Eli took a moment to rest, but with that same determined look in his eye, he lounged forward at Mr. Smiled yet again. If he could do away with one hand- he could easily do away with he rest of him. He let out a cry, and ran to attack, but just seconds before impact: He ran into a force field.
"Where did that?!" He wondered, then saw the small portly robot floating beside Mr. Smiles.
"I'll have to do away with you first..."
If he had any chance of defeating that creepy, always smiling robot, he'd have to defeat the one protecting him first. He went to attack but was stopped short by the force field a few times. He tried to dodge under, but that didn't seem to work too well. He thrust his sword at Mr. Chubbs just as he saw the heat emanating from the robot's eyes to create the force field. The forcefield ended up surrounding the base of the sturdy sword, and the heat from the robot's eyes caused it to bend.
"That's not possible!" Eli sputtered, looking at his sword which was now bent. He didn't seem like one to give up, and he swung his sword with all his remaining strength, which caused Mr. Chubbs to go flying. The little robot shook it's head, seeming to be unharmed and began floating back to where Eli was seconds from attacking Mr. Smiles.
Serafina watched intensely, trying to concentrate on powering both her robots at the same time. Just as Eli's sword was about to make contact: Mr Smiles delivered a solid punch to the sword with his remaining good hand, while at the same time: Mr. Chubbs created a forcefield. The impact of both attacks at once sent Eli crashing to the ground. The spectators let out a gasp, as muffled voices from the audience could be heard. Was he okay? He wasn't dead was he?
Preparing herself for another round, Serafina had her remaining 2 androids in their ready stances. After what seemed like forever, Eli tried to get up. Try as he may, it seemed the damage he took was too much for him to keep going. It took him a long time to get back on his feet, but this boy was determined. Serafina sighed. He was a little TOO determined.
Mr. Smiles walked over to Eli and with his hand that was still in tact, gave the boy a light push. Eli collapsed for the last time and groaned. His body was exhausted and his wounds were a little too much for him to handle. All he could do was hold his side in pain like a crumpled up ball of paper. His bent sword lay beside him in a heap on the ground.
Serafina commanded her robots to come to her and to fold themselves up. Although she hadn't left unscathed, she was still satisfied. "How's that for an old lady?" she smirked.
