Hala raised her eyebrows at Kara and then grinned. "Ahhh, little Miss Kara, you have some sleuthing skills. Perhaps I'll keep you here a little longer and have you examine all the treasures in my house, tell me where my husband has been," she laughed.

"Wow, you're pretty smart at this stuff," Andy remarked, grinning at her. Kevin nodded in agreement before speaking up.
"I'm sure the long lost princess knows about the kingdom more than any of us do," Kevin spoke.

Kara blushed and curtseyed to hide it. "Thank you all for the kind comments. I only know as much as my mentors taught so the credit is not mine."

"But you remember what you were taught, Kara, and that's what is most important--you can apply it to the world around us now, right?" Jasmine said as she gave Kara a cheerful pat on the hand and looked back up at her mother, "you never told me anything like this about papa before."
To this, Hala raised an eyebrow and responded, "I never had to, you never asked. Now, my little Miss Kara, would you be able to guess where in this world my Vincent came from? He was a taller man, built for the army, lovely dark grey eyes with blond hair that I'm sure he must have tampered with, and tanned skin. His nose was a little longer, his chin and most of his face had a bit more of a 'square' shape to it."
She didn't really expect Kara to know, but she was rather curious.

Kara looked up with a puzzled and contemplative look. "That sounds like your typical Ignis man. All except for the hair, they normally have very dark hair colors. My father and uncle and cousin did. But he could have easily also had Roccia backround."

Hala laughed again. "Indeed, he was from Ignis, which is why I say he must have tampered with his hair somehow. He always insisted that it was real, though, that silly man. He could have been telling the truth though, his mother was of an unknown origin."
She stared down again at the knife on the table before she gently reached in and picked it back up, carefully placing it back in its box, a frown coming to her face.
"I remember so much about him, even after thirteen years...excuse me..." and Hala walked out of the room quietly. There was an uncomfortable silence for a moment or so before Jasmine spoke up with the hopes of breaking it, "Hey...Andy? What's it like in Cal...ifornia...?"

Andy watched Hala walk out of the room, when Jasmine asked him what his home was like he thought about it before answering, "It's...sunny. Warm, sometimes comfortably warm, sometimes unbearable. I lived a lot of my life on the streets, picking fights with gangs, stealing only when I got hungry. I lived my life... um..."
"Recklessly?" Kevin finished for him.
"Um, yeah that." Andy nodded.

"It is warm and unbearable at times..." Jasmine repeated, carefully taking in everything he said, but then she tilted her head and with a curious expression she continued, "...but why did you live on the streets? What about parents of your own?"
She couldn't imagine living her life like that. She had had her mother, and they had their garden that if they didn't look after, they'd have no food. It intrigued her, listening about this 'reckless' life that Andy lived back on Earth.

Andy was silent for awhile before he spoke up. "I don't have any parents, I was abandoned as a baby."
He paused for a second and continued, "There was a plane... erm, an accident, and my parents were killed. I was sent to a foster care for awhile until I ran away when I was 13, I've been taking care of myself ever since."

Jasmine frowned as he spoke. She almost regretted asking him to begin with, but yet he had still answered her, so perhaps it was okay...?
"Oh...I'm sorry, Andy. I didn't mean to bring up any hurtful memories," she answered quietly, not really being able to find something else to say. For some reason she was developing the urge to walk up and give him a big hug, but there were people around watching and that was unnerving...and it was a stupid idea to begin with. She shook her head and stared at the table.

"Don't be," Andy tapped his foot in midair, "I barely knew them. I don't have enough memories of them to feel sad. I have other ones though."
Andy frowned as he recalled that awful fire, Trisha... I couldn't save you...

"Ah...w-well, I'm sorry I might bring up the other bad memories, then!" Jasmine stammered, she really didn't know what to say, let alone how to say it, "like the other parents you had, o-or running away..."
She stood up suddenly, feeling like she had to get up and move around a bit. She was also feeling a little guilty, despite him telling her not to worry, and she wandered to the other side of the room trying to avoid his gaze, at least for a short period of time.

All this family talk made her so depressed, no matter how much she tried to perk up. With a sigh she stood up and walked towards the door. "I'm going to get some air..."

"Kara I-"
"Leave her be," Kevin interrupted, "Kara needs some time to herself, let her be on her own for a bit... I'm sure she has a lot to think about."

Jasmine bit her lip and called out, "Ah! I'm sorry, Kara! Andy!" and instantly set herself to work cleaning up whatever dishes she could take from the table at the moment. It almost seemed the busier she kept herself the more it kept her guilt at bay.
Hala stepped back into the room and took a quick look around, frowning as she did so. "I leave for one minute and when I return, everyone's looking glum. Did you all miss me that much, or what?"
