You either love it or hate it... sort of like Marmite but a bit better because if you hate it it doesn't make you sick. If no-one has realised you may have realised Riliath is a horribly obvious copy of Lu Bu. Gensayce Zidjiai is in fact based heavily upon Zhao Yun in fighting style, sort of in appearence and in his mindset.
I myself absolutley adore this series, cutting through hordes of enemies with ease is fun and the lack of violence makes it quite easy for younger players to take interest. The only time your ever scared is if your a low level and you run into Lu Bu in which case you mostly soil yourself, especially considering he can kill you in three to four hits.
If you don't mind a slightly repetetive gameplay which is made more original by adding 'targets' to gain extra xp then you should be fine with the Dynasty Warriors Series. It's all based off of the novel 'Romance Of The Three Kingdoms' by Luo Guangzhong which is a romantisaization (I think that's spelt right =S) of 3rd century china at the decline of the Han Empire. It has around 1000 historically acurate characters, 800,000 words and 120 chapters it is considered one of the four great chinese novels.
but yeah all the same it's a brilliant game and Koei's ability to rework the same story over six times is absolutley brilliant if you ask me!

I used to have a friend who was obsessed with Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Didn't they make a Magic: The Gathering set based on that book, too? I think they did. I'm pretty sure they did. Dynasty Warriors... only ever owned Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires. Played it a lot, beat it a lot. It was hack-and-slash mixed with Risk-style conquest and a create-a-character system. Really had a LOT of fun with it. I can understand why people criticize the series, but DW6:E was a guilty pleasure of mine.
