Jasmine shook her head violently at Vincent and sprang backwards to avoid him. Wiping away at her wet face, she stumbled to her feet.
What was she supposed to do? She wanted to run away, that would have been the logical thing to do. Leave him, let him be like that. On the other hand, it was still her father...and where he did and said things to hurt her, she realized she did the same to him, too...
Jasmine bit her lip and stared ahead at Vincent, a bit of a glare in her eye.

Vincent couldn't do anything else, he felt. He cringed as his daughter backed away from him, and now realized that chasing her wasn't going to do any good for either of them.
"I screwed this up again," he choked, "tell it to me like that. I'm not the father I should be."
He opened his arms slightly as he spoke, but did nothing more than that.

She frowned. Sounded more like he was wallowing in his own self-pity, but again Jasmine remembered her harsh words only not too long ago. It reminded her of only not too long ago when she had been sitting in the kitchen with her mother, having one of their usual 'talks'...
"...your father has tried very hard for all of us, and I know he's horribly aggravating," Hala gave a knowing smile as she took a seat at the table, "he's not a perfect man. He is a man, and he has trouble trying to admit his own feelings at times. His temper is quick and sometimes that blinds him from seeing a more suitable solution to a problem...but do try to be good to him. I doubt you'll be able to see him in the same light I do, Jasmine, but try to remember that he's got to learn a lot about you as you do about him."
For a moment, it appeared Jasmine had forgotten about that. She took a shaky breath in, trying to hold in more of her own tears as she stepped forward and into Vincent's open arms, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist.
"....not a bad father," through her muffled mumbling into his shirt, at least this could be heard, "...you just don't understand..."

Vincent breathed deeply while hugging Jasmine tightly back, his hand gently caressing the spot on her cheek that he had hit.
"I'm sorry," he said, "I'm sorry...tell me what I have to do to fix this. I'll do what's right, just tell me what..."

"...Trust me."
There was no better way to say it. She knew what she had to do, she knew it since the moment her mother sent her out of the house. It forced her to make some tough decisions, and Jasmine knew she hadn't seen even the worst of it yet. But when it came, all she needed from her father was not any lecturing or demands, but faith in what she would decide to do.
"Trust I'm going to decide to do the right thing on my own, Papa. Sometimes I'll make a mistake but when I do, you know I'll...I'll come to you."

Vincent ran his fingers through Jasmine's hair as he responded, "You're so much like your mother. So much..."
He didn't know exactly what he wanted to say. He, of course, was worried. He was always worried about her. But at the same time, she spoke so confidently and she was...she was...
Well, she was grown up. Or at least almost there. A grown woman had to be able to make her own decisions and control her own life, afterall. Pick her own battles, pick her own friends, her own man...
"If anything happens, I don't care how petty it seems," Vincent's hug tightened only a moment, "you know I'll always help you. Always. Don't let it sink in your head that I'm busy or have enough of my own troubles."

Jasmine nodded.
"I promise, okay? But you have to promise, too..." she let a few tears fall before she let go and backed away, "I love you, Papa. You know I do."
It was so weird to say, even if it was the truth. It was hard to imagine because when she was three years old, she wouldn't have remembered even if she did say that to him. But she knew then she loved him more than anything in the world, and even now though she knew very little about the man there was that unconditional love...
It seemed like Hala's death was changing the lives of everyone, indirectly or not.
"I have to go now, though. I've been training, and it's important that I work hard at this. Y-you have to take care of yourself, too."

"Of course," Vincent stood still as Jasmine turned to leave, "I will. I love you, remember, don't let anything happen..."
He smiled at her as she left. So much like her mother...
'Hala, I wish you could see our daughter...she'd make you so proud...'
It was time to get back to work, though. Jasmine was working to help her friends and Andy, and Vincent had to work even harder than that to help everyone.
"My next stop is Unda," he muttered to himself as he moved to gather his things. He'd depart for the land of water by morning.
**END OF THREAD NOW Y/N!?!?**
