"I understand that," Vincent sighed, "but I just don't...I can't have anything happen to you. I can't, it's my job."
To bluntly put it...yeah. It was his job.

"And what did you tell Andy? And more importantly, what did he tell you?" Jasmine gave her father's hands a squeeze as warm as the smile she showed him.
"I'll be fine. He looks after me and I look after him. You worry too much, it almost reminds me of Andy sometimes," she couldn't help but giggle.

Great, he reminded her of Andy, too. Vincent recalled his meeting with Kevin back in Crepusculum by Hala's grave and what he had said out there as well.
"That's what I'm afraid of," he groaned and looked at Jasmine with a pleading look in his eyes, taking a deep breath before continuing, "honey, it's not that I don't trust your judgement on what kind of a person he is. He's probably a swell guy, it's just that...I...don't...think I like you spending so much time around him..."
Vincent looked at Jasmine and instantly he remembered the last time Andy was standing by her, his arm around her; whether Andy did it to be comforting or to just lead Jasmine away from him, it still boiled Vincent to think of it. Just the thought of him...touching her was enough to unsettle his nerves.
"I understand you have a job to do, Jasmine. I...I know I can't stop you from doing it, either. I do think you need to do it away from Andy, though."

Jasmine stared at Vincent with the most confused look in her eyes. Did he know how she felt? Was that why he was saying any of this at all?
"I can't leave Andy and I'm not going to. I already told you why, you're being silly."

Of course, she had to be stubborn. Vincent shook his head and tried to think of a better way to do this...
"What would you say if I told you that as your father, I expect you to fully respect me when I tell you that I no longer want to see you with him? Because I'm your father and that's what I say and that's how it's going to go."
There. Lay the power down.

So much for taking command, Vincent. It may have worked in the military but it certainly wasn't going to work in the family. Jasmine's eyes narrowed and she pulled away from Vincent entirely.
"I'd say that we're just heading right back to square one and that this conversation is over," Jasmine backed up a few steps, "I'll be leaving, Papa. I have to get back."

Uhoh. He was losing her. And rather than try to apologize and deal with this in a calmer way, Vincent decided to keep pushing with his authoritative front.
"You're not going anywhere, young lady. Now get back here this instant!"
Bravo, Vincent.

Jasmine threw her hands down to her sides, balling them into fists. In response, she rolled her eyes at Vincent and turned on her heel, marching her way out of the forest without a single word.

And there she went. Vincent's eyes widened, his words had no affect on her at all. What kind of a man didn't have control over his own daughter?! What would people think of him? He could already see the guys pointing at him and saying, 'Haha, look at Loque, can't even keep control of his own teenage daughter. Such a pansy...'
And Vincent wasn't a pansy, no way. He bolted after Jasmine as she walked away and grabbed her by the arm, pulling her back a few steps.
"Whoa whoa whoa!! I said stay, not turn your back on me!" he spat loudly.

Jasmine hadn't really expected him to grab her like that. She'd let out a startled cry when he did it, but quickly turned back to him with a hard glare and replied to him with just as stern of a voice as he spoke to her with, matching his volume.
"And I said I'm leaving! Papa, let go!" Jasmine snapped back at Vincent, trying to pull her arm free of his grasp. This was stupid.

"Jasmine, you don't understand. I have nothing really against the people you know, it's just I'm afraid of...well, I'm afraid of that boy doing something to you. Look at you already, you don't listen to anything I tell you and you were such an obedient girl, or that was what your mother had said," Vincent tried to calm himself down a bit, though as Jasmine fought with him he tightened his hold on her.

Jasmine let out a frustrated yell as she continued to fight with Vincent, though she couldn't break free from him and it was beginning to hurt.
"Was such an obedient girl!? If Mother were still around, I'd listen to her. I've no reason to listen to you! You were around long enough to just start a family and then lie to us, tear up Mother's life and heart, and then show up years later and act like this is supposed to be okay and we're supposed to just accept it. I don't even know who you are and you want me to obey you like I'm some stupid puppy dog!! I'm more inclined to call Mr. Uruhane my father, he's been there all the time and knows me better than you ever could!"
She shouted, she pulled some more, she wanted to leave. How did this get blown out of proportion again?

OUCH. How was Vincent supposed to respond to this? He couldn't.
Or, rather, couldn't respond to it well. Jasmine said what she said, Vincent said nothing back but rather released her arm.
And then half a second later backhanded her across the face, with enough force that would easily send the small-framed girl spiralling to the ground.
And half a second after he did that? He realized he screwed up. Again. Yet he had no words other than one.
"Jasmine..." his voice was drained of all anger, it was full of hurt, of guilt...

Jasmine let out a loud cry in pain as she was hit. She fell to the ground, her left cheek throbbing, burning in pain. Did he actually just do that?! She stayed where she was on the ground for a long moment, almost as though she were afraid to move. Most of it was her frozen in shock, however. She breathed heavily, her hand shaking as she rested it against her cheek.
Jasmine sat up, a couple of tears leaking from her eyes as she looked up at her father. Where Vincent simply couldn't find words to say to her, Jasmine had plenty. She said nothing to him, however, as far as she was convinced she was done with him.

Vincent stepped forward, looking over his daughter. The overwhelming feeling of guilt felt like it was twisting his heart, and at the same time he was horribly surprised with his own actions.
"Jasmine," he spoke, voice quavering, and he reached out to her.
