He sat on the banks of the river supposedly formed from Angels' tears and thought back on the events that transpired on Earth. The memories, still incomplete, that flooded his mind were like painful shards ofglass trying to come together and make up the harmless weave of his true memory. He'd forgotten so much.
His coat was back in his rooms at the castle, revealing the wings he'd once considered an irremovable curse stretching out behind him, a symbol of the mystery of his past. He'd remembered that they were but a symbol of his true power, as well, impermanent... but he felt more comfortable wearing them as he'd had for the past two years. They weren't a burden lifted when they were dismissed, simply another mystery. Fragments of a life he'd once had on Earth tormented him, always with that strange girl, Miri... who had she been to him? And... why had he done what he'd done? He saw in his mind the moment where he'd taken his weapon against her, but nothing else. He could feel a whisper in his memory's ear from a familiar voice that he couldn't quite recall or put a face to, although something inside him told him that this was the Mara Miri had spoken of... but who was she?
A cold castle room, so unlike the Solar Castle. He knelt to the floor. The voice above him spoke a command.
"Yes, my lady... I obey."
His memory came unbidden, but was gone before he could examine it further. Sighing, he stretched out on the banks of the river, trying to ignore the tears that had streaked down his face. He closed his eyes, trying to either dispel or recapture the thread of memory...

"You're pretty down, too, huh?"
The voice spoke softly, and would be easily recognized as King Alexander's. He approached Alex slowly and invited himself to sit beside him, smiling empathetically at him.
"When I walk around the castle, I see bright and shining faces of people who are more than eager to serve me regardless of how I treat them. I try to treat everyone very well though, because I feel that the more welcome they feel, the better they will work, and the happier we will all be...but it saddens me to see that look on your face, D. When I see it, I think I've done something wrong, so I sincerely apologize as your king, and friend."

Alex looked up at his king, the man he'd follow to the gate of Hell and back, if he was asked, and shook his head.
"No... milord, it isn't your fault at all... none of it is..."
He'd slipped back into Earth slang and informality, something he'd done quit often but never knew why.
"I just... there's things I don't understand. Like, how I came to be here in Crepusculum if I really am from the other side... and I wish I knew more about myself, as well. Every truth I thought I knew about myself is a lie... and all I have are a few names and strange powers I halfway understand to make sense of it all."
He shrugged, so conscious now of the wings he'd accepted a long time ago as a part of him, a truth of life. He folded the feathered pair around himself like a cloak, but the chill he felt wasn't from any outside breeze.

Alexander nodded slowly as he listened.
"Sounds like you and I are both confused with ourselves, and are in need of answers. Though, not everything you know about yourself is a lie," Alexander started his answer off with a warm smile, "you know you are a good, loyal person, and an even better friend."

He shook his head. "I'm not even sure of that anymore... I mean, I betrayed the best and only friend I had three years ago, and for what? I don't even remember."
He sighed. "If only there were somewhere I could find out about this power I have, and the person who gave it to me..."

"If anything, it's like you've been given the chance to start again. Granted, with consequences such as memory loss, but this could give you the chance to stretch in a different direction, should you find that where you were headed before wasn't desirable in any way to you," Alexander answered. He sat in silence for another long moment, watching over the creek, shimmering beautifully in the sun's light.
"Actually," he finally started again, quietly, "this power you speak of...is it a type of light magic, or at least its origin? I was just getting ready to head into the castle library to do a little reading on Santo-Luce's history, and get more acquainted with...well, all the things Dad always told me I had to know but was too stupid to take it seriously. Things are getting ugly and I have to...you know, 'take the wheel' so to speak...my 'ship' and all. Perhaps you'd find an answer or two yourself if you accompany? I promise not to hit on some guy's girlfriend and get the crap kicked out of me again."
He even crossed his heart to show he meant business.

Alex laughed. "Alright... You're on for that one, friend." He tried the word out - it was the first time he'd ever called the other Alex something other than a formal title. "Is it okay if I use that? I dunno... I guess that time back on Earth gave me a disliking for formalities." He shrugged. "Anyway, I... I know I'm adept in light magic, and that whoever did this to me took that light magic and changed it somehow... all I know is that my magic works more effectively the angrier I am and the more hatred I hold."
He sighed. "Not exactly the greatest power, huh?"

