Lana blinked and let her shoulders drop. She hadn't meant to really startle the guy.
Wait...yes, she did.
But seeing how he reacted somehow made her feel like a jerk, and in such a way that she almost felt bad for doing it. So she quickly dropped it and ushered the both of them along, hoping to finish this little 'quest' of his soon.
"I uh...uh...hmmm...yeah, sorry 'bout that," she mumbled, "just making sure you're not pulling the wool over my eyes and all...don't take too kindly to people like that..."

He kind of felt bad for making her feel bad like that, although a little voice in the back of his mind told him she deserved it.

"I...hmm....Whatever!" Lana suddenly blurted. She then stopped and shook her head - she just had herself another outburst for no apparent reason.
Growling frustratedly, she mumbled another, "Argh, I'm...sorry."
She had no clue why, but she was actually trying to keep her anger in check. Something about the guy seeing her get angry at something was almost embarrassing at points (because she was quite known to freak over...anything, really), that and she seemed to scare him half of the time she flipped her lid...and that strangely made her feel kind of bad.
She looked ahead. They were getting close, coming up to a forested area by the mountains. A strange figure glowed just ahead, forming the shape of some kind of cat-looking creature. It sat, fuzzy, majestically, and grinned at them.
Lana on the other hand swore loudly, quickly grabbing Kouichi by the robe's collar and throwing him to the ground behind her. She lunged at the cat, it made an odd, high-pitched meowing sound and leaped at her.
This cute kitty then managed to latch onto Lana's leg and bite savagely into it. She beat it senseless in the head with her fist, eventually knocking it off and as it was dazed for a second Lana quickly grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and shot it up into the sky, bringing her inujured leg around and then punting the cat off into the distance with a painful squeal.
"Effing cat, stupid piece of...effing..." Lana's colourful vocabulary leaked through as she started walking with a slight limp. She walked back to Kouichi to see if he needed help getting up and said, "Hate those stupid things. They'll kill you - let them bite you, they have poisonous teeth, those rotten pieces of..."
And the grumbling continued.

"Didn't it bite you, though?"
He sounded concerned, having stood back while the cat was beaten by Lana. Still, he unsheathed his naginata and stood on guard.

Lana blinked when Kouichi pointed out the small fact that yes, that cat with the poisonous teeth did just bite Lana. She looked down at her leg, seeing the part where the teeth were latched on swell a little already and shrugged.
"Huh, I guess it did bite me, didn't it?" she said calmly, still looking at it, "...oh well, there's nothing I can do about that. Come on, let's get going."
And with that, the limping continued towards the forest. It's not like Lana was willingly trying to die, she just always had the idea that if you could do something to stop your fate, then you had to try.
Lana couldn't heal poison. Therefore...wow, she had to admit, she had a pretty messed up belief system. Maybe she would get somebody to look after this thing later.
Suddenly around them she heard a low growling sound. Stopping, she quickly stole a glance around at the area, noting not one, not two...hell, it was more than fifteen sets of glowing eyes peering through the darkness at them. Each was accompanied with a threatening growl and each cat beast they belonged to stepped out towards her and Kouichi, baring teeth and ready to kill.
It had appeared that Lana just did away with the one cat she really shouldn't have bothered with, and now the whole pack was out to get them.
"Dammit!" Lana snarled as she drew her longsword, "this just keeps getting better, doesn't it?!"

Kouichi leveled the nagi, taking a defensive stance beside Lana. "Is there anything else I should know about them before I charge in and attack?"
He really was not looking forward to fighting these things.

"Not really," Lana shrugged and then leaped into battle, "just that it ****in' hurts when they bite!!"
And with that last sentence, she mightily swung her sword down at three of the fuzzy beasts and sliced them in half--sliced them good!

Kouichi nodded, running at one and spearing it with his naginata, then spinning around, simultaneously pulling free of the corpse and slashing two other creatures.

One of the cats flew high over Kouichi's head. Lana laughed and gave another one a sharp kick to the face and sent it spiraling to the ground as she whirled around and gracefully brought the blade of her sword across the face of yet another beast.
It was like a dance she had practiced and knew each step to - after the attack of the first cat, she never let another one touch her as she added more and more of them to her bloody pile.
"What's that? You didn't get me that time!? No, of course you didn't!" she shouted at them, slashing wildly away, "you effing things! Get outta my way!!!"

Kouichi smiled at her antics - reminded him a little bit of Takuya's infamous fighting spirit. He stabbed toward another cat... yet, still, they just kept coming.

"Rarrrgghhhhh!!!!"
One more leaped at Lana and she swung her sword like a bat at it. The area showered with blood, and where she really didn't like the feel of it she could have cared less at the moment as four more leaped simultaneously at her. She swung around and managed to kick two away while the others leaped on her and clawed at her back.

Kouici was also getting swarmed.
"There's just too many... where'd they all come from?" It was all he could do to keep them away from the both of them, fending them off wih quick swipes of the shortsword-like blade on the end of his nagi.

"From the land of 'Please Kick Our Ass'! That's where!!" Lana was oddly calm now, even though she had to wrestle off some of the beasts that clawed and tore away at her skin.
She got up and the moment the kitty cat got up to its feet to attack, she punted that one away too and swung attacked the others who were surrounding her. She let out a yell as she stormed into a large crowd of cats that just showed up, disappearing into the wave of black fur, glowing eyes, and hideous 'meows'. One by one, bodies of each creature flew up and out of the gathering until suddenly the cat-flinging stopped.

Kouichi saw Lana stop fighting... and raged. He knew she'd never stop fighting until she dropped, and something about her dropping, dying, getting hurt made him angry. She'd never get her second chance. He wanted to save her. He closed his eyes, felt the nearness of what he was searching for, and pulled.
A glowing object appeared in front of him, lighting up the night, and he almost recognized it... almost. Something about it pulled at his soul, and he reached out and grabbed it,f elt it's power absorb into him... and then... he changed.
In Kouichi's place, empowered by the spirit of darkness he'd just absorbed, stood a very angry-looking, very large, armored black lion. It growled, roared, then waded into the pack of cats, attacking.

((IF THIS ISN'T LANA'S ACCOUNT I'M GOING TO BE RAGE-FILLED. And if it ISN'T Lana's? JUST PRETEND IT IS.))
High-pitched 'meows', angry growls, and hissing filled the air as each cat that surrounded Lana was knocked away, knocked down, and seemed to disappear.
Huddled in the middle of the pack was Lana, weaponless (having lost it in the mess), curled up with her head down low and her arms covering it, shielding her face and eyes from the deadly claws and teeth of the beasts that ganged up on her. Her arms and back bled all over, and she leaped forward at one of the creatures the moment she felt the opening. She grabbed it by the neck and threw it behind her, turning and seeing at that moment the armoured lion coming through the crowd.
Her eyes widened. "What the bloody **** is that?!" she yelled, having nothing to fight with but her own fists and feet at the moment, but that was okay because Lana wasn't scared of anything bigger than her - no way, not even a giant cat kicking the smaller ones...
Wait, it was fighting the others? She took a step back and batted away any of the other monsters that attacked her, keeping her eyes on the giant lion that was...kicking some serious ass!
