(Original speech is done in my LiveJournal ((NOT KID FRIENDLY, THAT'S WHY I'M POSTING THE ENTIRE EDITED SPEECH HERE!!!)))
SO GUYS. Talking to online and offline friends alike we all have something in common - "SUCHANDSUCH/I SAY WE'RE GOING TO DO SOMETHING BUT WE DON'T AND I HATE IT."
I've got a story to tell: Five-six years ago I was always the fastest thing you'd find, I always had things done, always had my bed made, everything was absolutely perfect--I was on top of the world and I looked life in the face and said, "Eff this noise, I'll show you who's boss!"
Because that was just it, whenever someone looked down at me and said, "You can't do it" I belted up and proved I could. Don't YOU tell me what I can and can't do, buddy, you don't even KNOW. Not a damn thing could stop me and no goal was too big!
Now? Things fly right past me and there are many days when I wake up and don't even make my bed. I find the bed-making thing important not because "oh my god, what will your friends think if they come over and see your BED untidy" but because of the self-discipline--the need and want to keep order and sticking with a plan. I know, that sounds retarded. I don't care.
Personally, it bothers me. The fact that I, too, tell myself "I'm going to do this" and then NEVER DO IT. And I bet you ALL of you have done something like that and probably do on a regular basis! Your reasons are all different--you forgot, you're scared, you don't really care that much, you're a procrastinator, work, school, boyfriend/girlfriend, the hobo down the street--ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.
So you know what? Why not do something about it? It's simple enough! Friggen’ DO the thing you said you were going to do! And when people talk you down and say "You can't do that!" you look at them and say "EFF YOU, WATCH ME." Let their negativity be the motivation for you!
Now maybe you aren't a procrastinator on a daily basis, but maybe you've been wanting to get involved in dance classes, a bank heist, write a novel, or painting lessons or join a chess club. You've been busy--FIND SOME TIME AND DO IT.
Scared? You have your reasons. What will people think of you? You know most people actually do NOT join a club or whathaveyou because they, too, are scared to do it? Funny how that works--WHO THE HECK CARES WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE, DO IT.
Projects piling up and you're getting stressed? Shake your fist to the imaginary antagonist beside you and say "EFF THIS NOISE, THIS CRAP'S GETTIN' DONE." and then DO IT!
I mean, what the heck is stopping all of us?! I understand we get sick and sometimes don't feel like it...but there's 365 days in a year, dammit. We've got time to do it at some point.
So basically the gist of this whole rant is I'm challenging myself and inviting others to do so, too. Every month pick one or a few goals and work towards kicking its ass. Success is if you've done one of the goals, and if you come out with none then shake your fist at the imaginary antagonist and say "I'M NOT DONE YET SIT TIGHT THIS IS GOIN' DOWN!"
The rules are simple:
1.) BE FEARLESS - NO GOAL TOO BIG, NOTHING TOO SCARY, NO CHANCE OF SAYING "NO".
2.) BE AWESOME - WHEN THINGS ARE GETTING ROUGH, SAY "EFF THIS NOISE!" AND GET ROUGH BACK!
3.) ELIMINATE "TRY" FROM YOUR VOCABULARY - YOU'RE MORE THAN LIKELY TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING IF YOU WRITE DOWN/SAY ALOUD "I'M DOING THIS" RATHER THAN "I'LL TRY TO DO THIS"
I'd suggest at least one of the following:
1.) Do something that's outside of your comfort zone - stuck up and listen to classical music all day? Listen to some rap--DON'T JUDGE, JUST EFFING DO IT AND APPRECIATE IT AS AN ART FORM.
2.) Try something new - whether it's in your comfort zone or not and DON'T take no for an answer, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO YOURSELF.
3.) Something you've pushed back for too long - I'm sure we all have at least ONE project hiding in the closet that we haven't touched but want to work on again.
4.) Something you've always DREAMED of doing - no matter the excuse, the only person who ever holds you back is yourself. TELL YOURSELF TO SHUT UP AND DO IT, FINALLY.
5.) If it interests you for even a split second, DO IT without further hesitation - especially if it is a "one time" experience - "Want to go on a helicopter ride?" say "YES, I'M SO THERE!" even if you're scared of heights.Like me, and I've gone PARASAILING AND HAD THE GREATEST TIME OF MY LIFE
6.) Something for the sake of saying "I did this, once" - I'm against me getting drunk and I'm not a fan of strippers. I willingly watched a stripper once (it was bad, I hated it) and will be willing to try getting drunk one night for one reason and one reason only: to have a story to tell, to tell the world I DID THIS, ONCE.
7.) Something that truly makes you feel good - 'nuff said. DO IT.
8.) Do something unnatural of you just because you're curious to see how people will react to it - guaranteed some good laughs. DO IT.
9.) Do something only because someone had the nerve to look at you and say "You'd never do this." Prove them WRONG, YOU'LL DO IT IF YOU WANT. - I've dyed my hair green once. Reason? I joked about it once and someone actually turned to me and said "LOL yeah right, you'd never dye your hair green." I should have bet money on it.
10.) Do something because it helps someone you care about - Doesn't matter what it is, if it helps them then that should be enough to make you happy and motivated to DO IT!
11.) When the opportunity arises, TRY IT! - I absolutely HATE when I show something to someone and they don't even glance at it and they tell me "not interested" IMMEDIATELY. AND HOW WOULD YOU KNOW? HAVE YOU TRIED IT? NO? THEN STFU AND TRY IT, YOU WET BLANKET. It's even equally aggravating when THEY show you something and then for some reason call you out on "never trying new experiences" themselves. WHAT?! LOOK AT THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK, YA?!
My own goals are simple, and even personal ones:
1.) Bring my blood pressure down. My diastolic bp was at 112, went down to 105, and it needs to drop to 80. I'M DOING THIS THING.
2.) Work on a comic script - WHICH ONE, BE SPECIFIC - uh...I started recently one with my character, Vincent, so I should probably plow on that while it's still fresh in my head.
3.) Draw my damn aliens, I need to get some character designs done.
4.) Get back into playing my alto sax, it's collecting dust in the corner! If not, at least the recorder!
5.) Learn to play the piano!
6.) PAINT SOMETHING. ANYTHING! With OIL paints!
7.) Draw a portrait of someone! I have a pic of Lady Gaga waiting to be worked on!
8.) I have things that need to be sent in the mail badly--DO IT THE MOMENT YOU HAVE THE DAMN MONEY FOR IT, ALREADY.
9.) Play with makeup and create new styles!
10.) Get up early and work out EVERY morning, even if you're sore!
11.) OWN THOSE DISHES EVERY DAY, YOU HAVE TIME TEN MINUTES IS MORE THAN ENOUGH.
I just wrote out a bunch of stuff on my mind, your lists don't have to be nearly as big.
THERE YOU GO. Success is at least one goal. Failure is non-existent, only interruption caused by the imaginary antagonist - be honest with yourself even if the truth hurts otherwise someone else WILL be. Anyone actually willing to do this I look forward to seeing your success upon kicking ass!