Alexander's smile remained as he stood, giving Alex a pat on the back as he did so.
"It is fine as long as you truly consider me your friend, that is," he chuckled slightly, "now come. We have a bit of a journey ahead of ourselves, self-fulfilling ones by the sounds of it. The power you speak of sounds great, though a little off--I'd never think that light magic would actually work by means of hatred and anger. It just doesn't feel...right, you know? Especially when people think that light magic revolves around healing and protecting the world by the will of our gods..."
He shrugged, turning and starting his walk back to the castle. He stared up at the sky and stretched his arms out of his sides widely.
"And what about our gods, anyway? What about Nerezza's gods, too? Do they hate each other? Dad always talked about going to war with the darkness, and he spoke so bitterly of those coming from Nerezza. Granted, they're all strange people, I don't see how they can possibly live in nothing but darkness because nothing grows out there. The beach out there probably isn't as great, either. But what I want to know is why do Nerezza and Santo-Luce hate each other so much, but are expected to help each other to help Trucido? Why should two countries who've been sworn enemies for years actually aid each other? If there's a good reason for us to work together, then why are we still fighting each other? What's the reason for all the bitterness to begin with, then?!"
And on and on the young man blabbed. Funny enough, contrary to popular belief, he was very thoughtful when he was serious about what he was doing. A rare occurrence, indeed, but now was one of those rare times.

Alex smiled. "I'm not sure what I do actually is light magic anymore... but I'm sure that when the time comes, I'll find out. As for Nerezza and Santo-Luce... maybe that's something worth researching, too. If there's one thing I remember about Earth, it's that old hatreds are sometimes the biggest problems tht come from the stupidest things..."
It kind of infuriated him that he could remember current events and common history from Earth better than he could his own life

Alexander nodded in agreement as they neared the castle.
"Only too true, D, which is why I'm kind of curious to find out what started this all to begin with. It's bad enough that I'm helping a man who appears to be strongly looked down upon by many, I'd rather try to eliminate as many problems as I can--whether there's a silly reason why Nerezza and Santo-Luce became enemies or not, perhaps we can at least find a way to set that aside after...what, centuries? Longer than I've been around, anyway. It sure would be nice to have some allies, though. Right now, I feel like all I have are enemies," Alexander said with a sad sigh.

Alex nodded. "I know how that feels," he said, and meant it. In light of what he'd learned about himself, he'd had no idea where he stood in relationship to the rest of the worlds. The Heroes he shared an origin with hated him for the simple reason that he'd been siding with the enemies. And the Sumata... he'd never liked most of them, and the fact that he now knew he didn't even share a homeworld with them just widened the gap. He didn't trust any of them, whether because of ingrained hatreds or just plain bad feelings, and he didn't even know who he was... so it was hard to find an ally in that mess. Still, he stayed loyal to Alexander through it all, and the king had returned the favor.
"Still... at least we each know we always have one ally." He smiled.

There were no better words to describe the grateful look on Alexander's face as his captain replied. It was like all the bad things that had happened in the past week had suddenly been washed away, even if it was a temporary relief, it felt good.
"Of course. And sometimes, I'd prefer to have only the one ally to begin with. A real honest, trustworthy one that I know I can depend on always..." Alexander's face suddenly turned very pale and grim as he kicked open the large library doors, his voice echoing along the massive walls, "though it'd be nice to sit back and be reassured that we're covered if Queen Milicia of Crepusculum suddenly storms into my kingdom and kills everyone! It'd be nice to have some support in numbers! TRUCIDO!!!"
As he paraded into the library he'd waved his hands angrily around before slamming them hard onto a desk. A couple of servants had peered in from the hallway, blinking for only half a moment and then deciding they should get out of the scene just in case, turning on their heels and rushing down the hall. General Brahl was only feet away from the door even when he heard the young king's outburst, a smug grin clearly showing on his face as he stared into the room.
'It appears the boy is stressed. Bradley, your son is useless when he is in command. It's alright, though...at least there are a few of us in this castle who have a firm idea of what they're doing. We'll take good care of him for you...' he thought to himself, striding slowly past the library and nodding politely at the men as he moved by.

Alex just laughed softly to himself ad shook his head... by now, he was used to his lord's little mood swings, although this one was pretty impressive. He simply twitched hsi wings (which still unnerved the heck out of the staff) and followed.

Alexander, once settled, turned back to Alex with a tired look on his face.
"I'm sorry. I guess I've just been a little angry recently, is all...hopefully things will go better, soon," he said as he started to pick away at a few books on one of the shelves.
"So...where to look first? I'll help you find your answers if you help me find mine...because I really don't know how to use one of these library things on my own..."

Alex laughed. "Sure, I'll help you find the information. Most of the time, books are categorized by author, but..." He shook his head. "Honestly, I'd get lost in such a big one myself... so why don't we ask the librarian to help both of us poor, confused souls?"
