Player: John
Name: Scarth Vandeel
Description: Scarth has an athletic build. He has green hair that flows down to his neck, with two bangs that flop over a purple headband. His body is covered in a purple and black breastplate overtop a green tunic. Plain steel gauntlets and leggings make up the rest of his armor, leaving only parts of cloth sticking out from his exposed waist and thighs. Due to the dimensional rift in his body, high levels of stress cause him to lose total control over the Other, thus letting small nightmarish extrusions slip out of his body for brief moments.
Age: 26
Personality: Inflicted with what seems like full blown schizophrenia, Scarth’s personality is hard to pin down. Often times most of what he says in nonsense to anyone but him, likely due to the severity of his hallucinations and illusions. However for whatever reason he does not carry the rest of the symptoms, leaving him devoid of delusions of paranoia and importance, or personality defects. He is normally a playful man, though in the face of conflict he becomes a wild and eccentric man.
Alignment: Sumata of Sky Kingdom (Evil)
Equipment: Ariadelvento steel armour on his chest, gauntlets and leggings.
Weapons: None.
Combat: Has some street based hand to hand combat training at a young age, which was furthered added on to with his own improvised style focusing on feints, erratic movements, and jabbing strikes meant to distract or annoy. The main focus of his fighting style is either to draw the enemies attention away from his real attacks from the Other, but beyond that the finer nuances of combat are too involved for him. As his armor ends short of his joints he retains his flexibility while having some protection from his gear.
Magic: Scarth’s main power in combat relies on his body being a conduit for a dimension of horrific creatures, which he calls the Other. The creature is self aware enough to realize Scarth’s living body is its only method of escape from its prison, and thus aid him in his survival. The end result is Scarth having control over a variety of limbs, tendrils, and teeth that he may bring out of any point in his body for close to medium range strikes.
Flaws: He's all but completely insane, easily distracted in even the most imperative of situations. Also has no real skill in combat without the aid of the Other.
History: Scarth was a boy who lead an ordinary life in the Kingdom of Ariadelvento. He lived in middle class, doing everything that ordinary kids do with ordinary friends and an ordinary family. But Scarth’s story doesn’t really begin till the hallucinations set in. When he was only 16 they started off small; the echoes of a tiny voice could be heard with the morning breeze, and what he had believed to be inanimate began to look at him. It was a wonderful secret at first, for the voice was kind, and a sense of magic filled even the most previously mundane events in life.
But as the months dragged on the voices grew judgmental, and objects began to nip and nash cruel teeth towards an outstretched limb. Scarth had led himself to believe so completely that the initial magic he’d seen in his life that the scenes grew terrifying. After enduring the bizarre images and slithering voices that would urge him in vile acts for months, he finally snapped when his mother baked him a cake for his birthday. The frosted pastry, aglow with candles was to him a vision of fearsome crackling fire. The voice whispered, “She means to kill you with it, will you let her?” and he could hold back no more. Scarth escaped into the night, his deed left as a frightening mystery for the people in his town.
Scarth began to fear what he would do around people, and with what was left of his sanity he got a job as a miner, with a small home deep in an isolated forest. The job kept his mind busy, and in the darkness of the caves he found sanctity in the silence. But neither Scarth, nor the company that hired him knew that deep in the ground laid the key to his ascension to power, and after years of digging, he was bound to find it.
The day came when he was 22, and developing a rather rich vein brought his tools shattering through a man made wall deep in the subterranean. It was the first time in years the voice had spoke to him so loud. Like lips against his ear he felt the words, “Go on. Move forward.” Inside he saw what appeared to be a long forgotten chamber of rituals. Along the walls and floors were markings and symbols, the dark red stains encrusted and dried like blood. Like his mother’s blood. He wanted to run, yet the voice would not let him. It was strong and persuasive and it spurred his feet forward until he came across a room like no other. The walls and floor, even the ceiling was splashed with the red markings, and skeletons of men and creatures he’d never seen before laid outstretched on the ground. Yet amongst the vision of horror that stunk too strong to be an illusion was a glistening stone no bigger than a heart. It was a vibrant red and as he approached it he could swear he saw it beating slowly with a steady, pulsating rhythm. It called to him, and in the most meaningful act of Scarth’s life, he took it in his hand.
The reaction was instantaneous. In a moment he felt such power and knew such pain that he was sure the madness had truly taken him. But as quickly as it came, it left him. He looked to his hand, and saw only air. Scarth dismissed the entire episode as a relapse of his sickness and nothing more, and left the ruins. But he could not dismiss it for long, for the stone had existed and what’s more had been the immortal remnants of a being summoned long ago. What’s more the being had found a host in Scarth’s body, and in his sickness it had found the beginning of its rise to power again.
As a voice, it urged Scarth towards a path of calculated murder and destruction. To Scarth, whose sickness had gotten only worse with time, saw horrid beings and creatures that lunged at him with weapons and venomous words cut down by something within him. He soon grew aware of the thing that was inside him, and named it the Other. His path led him to the capital city of Ventus where he slayed the king and took his place as the new ruler with an iron fist. Scarth found enjoyment as ruler, and with the aid of the Other no longer feared the visions he saw. He had learned with time that whatever was truly fearsome the Other took care of, and was able to enjoy life amongst people once again.
Sumata Arc
With the arrival of Trucido the Other grew fascinated by the man’s promise of great power, and was able to urge Scarth into trusting the man completely. Scarth now serves Trucido loyally, eager to claim the reward while the Other hungers for the power to break through its mortal prison and exist once more in the human realm independently.
With Trucido's success at claiming the relics came The Other's success at freedom, for with the relic's added power along with the many souls he had consumed through Scarth's cannibalistic actions he was at last strong enough. Using Yeligar Maelstrom and Angelus to beat Scarth and return his fear of the world to him The Other asserted his dominance over Scarth's body and awakened, leaving his host as a broken husk within his body.
