Personality: A very calm man, Bastien is not easily intimidated. Having no known living family it can be hard to get under his skin. Disrupt too many plans of his at once and that calmness he usually has will unravel however; when he does snap, things can get scary for a short period of time as he'll lash out at nearly anything and anyone near him. It takes an awful lot to get him to that point though.
Bastien otherwise takes great pleasure in reading and learning, gathering information and when he's not in the middle of a job, will build his social circle. He loves to meet new people and can be a very charming fellow, kind enough to escort you home on a late night or even buy you a drink just because you're good friends. His job is his life unfortunately, so despite how nice of a man he is he occasionally does some odd or immoral things - not because he wants to, but because he was ordered to. Over the years he's managed to suppress most of the regretful feelings behind such actions.
Alignment: It appears to be neutral.
Equipment: He does carry around a notebook that seemingly never ends with information on people, places, things. Anything and everything. Page 84 has doodles that he did when he was bored one day.
Weapons: A 6' long blade, very thin and light. His movements are very fast and as such he doesn't deal with a lot of close-combat.
Magic: Another reason why he doesn't need a hefty blade, Bastien has an array of lightning attacks. They range from scorching people and burning forests to being able to paralyze an opponent for a short amount of time. Given the time he is able to summon massive lightning storms to completely wreck an area.
Flaws: Well, he really doesn't do a ton of his own dirty work so when he sends people on a job he has to be sure he can trust them.
Which he doesn't, really. He tends to stress himself out thinking people are after him half the time for some reason.

History:
Bastien doesn't honestly have the most interesting of a history. He grew up in Roccia, the largest kingdom in all of Allorum and spent a lot of his childhood outdoors despite what his pale face may tell. His father and himself were close, as was his mother. He was the second child in the family, his older sibling being his brother Benard. Both boys were similar in appearance, Benard being a little stockier than Bastien.
They lived a comfortable life inside of the main city of Roccia. Bastien grew up under the influence of his parents that knowledge was by far the most important thing anyone can have and as such, he studied everything he could. He watched people, he loved to observe them and learn everything he could about them. Something like this became incredibly useful when bullied in school, watching how his attackers did what they did, and it helped him be able to take advantage and turn the tables when he had the opportunity. Benard left home, got a job, Bastien and himself wrote to each other frequently. The parents got sick, the father died. Bastien took his mother away and they moved out of the city to the countryside where she healed from the sickness, but mysteriously died a few years later anyway. Many said it was because of a broken heart. Bastien himself was around twenty years old when this happened and, having told his brother of the news was offered a job with him.
The job was an interesting one. Certain people are selected, something to do with a specific strength they have. Bastien was picked by his brother Benard because of his skill for observing people and gathering information. Bastien was given orders from Benard, working underneath him while he worked underneath someone else, and that someone else worked underneath what they've all come to call "The Boss". No one knows who the boss is, the way the organization worked is that you simply follow orders from the one right above you. Only the very few people who work directly under The Boss itself know who he/she is...and they are sworn to secrecy.
For years Bastien worked under Benard, struggling at first to accept some of the missions he'd been given to do--one day they were destroying an orphanage for some unknown reason, the next they were stealing food from some rich man and giving it to the poor. Five years into the job however and one mission came about that took Benard's life, Bastien was ordered to find information on the whereabouts of one man, which he did. Benard gave Bastien the order to wait outside of the location of said man, the rest of Benard's goons went in and in minutes there was an explosion. A wild fight broke out between those who weren't injured or killed during the blast, and Bastien still has no clue what happened in that building that day. The man they'd been looking for disappeared again, and Bastien took his bloodied brother's corpse home to Roccia to bury.
Since then, Bastien has stayed working in the same job and has grown a hard shell for everything he faces. Currently he faces a couple of missions, those of which if he completes in ample amount of time will land him the promotion his brother never saw--being one of The Boss's men.
Sumata Arc:
Not part of this arc for very long haha. In his time here he met and gained the trust of a one Vincent Loque, whom of which was then hired to help him complete one of this aforementioned tasks to gain a promotion.
Despite Vincent being confused and almost very untrusting of what it was Bastien's job was apparently supposed to be, Bastien managed to convince Vincent that this was a very noble job that he does. Having gained his promotion, Bastien sets off now to continue his quest for fame and fortune himself, keeping in touch with Vincent for whatever odd jobs he may have for him as well as keeping himself open for anyone else who cares to join him.
