Alexander blinked.
"I forgot we even had one of those...great idea, D! Hey, lady!" Alexander ran down one of the aisles of books, finding the librarian quite easily (she was already looking for him after his crazy outburst moments ago).
Alexander quickly explained his need to seek out the history of Santo-Luce, the librarian a little confused by the king's strange request (she wasn't used to seeing the boy near a book, afterall). He turned his head in Alex's direction before she set off to help find the information.
"Hey, D. What can she help you find in here?" he asked.

"I dunno... but I never know till I ask, right? I'm probably going to look for light magic, and... rage magic, if there is such a thing. Probably just look up the 'magic' section and browse. Also... look for the name, Mara. It means something, I know it."

"My my," the middle-aged librarian woman said as she lead them down an aisle of books, "history, light magic, rage magic, Mara...you boys are doing an awful lot of studying...especially you, your highness." The last part of that sentence was filled with a reprimanding tone, directed at Alexander. He merely responded with a shy smile and a shrug as she took them both throughout the library.
In minutes, she'd managed to pull ten different books off of the shelves, and even pointed out the sections in which they could find other books they may have been needing.
"Might I remind you two that despite this being King Frexton's castle, I do expect you both to be quiet in here," she said once she was sure the two men were settled with their books, "but do ask if you need anything else. I pulled books on basic light magic out for you, Captain Alex, as well as a few on dark magic in case you can't find your 'rage magic' in our books. Though to be honest, our library doesn't have the most unbiased choices...as for Mara, I can keep looking but would you have any clue what it is?"

"It... she's..."
A cold cruel laugh, coming from a woman with a voluptuous figure, her face still shrouded in shadow. He felt the twisting pain of the spell reach deep inside him, changing him, altering him... he felt it reach deep inside his soul in a way that felt sickening and pleasurable at the same time, painful and wonderful, and touch the sick emotions that lay within him... betrayal, rage, sadness, hurt... she touched them and twisted them. The spell whispered in his mind of the things he would do to the woman who betrayed him, the man who had enslaved her, and he screamed at last as the spell finished with his soul and worked with his body, drawing out two, pristine wings, and then two more, forging purpose within him and binding his loyalty to that laugh...
He shuddered slightly. "Mara... a sorceress of evil power. I... I can't remember any more..." The last words were a tortured mumble and he turned to the books that werein front of him, trying to banish the memory that had returned to him.

The librarian's eyebrows rose as she listened to Alex. She then nodded and smiled politely.
"Evil power...I'm afraid that if you're looking for something entirely in depth, you may not find it here. I can search further, but you may want to look in a place that is not as...as I said, biased, is all," the librarian answered as she gave Alexander an odd look; he'd picked up one of the thick books and began to flip through it upside down.
"I don't understand this..." he said as she took the book and flipped it around on him.
"You're reading it upside down, sir," she answered with a shake of her head. In response, he shook his head back at her.
"No no, not that! I mean I don't get why it's saying Nerezza started war back like, a bajillion years ago but refuses to tell me how or why..."

Alex shook his head. "Cultural bias," he said disgustedly. "I can't believe I used to buy into this stuff... can't believe half of me still does, really. I get the whole darkness-light thing but... geez, all this is nonsense. I never bothered to learn the history or anything... and you'd think a library of the light would definitely have information on minions of darkness, if only so that people could know how to fight th..."
He shot upwardsand grabbed a book sitting right in front of him, written in an odd and ancient scrawl, sandwiched between two larger books and covered in dust. "Alexander," he said, startled enough that he didn't even use a formal title, "I can read this script, and... it's... if I'm right..."
He started flipping pages excitedly, smiling.
"It's a codex on hunting vampires... and claims to know the story of how the war started."

Alexander blinked for a moment as Alex flipped ecstatically through the book's pages. The librarian looked rather impressed herself. They both moved to look over Alex's shoulders, even if neither of them could read the book themselves.
"Good going, D! And my dad always said you'd turn out to be useless," he grinned broadly as he gave Alex a pat on the back, then suddenly raising an eyebrow and frowning, "....wait, actually I think he said that about me..."
He shook his head and turned his full attention to the situation at hand.
"The war, and how it started, you say? And what about vampires? What's this book gotta say, D?!" Alexander couldn't hide his own excitement very well, either.

