There Will Be Brawl, the epic web mini series made by Mathew Mercer and Zach Grafton. Taking the characters of Super Smash Bros Brawl and spinning them into something like Sin City with a flavor of Watchmen in it. This ten episode mini series told the story of a dying city through Luigi's eyes, who has taken the role of a film noir PI. When Peach is kidnapped (again), Luigi hits the streets to find her while Mario is relearning the ropes of being a hero. Luigi's actions inspire former heroes to dust off their pants and get back into the fight as well. But it will not be easy, gang leaders and corrupt officers stand in their way. But even worse is the legacy of an evil cannibal threatens to return and plunge the city into fear and chaos once again.
I myself, thought the series was epic and incredibly well written. Who else has seen it? What's your favorite character and/or episode?

I followed that series throughout its initial air dates, and I have to say that it was really awesome. The mood was gritty, and though some of the effects were cheesy, the script was strong and the scenery was rich with Nintendo references. Favorite characters? Well, I liked Ike because he's Ike, and Yoshi because he's Yoshi, and Isaac from Golden Sun because... well... he's Isaac from Golden Sun. It's hard to pick just one favorite out of the bunch. The cast was pretty solid. The laughter of a single child...

YES!
Just when I thought nobody but myself and Mark has seen it. For a fanmade series they did a good job making these new personalities more believable for these characters. It actually made me like Luigi as much as I like Mario, he had this...Kyle Hyde thing going on about him as he made his way through the dark city.

My friend showed me it after the second episode. It's a really good series, especially for something 'fan-made'. The costumes are quite something and they do an incredible job of setting the mood. For those of you who don't know about it, go here to watch the episodes. There is no reason not to watch it. I agree, I think that they did a lot with the Luigi character. He made a good narrator and was an excellent 'flawed hero'. Of course, Mario himself was also quite something to watch on screen, with his violent tendencies... "DON'T CALL ME A PLUMBER! HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A PLUNGER IN THESE HANDS?!" But, being a fan of both Nintendo and 'dark' settings, this sort of series was right up my alley.

Changed the way I look at the timid man in green now, the actors weren't too terrible either. Hell, they got Kyle Herbet and Matthew Mercer in there, and they're professional voice actors too!
So Rutger and I can't be yelled at later: the web series is rated M, those watching take caution.

Oh, yeah, I probably should've mentioned it was M-rated... I think Matthew Mercier was the one behind the whole project to begin with. Wasn't he running things? I know the guy who played Wario was a professional voice actor as well - he did some stuff for Dragonball Z, if I recall correctly. The cast was quite impressive for a 'fan work' and I felt like, despite some of the effects, it was a pretty solid series. That Kirby was pretty nightmarish, though. I liked the whole Hannibal Lector spin they put on him - very creepy.

Matthew Mercer was one of the Co writers, but he acted as Ganondorf and did the voices for Meta Knight and Kirby.

Yeah, I remember him performing as Ganondorf. He did a REALLY good job in that part. It's really a shame that the series is done, because I quite liked it. If I keep talking to you about it I'm going to want to go watch it again; haven't seen it since the series finished back in March.

Such a shame indeed, but they were on a tight low budget. So it had to end at some point...
