Jasmine frowned.
"Grandmother...Andy is my friend," she spoke up and rubbed the side of her head. She was surprised she actually didn't remember Annabelle--she was certainly eccentric enough for anyone to never forget her.
And yet the more they talked with her the more she could clearly see her mother's traits in her. So much like Hala...it was kind of scary.

Annabelle stared at Andy and then looked at Jasmine. And then she stared at Jasmine before looking back at Andy. And then she looked back at Jasmine again.
"....Friends?!" she spat at Jasmine and then gave an incredulous look to Andy, "travelling partner?! What the hell kind of place do you think this is, boy? This is Crepusculum, not the world's biggest brothel! Jasmine, you know how your mother raised you--this is Vincent's fault! His influence is ruining my family!"
Clearly, she didn't understand this.
"You travel together?! You...you two practically live together, what is this? Where is Vincent, this is his idea, isn't it? When I get ahold of him...yet, my naive granddaughter, I do think I can see what you see..." and with that, she approached Andy and squinted up at him.
"Such a stern face you have, and look at your shoulders! You don't look too old at all, you are still a child yourself but with such muscle! Oh, what a grand warrior you'll be--dare I say you might make a good husband yourself, look at those arms!" despite him holding his sword yet, she wasn't afraid to reach out and grab Andy's arm and squeeze it as she spoke.

Andy jumped back a bit in surprise, he wasn't sure if he was mad or annoyed at her outburst.
"Vincent proposing the idea of this? As if..." he mumbled.

"Such a snippy young man, too. Granddaughter, how do you deal with a man as mouthy as him? Come here, boy," Annabelle gave Andy's arm a swift yank, spinning him around for a moment so she could poke at his back, "such built-up muscle in here, too. He's very strong. And look at those cheeks! My goodness, you're every bit of the man that Vincent isn't--I'm sure at least you will do better in the reproductive area."
She refrained from giving Andy's bum a slap but she gave Jasmine an overly excited look as she called out to her, "Granddaughter! I'll say you have fine taste, just tell me that this is your mate!"

No words. None. Jasmine stared on, face as red as a tomato as her grandmother moved on to attack Andy and his body.
"H-he...isn't...c-can we do this somewhere else?!"

Not only was Andy throughly embarrassed, he was very mad too. His body went stiff and he walked away from Jas's grandma's reach and walked away saying through clenched teeth.
"When you're finished talking Jasmine let me know."

Something about the way he spoke almost scared Jasmine. It was thankful that she had spent enough time with Andy to know he wouldn't hurt her, but still, what was to come after...this almost made her worry.
...Actually, she then started wondering which could be worse...somehow Andy being a little grouchy didn't seem so bad compared to a...whatever you had to describe Annabelle as a grandmother.
"Of course," she answered Andy quietly, "I'll come find you."
And the moment he was gone, she balled her fists and wheeled around to Annabelle with a scowl.
"Look what you did! Now you've gone and made him mad!" she snapped, "don't touch him again, he doesn't like that!"

Annabelle laughed and clapped her hands together again. She was having only too much fun with them.
"Let him be angry, granddaughter! I'll teach you how to put him in a better mood much later," Annabelle cackled away for another moment or so before she (finally) settled down. She coughed, and then gave Jasmine a grave look.
"Now on to a more serious matter, child. I've done a lot of travelling in the past few years and have heard and seen a great many of things. War is raging, things are getting worse, my daughter is dead, your father that useless lying sack of a man if you can call him one is alive, and I've heard rumors recently that 'the Loque girl has become part of the army'. Other sources of mine also say you've tuned into a great power, one you are very much unaware of but desperately need to be....does this sound familiar at all to you?"

Jasmine's eye twitched. Did this just never end?!
"You won't...you...you're just like Mother!!" was all Jasmine could spit out angrily at Annabelle.
She crossed her arms and listened to Annabelle when she actually decided to get serious, though. As soon as she finished Jasmine looked at her and responded with a simple nod and a, "I've been working closely with Andy and the others from Earth. And the prophet at the top of the Shade Mountain tells me that we...we can communicate with the dead..."
She bit her lip, hating this thought. Why couldn't dead things just stay dead?

