Before Malice was a magic wielding Hero, before he became a botanist, before he lost his parents, his life was rather bland.
From "Every Rose Has its Thorns"
"Story: An eccentric and assertive man, Malice has always been somewhat of an enigma. His dark disposition has led to more than a few questions about where, exactly, his loyalties lay. His childhood is anything but a mystery. Growing up in a family laden with wealth, Malice was educated from an early age in various topics. His talent was evident in his studies of botanical sciences, and, to the dismay of his tutors, geomancy. By the age of sixteen, Malice had blossomed into a powerful geomancer. Shortly after he turned seventeen, Malice, unsatisfied with moving rocks and growing trees, discovered another source of power within a fallen sorceress. As the story goes, Malice was visited by a dying sorceress who needed to relinquish her power to another before she could fall into eternal sleep. No one knows exactly which sorceress bequeathed her powers to Malice, but it is certain that her heart dwelt in an ancient and powerful darkness. After receiving the sorceress power, Malice fused his own geomantic power with that of an unselfish, and pure evil. Malice then disappeared for three years."
So where did he go? What happened in those three years? I'm gonna tell you.
The sorceress the gave her powers to Malice was known as Amalthia. She was the latest in a long line of sorceresses that had graced the world for centuries. Each sorceress had her own strengths and weaknesses, and could draw on the strengths of past sorceresses at will (like when Malice used Ultimecia's power to freeze Roxa in time). The legend of the Sorceress Power states that every sorceress is a decedent of the long forgotten god, Hein, who split his power with the people of Allorum in exchange for releasing him from imprisonment on Allorum. The half Hein gave to the people became the first sorceress, and the power has been passed on ever since. *whew* Back to Amalthia...The sorceress lived in a small town in Alberisato. Unlike Malice, she enjoyed the simple life, and would use her powers to help the people of the town. But as with every story, something went wrong. The leader of the town was visited by a messenger from a powerful, foreign country, and was instructed to kill the sorceress in exchange for great financial rewards. The leader of the town was a greedy man and accepted the offer. He led a campaign against the sorceress and eventually convinced the town that she was evil, after which they killed her. This is where Malice comes in. Before the sorceress could rest, she needed to relinquish her power like the sorceress before her. Her spirit wandered the world, looking for a descendant of Hein. She found Malice. She appeared to him in a dream and convinced him to leave his home. She brought him to a sacred grove, and for two years, taught him the ways of the Sorceress Power. Now, the question is; why would Malice get the power if he's a boy? Weeellll...Malice could be said to be composed of "two spirits". By this I mean that he embodies both masculine and feminine properties. While his feminine side seems more dominant (hence his ...sexual preference), his masculine side shines through in battle. Malice was able to receive the Sorceress Power because of this. BACK TO THE STORY! So what happened to the town that betrayed Amalthia? Malice went back to avenge Amalthia. On the third anniversary of Malice's departure from home, he used his new-found power to destroy the town and turn all the residents into trees. He's not proud of this deed, but hey, thats what you get for betraying a sorceress.
And so, that is how Malice acquired his power. But there is more to come. How did his parents die? What has he discovered in his botanical studies? Answers coming soon! (Please comment, ask questions, point out plot holes. Thanks!)