Alex smiled and cleared his throat.
"For Nerezza is the land of demons and traitors, that when we all settled in the dark lands to bring light to their depths, and worked hard in a land that had no light to grow crops and barely enough to see by, in order to make their lives easier, they made deals with the devils who ruled it's inner darknesses. We fled from the demons, declared the land unfit to live in, but they stayed, for they had been seduced by the evil the darkness represented, and toiled away under the ungodly hands of their evil mistresses... aye, mistresses, for the demons were ruled by women, a sign of their corruption, for only men have a place at the head of a kingdom.
Beware their true Mistress, though... A flash of color across a dark night... a step so soft you may never have heard it... those are the signs of her coming. You will never see her unless she wishes to be seen; you will never hear her unless she wishes to be heard. Her greatest strength is her invisibility. To fight her at nighttime is suicide; to strike her during daytime is folly. She will never be tamed, and even to the wariest of hunters, she is death itself. She is the Lady of the Night, Queen of all Vampires. Beware her, young hunter... her power of seduction is as deadly as her power to kill, and many a war has been fought trying to win the lands back from her spawn."
He shook his head. "It just goes on that way."

Alexander had invited himself to a seat while Alex read out from the strange book. It sounded nearly like the other book he had just tried reading a moment ago, Nerezza is full of traitors and demons, making pacts with the devil and blahblahblah...yet one thing about the book actually caught his attention.
"Vampires?" he said, tilting his head to the side and blinking, "I didn't know anything about Nerezza and vampires...and vampires living out there.
He then looked at the book, with its odd and unfamiliar text. Alexander had been studying an ancient language himself for some time, however it was of Santo-Luce origin. It was whichever language the gods of the light had decided to use (or so he'd been told) and for some reason the Frexton family decided that this was important to know. This book was different, though.
Alexander then looked from the book to Alex, a bit of a quizzical look on his face. The book spewing out the same old thing that the other did was one thing, but there was something else...
"D? Do you have any idea how you're able to read any of this?" he asked slowly, and quietly.

"I don't know," he said, confused. He searched his returning memory for answers, but the only things he got were the memories of a dusty library, filled with books in all kinds of languages, and reading them, devouring the knowledge eagerly. "I dont' even know what it is. It's just... it feels like I've always been able to read it, like... I don't know. My memory... it won't tell me anything..."
He sounded frustrated, puzzled, and slightly scared. How many strange abilities did he have that he didn't know about?

Alexander blinked at his friend. He hated seeing the guy struggle like that, especially with things he couldn't remember. He had to change the subject or...something, fast.
"So...." he started, staring about the room for a moment before his eyes met the librarian's. He then grinned.
"Do you have any other books in freaky languages? D, maybe you can read them, too!! Let's learn about vampires!" he exclaimed excitedly as he leapt from his chair and tore through one of the aisles. The librarian shook her head frustratedly.
"It's good to see you eager to learn now, sire, but I think you're missing the point at hand...I can find you more books if you'd like, but I don't know if 'vampires' should be your boys' subject to seek out..."

Alex gave her an odd look. "Why not? After all, it seems like the vampires had something to do with the ancint hatred, the ancient war. Isn't it your duty as a keeper of boks to learn all you can? To banish lies, predjudice, and hatred? To promote tolerance and understanding? What if we have uncovered a truth buried within the lost millenia of hatred? Wouldn't it be your job to assist us in any way?"
He sounded noble and upstanding, a bastion of truth in a land of mysteries, and the angelic wings unfolded slightly as he stood to his fullest height, the book still held open in his hand... indeed, he looked and felt like an angel of old.

The woman shook her head at Alex and let out a disapproving sigh as she answered, "It's not that, it's just I'd be afraid for you boys to go searching for something and wind up in trouble--it'll come straight back to me, you know."
Alexander peered from around the corner, having been listening to their conversation even after he'd run off. He raised an eyebrow, feeling like their help from the librarian would be minimal even if he agreed to not tear up the books and actually read them. He strode out casually to the both of them, staring down the librarian arrogantly.
"The king of Santo-Luce does not cause trouble, he seeks truth," Alexander shot his fist up in the air dramatically before placing both hands loosely in his pockets, "but seriously? Maybe we'll take our business somewhere else, somewhere where knowledge is unbiased and plentiful. Somewhere like...um....uh........huh..."
OKAY, so maybe he didn't have a clue about the world he lived in...well, at least when it came to books and libraries and other objects and places that Alexander avoided the past decade, claiming he was 'allergic' to them.

Alex thought for a moment. "Well... it's said that the two largest libraries in the world are in Nerezza and..."
His eyes widened and he suddenly smacked his forehead. "I'm an idiot!" he shouted.

Alexander blinked.
"Uh...D? I know I'm not nearly as bright as you are, but I'm pretty sure 'I'm An Idiot' isn't a place..."
Aside from that, he didn't like the idea of Nerezza. Big library or not...