"Heeheeheeeheeee, where do you think your mother learned it from, granddaughter?" Annabelle giggled as she pulled back her hood, revealing her long white hair.
"As for the dead...of course," she pointed at Jasmine's hand, "you made a pact with the gods, didn't you? You can't lie to me, foolish girl. And now you're seeing things, aren't you? Things that the normal eye doesn't see, things that would make you appear crazy if you started walking around telling everyone about them."

Jasmine frowned as she looked at her hand. She remembered when she first carved the eye-like shape into it; she'd done it because she'd read in her spellbook that it would create a direct connection to the gods and ultimately grant her more powers and abilities. She'd been told then that some of the things she picked up she may not like, but such was the dealing of the gods of the Twilight kingdom.
"I did," she responded, staring down at the eye, "...I told Miss Profeta about an incident that happened on Earth. I...she told me I managed to channel the spirit of my mother..."

Annabelle shook her head at Jasmine.
"You did no such thing. Your mother was the one who initiated that connection while you were away from the planet of Crepusculum," Annabelle's eyes narrowed, "now, granddaughter, where would you have gotten the idea of carving that little symbol into your hand like that to begin with? Surely Hala never did. I know she didn't. Before you learn what it is that happened and what is going to happen to you, you must first answer my questions truthfully. From there, we can do something about it."

"I...it came from a book, actually. I was bedridden awhile back with a terrible curse and Andy left to find the cure for me, along with our other friend Kara, and Papa. I read so much while they were away, and found in my spellbook this symbol and I read that it would grant me a direct connection to the gods, to tap into their powers and borrow them to help create a stronger being of myself. I did it to help my friends...I was told by the gods themselves that I'd be blessed with the white magic I sought so much but would have to accept the black because it is twilight magic, a divine mixture of both the light and dark..."
Jasmine recalled it all very well. She knew what she was told, and in order to be granted any abilities like she had been, she had to accept both the white and black magic that the gods used.
"But what does this have to do with Mother? How could she have done something like...like take control of my body from beyond the grave?"

"I see. So you know of the details of accepting magic from the gods, but are unaware of the fine danger along with it," Annabelle shook her head again, "the symbol on your hand acts as what we shall call, a wide open door. Through that door, yes, you can connect to the gods and they will do in their power absolutely what they can to help you succeed should you show only the most spiritual devotion to them."
Annabelle's lip curled when she continued.
"But what you never kept in mind is that where this 'door' on your hand is easily used for you to connect with the gods, a supernatural higher power, you also act as a door to the supernatural world as a whole. And just like a normal door that someone carelessly left wide open to their house, some will walk past because that home does not belong to them...while others will invade and take what they can. Do you follow? You are the home, with the door open. The dead, their spirits, wander the world and some of them in search of an escape--you."
She took Jasmine's hand and stared down at it as she continued, "Your body is their only hope of making it back to the living world, granddaughter. While you've opened yourself to the gods, you've also, sadly, opened yourself to everything that wanders this world. And you can see them in a second sight, like you would see things moving out of the corner of your eye. Many people will devote themselves to the gods of the Twilight, but so very few know of the circumstances like this that they all usually die," she gripped Jasmine's hand, "that is why I search for you. Your mother was too weak and did not know a thing about this, but you are young, full of potential and have stumbled upon it--if you do not learn how to protect yourself and take control of your mind and body, surely there will come a time when a dark-willed spirit will take over you and you will forever lose yourself, your identity...never to be recovered. Until then, your mother has followed you and kept a very watchful eye on you but she can only do so much."

.....
Was she serious?
"S-so I'm...why can't dead things just stay...you know...dead?" that was all Jasmine could really say about this. Dead people were walking around trying to take over her body. Great. Every teenage girl's dream.
"So what am I supposed to do, Grandmother? I don't know a thing about this..."
