Vincent blinked as Yeligar walked past him.
"....Yeah? Well, I can create explosions and fire at will," he spoke, half pretending to brag.

"Yea yea." He said as he looked at him, "Once I can control the wind, I will blow out your fires." He grinned, "Race ya back to the Loques!" He then started to run.

This was something totally unexpected. Vincent hesitated again a moment, a little stunned at his superior's incredibly childlike nature, but all the more welcoming it and broke out in a run after him, hoping to beat him.
"S-she's still 'Fraus' right now! It's kinda creepy to refer to her as Hala...Loque..."

"Well, she is going to be Loque soon, I am just trying to get use to the idea of the name change." He said as he looked behind him, "Looks like I am going to win!"

"It's still a scary thought, though..." Vincent ran as fast as he could, but even still he was having a few difficulties catching up with Yeligar. He grinned however as he drew his sword and stabbed it into the ground.
"Haha! Not for long, you're not!" he yelled as the ground began to swell in a long, narrow line right between Yeligar's feet, an explosion of fire, rock, and dirt flew everywhere just barely three feet ahead of him. Vincent burst forward and attempted to use the distraction as a way to pull ahead of Yeligar.

"You sly bastard!" He laughed as he ran past the crater, and followed Vincent.

A few happily-lived years passed. Hala married Vincent and Yeligar was always welcome to their home. Everyone was like a big happy family together, even as Vincent and Hala Loque began their own with their daughter, Jasmine. Despite spats here and there, difficulties and struggles to be had, everyone was happy. Everything had been perfect.
Hala said goodbye to Vincent on a regular basis, he left to complete missions and assist Yeligar in every way he could as it involved seawork of sorts. She always looked forward to his return, nearly leaping into his arms at times when he'd been gone for weeks or months.
It was because of that that probably made it all the more surprising the one night things changed, like someone had taken a perfectly laid-out table for dinner and turned it upside down once everything was sitting on it.
It'd started out so normal, no different. She said goodbye again to Vincent before he left on a job, he spoiled Jasmine with attention before leaving out the door. He wasn't due back for another week, tonight was a night that Hala sat after putting Jasmine to bed reading to herself to pass the time before she too went to sleep for the night.

Yeligar stood there, in some fancy armor. It had a dark gray color, and no marks on it, obliviously something he wore for important matter. He had one small sword, but his lance wasn't with him. He sighed and then he gave a light tap on the door. He knew that lil' Jasmine would be asleep, in her bed.

Hala looked up from her book and stared at the door. It was a little late for visitors, though perhaps it was someone looking for help. Slipping her bookmark in place Hala set the novel to the side as she got up and first peered through a small slit in the curtains on the window. There was one figure there, a familiar one standing on the porch.
Hala opened the door and blinked up confusedly at Yeligar. She already knew that seeing as how he was here so late meant it had to be important, but all the same she looked at him with a polite smile, completely ignorant to any negative thoughts.
"Yeligar? What are you up to at this time of the night? I'd have thought you boys would be long away from here and sleeping by now."

"Hello, Hala." He said to her, then he rubbed the back of his head. "Can come in?"

"Of course," Hala answered, stepping aside to allow Yeligar entry to her home. She closed the door and stepped around to the table in the middle of the room and said, "I'm sorry, I don't have tea made or anything. Would you like a drink at all? I can get some made if you'd like."

"No, no." He said as he walked in. He stood and he rubbed his hands. "Hala, Vincent... was killed on the line of duty." He rubbed his head. "I wanted to tell you personally."

What Yeligar said didn't quite click in Hala's head right away. She heard the words "Vincent" and "killed", but she never fully registered at first that Vincent was dead. Instead she looked at him quizzically, tilting her head to the side as she stopped where she was in the kitchen.
"...I don't...what? What do you mean?" she blinked, "I'm waiting for him to come home, when he's done with his job."

Yeligar sighed, "He was killed in a ship explosion, and it is all my fault." He then started to tell what happened:
Yeligar stood there looking at a map of the shore of Unda. A rebel force was attacking Crepusculum's southern border, and they had a few ships surrounded. It was rumored that they had a list of the ones behind the attack, and also an itinerary of supplies. They needed that list and need it now. "Ok, Sokan, Kash, Ruumod, and Cyess. I want you to take a small boat, and go onto the green ship. In the captain's quarters, the list should be there." Yeligar said as he pointed it there. "It is on fire, so you need to go now." Vincent walked up to the one named Ruumod, and said, "Jack, let me take your spot." "Vincent, I need you here." He said, "Yea, Vinny, listen to the Warlord." Jack said, as he put on his quiver. "No, Jack. I know they killed all of your family, but if you go on this mission, and get distracted, then you may risk the mission and everyone else that goes on the mission." Vincent said, "So, save revenge for another day." "...Yes sir." He said. "Alright, but you have 5 minutes at best. That ship has lots of cannon, so there is a lot of gun powder." Yeligar said. Vincent, along with the other men, hopped into the row boat, and oared over to the burning ship. In about 3 minutes, the men didn't return, and it exploded! All of the men ran to the side of the ship, and Yeligar looked around for their row boat. A soldier finally spotted the small row boat coming towards them. Yeligar counted, and there was only 2 men in the boat. One held the scroll, and both were covered in soot. One of the field mages cast a light water spell to wash them off, and they were Sokan, and Cyess. "Where is Kash and Loque?" Yeligar asked, Sokan cleared his voice, and said, "Kash was stabbed in the back by a dying soldier. Vincent, grabbed the scroll, and he ran towards us, but a bunch of wood fell between us. He couldn't get around it, and he threw us the scroll. We tried but he said complete the mission, and order us to return the ship. We did, just in time. I am sorry sir, but he is dead."
"...And that is what happened. I already talked to Kash's family, and now, I am telling you. It is harder for me to tell you about this." He then pulled out a small bag. "There are 100 gold coins in here, and I will help you in any way I can."

There it was again, the use of "Vincent" and "dead" in the same sentence as Yeligar explained the whole story to her. Despite his detailed account of the situation, Hala didn't hear nearly anything he said, his words became muffled as her own thoughts spoke to her loud and clear. If what Yeligar was saying was true, Vincent wasn't coming home. It would mean she'd never again wake up to see him there by her side or wait outside to greet him when he came home, that special smile he gave her would be gone, as well as the way he held her in his arms.
Hala pulled away from Yeligar, her face showing her every bit of disbelief for everything he was saying to her.
"T-this isn't funny. You and Vincent are terrible for playing games like this, Yeligar, I'd have thought at least you would use your head. When is he really coming home?" Hala squeaked, reality sinking in but yet she fought with everything she had and held onto the idea that this was some kind of cruel joke.
